With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
haven't beaten the game yet, but hearing about all the cut content and the ending apparently being shitty does make me feel a little jipped. Is that warranted? I definitely don't regret my purchase though, still a lot of content for a game these days
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
i dedicated all nighters and played the game like a baby w/ no responsibilities whatsoevere and I don't remember doing that like, ever mgs5 is strange in that it has shortcomings, flaws, dumb stuff, but it's still a solid 10/10 material somehow. The term "wasted potential" pretty much affects every video game nowadays, even this one, yet somehow I enjoyed every hour of my 64 hours long gameplay and even more since there are sideops and modified missions to do, dumb modding based on replacing quiet with d-horse, and now that I don't have much to lose I might try getting into FOBs or research all the fun stuff I had no time nor resources to
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
Not at all. This is still the best game of the year for me, while it had shortcomings I still haven't had this fun in a long time (I loved TW3 but the sidequests in that were so repetetive) I shed tears in the prologue just because of the fact that I was finally playing the game after 3 years. It was unreal.
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
I've spent well over $200 on this game, as disappointed as some of the cut stuff is this is the only video game in years i've continuously wanted to play. No regrets.
Honestly I would've liked if they explained more about (ENDGAME SPOILERS) [sp]Tretij Rebenok and how the fuck Eliquid uses him to control Sahelanthropus[/sp]
[sp] They did, one of the tapes you get later goes into this. Tretij reacts to the anger that other people experience, which ultimately subsumes his own control. When Big Boss first wakes up, the plane carrying him crashes thanks to BB's desire for revenge. This switches to Volgin, then Skullface. Then of course Eli is on the helicopter with him near, so Eli essentially takes control. Ocelot even figures out it was Eli [/sp]
Alright. I was just kinda worried. I have over 20 hours and any other Metal Gear (except PW, I have 95 hours and I'm not done)would've been over by now, and I'm only at 11%. It's awesome.
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
I don't think I've regretted my purchase, it's more of a disappointment factor knowing that Kojima and his team won't be able to touch-up or distribute additional content that counts, and the amount of cut content that was presented to me was a pretty big bummer aswell. With that being said, [sp]plot holes that are in the story[/sp] are a pretty good indication that Kojima and his team didn't get nearly enough time to finish what they wanted. I often find it difficult trying to explain why certain things don't make sense/incomplete/needed alot of touch-ups because alot of those things are in the, "second half" of the game. Ultimately, (post-game spoilers) [sp]I feel like ALOT of stuff was shoehorned in at the last second, and or wasn't thought out properly, especially with the ending that we got that didn't really answer any questions[/sp] but aside from that, it's a very mechanically sound game.
With all this talk of TPP's shortcomings, is anybody regretting their purchase, or is it too early to say?
The thing is while TPP has disappointing aspects as a metal gear game the gameplay itself is so damn good that it really makes up for it I'd argue actually that being open world really unlocks the full potential of metal gear's gameplay style. Yeah having structured levels is nice and all but metal gear works really damn well as an open world game. Especially considering some of the best areas from past games were always the more open "deus ex" style ones where you find your own approach to infiltrating the zone.
I really want to get into it but the page will end up looking like a damn sanitized document
Fuck the [sp]cargo truck[/sp] mission.
MGSV is fantastic but honestly it could have really used maybe an extra year or so of development time. The worst part is seeing all the stuff we never got in the final game, I was really excited to [SP]return to Camp Omega.[/SP] Also for those mentioning how Battle Gear should be a vehicle you can use in-game, it originally was but Kojima decided not to do it as using it broke the gameplay balance. (It's a shame though, all its done has sat in my R&D lab ever since.)
SUCH A LUST FOR REVENGE! [SP]AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA[/SP] (User was banned for this post ("Meme / Spoiler misuse" - Craptasket))

Even though the controls in the PC version are greatly improved from GZ's port, the new slow walk toggle bothers me. In Ground Zeroes PC Ctrl causes you to walk at the second highest possible speed while crouch walking, which on controller would be like just slightly easing up on the stick. Just slow enough that enemies can't hear you coming. In TPP Ctrl sets you to the slowest crouch walk speed, as if you were just barely nudging the stick at all, which is agonizingly slow, and it's not even enough to keep up with moving enemies. A really minor complaint yeah, but it's like the one objectively better thing about using a controller, and the issue comes up more often than I'd like.
I don't know how many of you played previous MGS games but Phantom Pain felt very rushed. Maybe I missed a lot by not listening to the tapes but the story just felt very lacking until Chapter 2 and even then it wasn't very immersive. Gameplay wise it was fantastic other than the fact you end up back at the same areas over and over again, I guess I just wanted more cutscenes. Ground Zeros threw you into this big compound which is what I expected in The Phanom Pain, but the compounds were just small areas. Mission 43 seemed like the most typical MGS game mission and I loved it.

[editline]8th September 2015[/editline] Also, becareful for using Quiet in missions 29 and 42, it can apparently corrupt your save. Source: MGS/Konami Twitters.
Cut content? Do you have a link to an article about it?
Search for MGS V Mission 51. Be prepared for spoilers if you haven't beat the game though.
I wonder how long it will be before actual DLC comes out. Costume DLC at the very least seems very probable, and I would imagine the preorder bonuses will eventually become paid dlc in case you missed it.

Hopefully they'll be big DLC packs like MGS4 and not individual costume pieces sold for a dollar each. (I'm being too optimistic here, aren't I? Why are video games so depressing?)

Honestly, another sin of the game are the [sp]trailers. Ten hours long, ten million trailers with pretty much every important cutscene, 3 years of waiting, and the fact that 4channers managed to guess it all perfectly. The game would be better off with a couple of non-artsy trailers, or maybe no trailers at all since we had GZ, because in the end while the trailers were real nice, they managed to hurt the game more than they should[/sp]
the reason for that walk speed is that with the GZ walk button you'd still be detected because in the beginning of ttp you don't have the stealth suit.
But you won't be heard if you go at that walk speed in fatigues with a controller, and the sneaking suit in GZ made the same amount of noise that the fatigues do in TPP. That speed would still work for sneaking up on guys, but it's just not available to keyboard players for some bizarre reason.

Tried to run the game on pc. It just auto closes itself. Anyone knows what's up?
Aw, man. I want to wipe out all my memories I so want to enjoy the game but my friend keep spoiling me the story
[sp]the fact that 4channers managed to guess it all perfectly.[/sp]
They really did, it's kind of bullshit.
the reason for that walk speed is that with the GZ walk button you'd still be detected because in the beginning of ttp you don't have the stealth suit.
Splinter Cell did it the best, using the mouse wheel to control speed level.
Do late game enemies just not give a shit about stealth? I keep getting spotted through walls 100 miles away and noscoped by machine guns. I have to take wide ass paths now because the AI's gotten so obscenely good at spotting me and they all have heavy heavy armor on at all times so they just seem to shrug everything off. Not even doing the little mission objectives is taking gear away and it's just kind of annoying now.
