you MONSTER
Was I the only one that...
[sp]Feels really disappointed with MGS V? Most of the missions were "extract X" or "locate and kill Y", and there was no real character development throughout the game, and what little there was had been too spaced out.[/sp]
There are no female soldiers, only female prisoners.
Female soldiers would only be on your base.

Operation: Cherchez la femme is a bust :(
(THEORY AND HUGE SPOILERS)
[sp]Big Boss, Kaz, and Ocelot were working for Zero the whole time, because Zero offered them something they couldn't refuse:
The opportunity to take revenge on Skullface.
So, they turn the Medic into a body double of BB, after a not really coma, then put him in command of Diamond Dogs, with the objective to take their revenge on Skull Face for sinking the now four's dreams to the bottom of the ocean 9 years ago, all while zero lays in his bed and cackles maniacally.
The true ending happens as normal, with BB revealing that Venom isnt actually BB, and then many years pass, during which Big Boss works his way back into the leadership position of the FOXHOUND Unit, Venom builds Outer Heaven behind zero's back, and he recieves the same 'parasite therapy' that Quiet recieved to reconstruct her body after Ishmael burned her, so as to repair his shrapnel wounds and remove his horn.
The year is now 1995. Big Boss sends Gray Fox to meet up with Venom in preparation for the beginning of his final revenge against Zero. His first move is an attempt at killing Liquid and Solid, the clones Zero created in his image. He closely collaborates with Venom throughout the entire mission, whilist also commanding solid. However, Big Boss's mission is a failure, and Snake finally kills 'big boss' in Outer Heaven. However, he is infact killing Venom.
After which, the real Big Boss is forced to go into hiding and make his last stand at Zanzibar Land, with the rest of the series happening as we know it from this point on.
Also, at some point during all this Kaz and Code Talker slip away from Outer Heaven and turn over a new leaf, founding "Mc Donnell's", and American fast food chain specializing in hamburgers. They collaborate with some of the best scientists from the R&D group at Outer Heaven to create the "Paunch Burger", the true 'Ultimate Hamburger'[/sp]
Uh about the people you listed (massive end-game spoilers)
[sp]Kaz didn't know that he wasn't the real Big Boss at least that's how they portrayed it. Once he found out about it he instantly hated Big Boss big time and vowed to have Venom and the clones be better than BB.[/sp]

[sp]Gameplaywise, I'm very satisfied- it has just the right amount of customization and entertainment that I expected when playing peace walker and hoping for more. Storywise, there's a lot to be desired, and I really wish things turned out differently than they had. Overall, it's a damn fine game, but for the last MGS game it's kinda sad we're ending off like this. The series really should have ended at MGS4, I'd say, but it's too late for that now.[/sp]
Does anyone have a list of all the weapons with built in supressors?
There are no female soldiers, only female prisoners.

So if I wanted to staff MB with women, I'd just have to redo the five-ish missions with female prisoners like 400 times?
Oops, I didn't realize how large of a blast radius the mortar has and knocked one of my guys into the ocean during an FOB.

Massive spoilers: [Sp]I figured that big boss manipulates kaz, and medic, not only to push himself into hiding but rather create a pf system that could willingly take on cipher and co. By remaining quiet in the background for nine years and coming out, he effectively makes a gigantic fighting force with capability to strike anywhere, ala the US carriers. In doing so he sets himself up for the final war with cipher, zero already being in his side. [/Sp]

That's how I'm currently feeling, and I'm just about to do the last 2 missions.
[sp]I went into the game expecting a grand, fun, and crazy plot like Kojima's other MGS games, but so far, it's just been like you described. "Extract this, follow that, etc." with some key story cutscenes spliced in between. I get that Kojima wanted MGS V to feel more like a TV drama than an actual movie, but doing the same things over and over while showing the credits after every mission is just draining. So far, it's not nearly as dramatic as the trailers painted it to be.[/sp]
[sp]It's a very mechanically sound game, don't get me wrong. It just seems like Kojima didn't care too much about the story in this one compared to the others so far. I'm not seeing the big downward spiral of Big Boss yet like it was said we were going to see. If anything, I feel more like Big Boss is the actual hero so far with Solid Snake later coming in to fuck things up because of reasons. Maybe there's a big payoff in the end that will blow my fucking mind, but with only 2 missions left, I'm not expecting much honestly.[/sp]
so can we get a compilation of good helicopter songs
I'm using Jimi Hendrix's national anthem but I feel like I could do better
so can we get a compilation of good helicopter songs

I'm using nasheed for Afghanistan music and 'gangsta rap (nigga nigga nigga)' for Africa
In short, MGSV does the complete opposite of MGS4 by having the gameplay be in the forefront, while sacrificing story to do so- whether or not this was intentional on Kojima's part, I dunno, but I have a feeling this is a yes (due to how many people complaining about MGS4's huge amount of cutscenes). As a whole, while MGSV is a better game, MGS4 is a better metal gear solid game, and I can deal with that.
(this is in reference to the above spoiler posts by Rahu and Falstad, by the way, just didn't feel the need to spoilertag this)
Maybe Kojima made 5 this way because of all the backlash MGS4 got

I feel like the time constraints are what really caused all this. Especially the fact that konamis president was pissed about it taking so long. The game itself gives off a unfinished vibe in certain parts, and others feel rushed a bit

Oh god, I think I got Jackal's brother killed.
I KEEP LETTING THE JACKALS DIE!

