Yes, but the power converters mod hasn't updated to accommodate the change except in the 1.5 version

Or that. Of course, the project table is disagreeable about that since it reads from client recipes so to take advantage of the fixed recipes people would have to use a vanilla crafting table gui, and most people prefer the project table.

On one hand I think it needs to go because it's a broken (both balance-wise and performance-wise) age, and we'd be better off without it. On the other hand, it helped me get an easy start, so it'd be wrong of me to rob others of the benefits that helped me get started.
I think if we do go through with it, people should be very open to helping newcomers get set up with some basic machinery, if they ask for help.

This would make stuff too hard on newbies, perhaps as a compromise, you could disable the hard gregtech recipes for the normal solar panels?

Ever used biofuel? It has been powering my base from quite some time and it's not even fully automated.
I don't really get the point of Gregtech in the first place. It tries to make the game harder, but it fails miserably at it, because making recipes require all kinds of rare shit doesn't make the game harder, it makes it more annoying.

A normal generator and a treefarm really isn't hard to come by.
Well from the results people really don't mind us removing it. I'll give until late Sunday night for people to get their equipment out then I'll clear it.
