[sp]I assume you didn't finish the Paz sidemission then.[/sp] (Paz's sidemission ending spoils) [sp]No she doesn't, Venom Snake is just hallucinating that alternate timeline where he DID think of that, and saved her[/sp]

[sp]I don't think so. Pretty sure that part was made up, I think all the teeth and bone that was inside his body were likely hers[/sp]

I looked it up on YouTube and yeah I did see that, I just didn't know what the fuck to make of it :v:
There's something i dislike with the ranking system in this game.
I dislike how the main factor towards S rank is time. Which makes rushing towards your objective and avoiding everything the best method to S rank anything.
I also dislike how you get punished for killing people. And don't play me the song of "but it's a stealth game" when the said game labels itself as "tactical espionage action" and features a shitload of weapons, including heavy machine guns and shotguns out of the wazoo.
I just did WHERE DO THE BEES SLEEP? in S RANK / FOXHOUND and it was the most boring experience i ever had in this game. There's something wrong in being able to avoid everything from point A to point B, like you're going to buy bread to the nearest shop, complete the mission, and get rewarded for it. Woop da fucking doo you managed to get from here to here with your horse, here, take your S RANK.

It feels amazing in Chaos Theory, but in MGS it's boring.

stop caring about the ranking system and just play the way that's fun for you, you dork!
stop caring about the ranking system and just play the way that's fun for you, you dork!
You're aware to "fully" complete the game and get some specific rewards you need to complete the game with everything S ranked, right ?
I wish i could stop caring, but there's some clear advantages and goals to get S rank over the rest. Rewards are one of them, huge ass GMP boost too.
I think I've done missions that have taken me like, 45 minutes to even an hour, killed people and still S ranked so idk man
Yeah, no. S Rank is defined purely by points, and time only gives you so many points.
The ranking system works the same as Hotline Miami. There's a certain amount needed for Rank A, you do anything under that and you get progressively worse ranks. Do a certain amount above (probably two to three times the amount) and you get Rank S.
It's not like Platinum Games and most Japanese Beat 'Em Ups where in order to get a S rank you actually need to perform certain tasks like never getting hit along with playing fast and well.
I've had more than half of main missions S ranked on my first playtrough just by playing naturally (non-lethal and undetected) and rushing towards objectives only when I had nothing else to do.

...But you're not punished for killing people. Counts as a neutralization, same as tranqing them.
The only way you're 'punished' for it is not being able to recruit them to Mother Base, which is another thing entirely, because it stands to reason that they can't work for you when they're dead.
...But you're not punished for killing people.
You are. Less GMP at the end and to get some end game rewards you need to clean every mission with perfect stealth, no kills.
Ideally, the game should have end game rewards for both ultra sneaky playstyle, hybrid playstyle, and full rambo playstyles. But it's not the case.

Well yeah, because that's more difficult.
Well yeah, because that's more difficult.
Not really, no. It's way harder most of the time to straight eliminate a guard without alerting his friends, hiding is body, and repeat the process inside an entire base, than just avoiding them completely with help of the sneaking suit and calling it a day.

Only figures there'd be a reward for people who put in the extra effort.
it's also been a staple for all metal gears.

So far the game proved me the exact opposite. Ramboing took me twice if not more the amount of time to complete the mission, ten times the amount of used ressources, and was ten times harder thanks to the amount of ennemy forces being sent. I will see in higher difficulties.
I'm at mission 40 but is the rest of the game disappointing in terms of story?

Well no shit, running through everything and just shooting everyone with guns is the easiest way to do any mission so of course it gives you a lower score.

the thing I see being constantly repeated in the thread is that no one LISTENS TO THE TAPES
when it comes to non end-game related questions, everything is clearly explained in the tapes - [sp]even the reason for quiet to fuck up that one dudes teeth so hard, and how to stop the infection - it's all in the tapes, answers are hamfisted almost as hard as sutherland's "i'm you" in the prologue[/sp]
[editline]11th September 2015[/editline]
honestly all the tapes except for [sp]codetalker's - he's talking in such an awful accent it's not even funny especially considering the subjects and lenghts of some of his tapes[/sp] are enjoyable to listen to, and explain a lot
[sp]huey is a bitch version of gendo[/sp]
Damn right, can confirm.
[sp]Code Talker[/sp] talks so damn slow I just end up fast-forwarding through all his tapes.
[sp]Code Talker[/sp] talks so damn slow I just end up fast-forwarding through all his tapes.
It's like listening to your grandad.
Also, I felt like I was in school hearing him, except everything he's saying is wrong.
Oh wait I guess there isn't much difference.
do you get your staff back later on? i lost 200+ people, i should have shuffled them around before hand to get some research done
HOLY SHIT

I loved the original version of this in Ground Zeroes and my friend pointed out this track could have been intended for the return to [sp]Camp Omega[/sp].
Is there any GMP gain on redoing missions?
[sp]I just finished Quiet's mission. Are there any prerequisites for some other missions to become available or 50 is the limit?[/sp]
the number on the rightmost column of the mission list is base gmp gain, it goes down after you do it a bunch of times
If my wife ever wants kids some day I'll just make her play this game

You gain GMP but at a decreasing rate every time. If the number is blue for the GMP reward next to the mission title it means it has decreased.
I just finished the game. In terms of actual gameplay, it was great. However, i still think that it's definitely the worst MGS game in terms of story, and the open world itself is completely lifeless and empty. The ending [sp] ruins Big Boss completely, as well as the parts of the game itself and the rest of the series. It makes little sense and there are so many unexplained things, not just with Venom Snake not really being Big Boss either. [/sp]