Fuck Diamond Dogs, I'm now Jade Jackals
So uh, I just unlocked Mission 46 somehow despite not unlocking 45.

This was definitely a factor too, no doubt- despite all the money poured into the Fox Engine and this game, Kojima really wanted to make a masterpiece with this one, and Konami really didn't feel like helping him out with that. Both sides are kinda shitty (Konami for rushing Kojima, Kojima for spending a fuckton of money), but Konami really went full nuclear with this one.

I mean, it's happened before, just look at MGS2- people absolutely hated that game thanks to him taking Snake out of the limelight and having a supernatural filled plot, so he had every main character after that be Snake (despite him really being called Big Boss) and MGS4 explained away a lot of the magic that 2 introduced (MGSV SPOILS) [sp]which he carried on into V by using parasites to explain away the Cobra Unit[/sp]. He really wants to make fans happy, so this was his way of appeasing those he pissed off in 4.
im infiltrating a base and have seen no guards but have seen 6 decoys

Definitely sound mechanically, though there are a few little things here and there that would really irk me (Seriously Boss, you can't get up that 15 degree slope?), and there are a few times where my fingers are in a knot on the PC.

[sp]I never really thought about it that way (Snake fucking shit up and Big B being the hero), though it's explained that Snake was being used by the Patriots during Zanzibar and Outer Heaven[/sp]
[sp]I was really hoping the game would end with us seeing Outer Heaven being created, and a post-game phone conversation detailing how the Patriots were going to send Solid Snake in to stop Big Boss's campaign against them... but no such luck.[/sp]
The worst part is MGS V actually made me want to replay the Witcher 3 since the two games are almost the same in their structure, but that's not how I've ever felt about a Metal Gear Solid game :c
The worst part is MGS V actually made me want to replay the Witcher 3 since the two games are almost the same in their structure, but that's not how I've ever felt about a Metal Gear Solid game :c
Not to get too off topic, but this really is the year of the gigantic open worlds eh? Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, MGSV, Mad Max, and soon Fallout 4 (I'm sure I'm forgetting some).
As blasphemous as it sounds to say in this thread...[sp]Witcher 3 is probably the best game out of all of them, even MGSV. From what I've seen, Witcher 3 is much more detailed in every area of the game (apparently every sidequest has a story and is voiceacted, which is insane) that MGSV's numbered sidequests can't even compare. I don't even have to get into story here- I've barely seen the game and I know it has a great tale that continues with both the previous games and with the books. Overall, while I think I enjoy MGSV more than I think I would Witcher 3, I have to give it to that game that it was better in most ways.[/sp]
Just did Mission 31. I only have one thing to say. Slightest spoilers in the link.
[sp]idk why people are having a hard time with the snipers, quiet was pmuch useless in it, and i just ran cover to cover and sniped them back.[/sp]
I liked stuff being supernatural though (MGSV spoilers) [sp]Did they explicty say the Cobras used parasites? Because my thought was that Code Talker was one of the few, if maybe the only person who had them, and they weren't rediscovered until Skull face.[/sp]
[sp]They also didn't explain away Psycho Mantis, which was nice. Its much better for it to literally be ESP[/sp]
When comparing the other MGS games, I'd have to say that in terms of story and gameplay balance, 1 and 3 are probably the best in my opinion.
1 had a setting that's well paced and hard to forget while also having a story that is constantly intriguing that gets a good bit crazy towards the end.
3's story is just a good and fun spy thriller that doesn't take itself too seriously, and the gameplay is top notch and just melds well with the game around it.
As for the others, 2 was just a massive post-modern experiment (one that I respect Kojima for in retrospect), and I actually kind of liked 4 despite the long ass cutscenes it starts to have about mid way through the game. [sp]I didn't really like how it went about invalidating or explaining some stuff from MGS 2 though.[/sp]
Never played PW, so I can't really comment on it.
Not really important shit:
[sp]Oh, and agreed on MGS V making me want to replay Witcher 3. I had to drop Witcher 3 because of life reasons, and I was pretty damn far in it, but I've forgotten some decent bits of the plot since then, so I'm thinking about just starting from scratch. I may just some videos on the story up until the point I'm at though. Not sure.[/sp]
So did two different people write Kaz? He fluctuated between sensible and full on idiot mode every other scene
Finally got "cover me" commands and the tranq rifle* for Quiet and holy shit she's OP as hell
