So explain that to me. Is that a scene created from some sort of photography or laser scanning? Why do they look so realistic?
There's a pretty in depth explanation of it here http://www.theastronauts.com/2014/03/visual-revolution-vanishing-ethan-carter/

So it's going to be a full game lol. It was made at one of the first Vive Jams this summer. You can see the controller models are of the Vive's.
Tried the Vive today at EGX. The bastards only had Elite Dangerous on demo, so it was really rather disappointing.
Tried the Vive today at EGX. The bastards only had Elite Dangerous on demo, so it was really rather disappointing.
How's ED disappointing in VR at all? I've tried it with a DK2 and it's fantastic, especially if you get up close to a planet or enter an asteroid field.
Guessing Beacon wanted to try out the hand tracking which E:D doesn't utilize
"Oh, that may just have been a clock" :v:
Guessing Beacon wanted to try out the hand tracking which E:D doesn't utilize
and of course, room-scale tracking
and of course, room-scale tracking
weeeellllll depending on the ship he was piloting, that might not have been so, some of them do have cockpits as large as a big-ass room. Although this being a convention it probably just had the default ship, which has a pretty tiny cockpit.
Tried the Vive today at EGX. The bastards only had Elite Dangerous on demo, so it was really rather disappointing.
But how was the Vive besides that?

So I haven't kept up with the Rift in years, and I'm just starting to think about it now. I see that the consumer version hasn't been released but is scheduled for Q1 2016. Exciting! The headset that comes with it also looks awesome. Because I don't really have a great headset for games, I'm definitely going to use it. And the touch controller looks fucking amazing. I can't wait to use it. But--how much does the new consumer Rift cost with all of its accessories? And how much will the touch controller cost? I remember that the old price point was $350, but it must have gone up by now, I assume. Does anyone know these things yet?
Just seeing these videos, the amount of opportunity behind VR, I really don't think people are prepared for how big it's going to explode

I mean, I saw a video of a VR amusement park the other day, was pretty cool. Instead of describing it I'll just find it, but I'm sure it's been posted here before. This isn't it exactly, but this is the park that was in the video. The video I saw showed more behind the scenes and was a guy doing it, they had all kinds of tricks for immersion like infared lamps to simulate the heat of torches, there was a part with an elevator where you step on this platform, use the control panel, and the panel would move down away from your hand and the floor would shake and jitter so it feels like you actually move up, the guy was saying people freak out and call out and ask "Are you guys up here with me?" but they're really on the ground the whole time :v: [editline]27th September 2015[/editline] BITCH broke my automerge [editline]27th September 2015[/editline] Just imagine, today we're already reaching this stuff. In 20 years this technology will be retarded advanced

Would I need to get STEM if I have the Oculus touch controller? What do you guys think will be better? The STEM system? Or the Touch?
Would I need to get STEM if I have the Oculus touch controller? What do you guys think will be better? The STEM system? Or the Touch?
Probably Touch due to the outside in camera tracking combined with the really neat ergonomics. I wonder if lighthouse or dual touch oculus camera will have better tracking fidelity/
Lighthouse has better fidelity at a distance; Constellation is limited by pixels that lose precision the further away you get. Plus the Vive comes with controllers and Lighthouse will most likely be more supportive of custom/third party peripherals.
Would I need to get STEM if I have the Oculus touch controller? What do you guys think will be better? The STEM system? Or the Touch?
At this point, STEM really isn't worth considering tbh. Every Vive set comes with its own controllers and my guess is Touch will reach more Rift users than Stem could ever hope to, consequently, hardly anybody will develop for stem or even try to support it. Plus, It looks to me like Oculus's system has the benefit of a much more flexible tracking arrangement. That part might not actually be true, I have never set up either system before.
Is the Vive better than the Rift? I just want to focus on one VR headset to buy, so I'd like to know which one is better. I think, from a review I read, that I'm leaning towards the Rift.

Oculus hasn't released the specs on the CV, so we don't really have anything to compare yet.

The only thing Vive has going for it over the Rift is a superior tracking system, which may or not be of interest to the consumer depending on how well room-tracking is perceived. The Rift has way better corporate backing and that's super exciting. There's already a huge abundance of third party supporting applications being tailored for the Rift so it's a sure sign that if you go with the Rift you won't be left high and dry. We still don't really know what Valve is going to do with the Vive since there's nothing but a couple demos. There's a planned event mid-October but we still don't know when or where.
How's ED disappointing in VR at all? I've tried it with a DK2 and it's fantastic, especially if you get up close to a planet or enter an asteroid field.
I've already played it with my DK2, so it was much less impressive.
Guessing Beacon wanted to try out the hand tracking which E:D doesn't utilize
Yup, I was expecting the usual demos like aperture/secret shop/job sim, etc. I couldn't wait to try the controllers and room scale VR. Massive disappointment.
weeeellllll depending on the ship he was piloting, that might not have been so, some of them do have cockpits as large as a big-ass room.
But how was the Vive besides that?
Hard to say because there was virtually no demonstration of its features. Only two lighthouses, seated experience, no controllers, the game is dark which is bad to demo VR anyway, and it was such a limited experience. That said, the headset was light and comfortable, the display was certainly improved over the DK2 (though there was still a pretty obvious screen-door effect and the HUD text was still not exactly clear). Stupid bloody frontier games
welp im setting my bets on the Vive, the wands / controllers look stunning and rpresent your " hands " fairly well from what i could see

someone forwarded me this article https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/3mmfb3/i_just_demoed_the_htc_vive_and_thought_id_share/ tl;dr the dude played 90's giant CRT-in-a-helmet arcade games twice in the past and says the FOV in the oculus is too tight. I'd be impressed if he paid attention to FOV and responsiveness at all back in the day and it wasn't just nostalgia vision getting in the way beyond the odd start, he talks about his experience with the vive and is super stoked for it based on the demos he went through. If he's THAT critical of the oculus's DKs, I'm pretty excited to test a vive out for myself
