Get a Google Cardboard instead. GearVR and Cardboard are almost exactly the same thing, all GearVR has is a touchpad on the side.

Oculus PC SDK 0.7.0.0 Beta is out:
https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/pc/0.7.0.0-beta/Oculus_Runtime_for_Windows/
The most significant change is the addition of the Direct Driver Mode and the removal of Extended Mode.
Direct Driver Mode uses features of NVIDIA Gameworks VR or AMD LiquidVR to render directly to the HMD. If the installed GPU does not support NVIDIA Gameworks VR or AMD LiquidVR, it uses Oculus Direct Mode.
The removal of the legacy Extended Mode means that users can no longer manage the Oculus Rift as an extended monitor, which will affect some games. Additionally, Standalone Mode (which uses the Oculus Rift as the only display device) is no longer supported.
This release also improves alignment between the PC and Mobile SDKs and reduces the surface area of the PC SDK.
The real Vive launch is also in Q1 2016.

So much for that huge "getting to market first" head start.
vive will never release
vive will never release
valve can't count to three dees
Shame, was gonna buy a vive but now probably gonna go rift and just buy the controllers separately.
vive got hit by valve time. It's hardware though, which is harder then software, joke but no joke.
If you read an article on cnet, Valve was rather preparing for a 2016 release while HTC was pushing for this year.
While Valve initially projected a commercial launch in 2016, HTC's leadership pushed the release to late 2015
http://www.cnet.com/news/virtual-reality-may-rule-video-games-heres-who-will-rule-vr/
Doesn't this just mean the first batch will be limited in quantity, but still available to consumers? Similar to the controllers?
“I mean, we’re kind of working on a sequel, so it’d be stupid to the raise the price. It’s early days. We’re looking at having more VR stuff in it - that’s the big point of it. And it won’t be called Garry’s Mod 2.”
VR in Garry’s Mod. I’ll let that sink in for a second.
Planetary Annihilation devs will have a Vive demo of said game at PAX:

Tom's Hardware made a comprehensive list of VR HMDs, very useful for folks that haven't been following developments on the foot: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/virtual-reality-headset-comprehensive-list,29907.html

So a better looking janusVR?
So a better looking janusVR?
Janus is a misguided experiment
It focuses on trying to be 3D web browsing but that's obviously not so great
Vive game called Nimbus Knights:

So it's a game where you throw poor helpless knights into the abyss.
Ban this sick filth.

Man the VR news just keeps on rolling. And things aren't going to get any slower with Oculus Connect around the corner.
