Space Station 13 v11 - Admiral Hippie does bad videos

And there goes another shit server.
How fucking stupid does someone have to be as a nuke ops, to lay the fuck around with a medkit right beside them, bawling out for help when you, as the AI in their hand, are trying to keep them alive and on the mission.
Fucking hell. It's not like you're AN ELITE TRAINED OPERATIVE OF A CORPERATION CONGLOMERATE WITH A FUCKING NUKE DISK, SEVERAL WEAPONS, AN AI AT YOUR DISPOSAL, AND ARMOR agains a crew of HAPLESS IDIOTS that can barely keep itself together.
Not only that, you get your entire team and yourself killed, and say "oh all the ways were blocked" when I had told you the opposite.
Don't fucking give me these excuses. Get the fuck up, grab the medkit, heal yourself, stick me in the AI core so I can release the singularity, defend the nuke until singularity is released, and then extract me and your team and get out as the station blows.
Nope.
Fuck sakes, some people are so stupid it makes me want to drink.
And I hate alcohol.
I'll still be picking up Ion. It sounds like a creative expansion on the mechanics of SS13.
I'll probably be picking up Elite: Dangerous instead once I get the money. People have told me that its very good, so eh.
So I wonder if a station is hit by Cuban Pete in Ion if players who signed off on that station are moved to new stations when they sign back in? The whole "persistent world" aspect will be interesting to see considering how quickly south shit can go in an SS13 environment.
I wonder how they'll handle combat logging. Will it be like in rust where you go to sleep when you log out? Will dorms finally be useful for something besides RP?
I'll belive it when the game is in a playable state and has anything worth noting besides a teaser trailer.
I could be wrong and it could be great, but at the end of the day, nothing will beat SS13's insane storys.
Oh, I agree it could totally bomb. I'm just saying that at least Rocket has actually released something notable.

You do know how his "notable" release turned out, don't you?

Better than anything Noms has ever done is what I'm trying to convey.
Like, how one Hitler is preferable if the alternative is two Hitlers.

Gee strawberryclock, how come your history lets you have TWO Hitlers?
escape shuttle coming in 30 seconds, fly to the dock with a jetpack
have a really bad feeling that shuttle will hit me
think "i'm not stupid, there is no way that shuttle will hit me because i have a jetpack"
get to shuttle dock, floating around waiting for it to dock so i can break into one of the windows to enter
jetpack suddenly runs out of fuel
float into shuttle dock
smashed by shuttle
oh my god

Leaving them in would cause more of a problem I'm since the world is persistent. Should do it so there's a delay though if you aren't in somewhere (say dorms).
So that way if you are getting murdered then your murderer can still kill you without you logging out and ensuring your instant safety. Instead, logging out outside of the dorms should come with like a 30 second despawn timer or something.

What if someone tries to kill you in dorms?
I don't suppose anyone here has the url for lifeweb's second server?

Maybe instead it could be like a 45 second combat timer so you can't log your character out from the game until 45 seconds has passed since you last took damage.
Or maybe have a shuttle that leads to The Federation you have to take if you want to log your character completely out, otherwise they stay in game and risk dying. That's actually probably be the best way to handle it now that I think about it.
I don't know, I'm cautiously optimistic.
There are no other games like SS13 yet so the more that try the concept, the better.
is TG getting worse or better? i can't really tell anymore
Heck if I know.
I'm just waiting for a server that doesn't get it's panties in a bunch over an antagonist doing it's job or someone fucking around, or administration biased towards specific players.
People that use heavy RP/major RP for SS13 are doing it wrong.
You come into SS13 expecting to die in the inevitable chaos that is to eventually erupt.
To paraphrase, You're captain? Just brings with it all the prestige and responsibility of some kind of fucking man-child Kindergarten teacher

Honestly paradise station, new eden, and liberty are all pretty decent for this. Though paradise and eden have a bit of a "special snowflake" issue.

And the "special snowflake" shit is mostly just in the backstory fluff that hardly anybody pays any heed to in-game, from my experience.

In other news last night I had a round where I was a Vox Raider. The only one who had ever played a Vox Raider before, too, apparently. We needed 4 diamonds and 20 solid plasma. We decided, after a bit of arguing, to go on as Traders.
The moment we got onto the station, someone set off a series of bombs, and we were blamed for it at first. Then, the guard vox who stayed on the skipjack to keep it from being stolen got the bright idea to try and break into the mining station and steal diamond and plasma they hadn't even mined for yet. Then some fuckhead stole one of the other Vox's guns, and shot at the detective with it; we got blamed for it, once again. Then the clown stole one of our N2 tanks and got detained by security, but not before Sec also detained the Vox who was choking on oxygen for trying to get his tank back from the clown.
In the end, we all got taken prisoner by an ERT that was called the moment we arrived because evidently griffers gonna griff. The ERT dudes were cool, though, and once we got back to CentComm that uncuffed us and we pal'd around for a bit as I emagged open all the ERT gear room doors. Then we killed the ERT(They attacked first, I think), and set up at the shuttle dock to kill everyone who made it off the station using the ERT guns. Then a Death Squad was called, apparently just with the mission objective "VOX? ON MY CENTCOMM?"
All in all, a pain in the ass round, but also kind of fun in hindsight.
Urist mcstation is really good lately, one or two "holier then thou" players (Interestingly from the exodus of baystation) but other then that, solid.
Anybody who heavy RP's in SS13 is playing the game wrong, plain and simple. The game isn't designed for that for many reasons. It's also why hardcore RP never worked in garrysmod - predicable and boring. No matter how hard you try to make an interesting character, without knowing the characters backstory or having any reason to care about it, characters only have their quirks and habits to interest you. It doesn't help videogames with a lot of creativity are fast. If you try to make it slow, timeframes get messed up. You can't write a full paragraph every time you speak. It's too much. Imagine a TV show only when people spoke in an action scene, it lasted 10 minutes. Often time while playing bay I found myself sitting and waiting for the antagonist to finish their slow, agonizing monologue about why they were doing it or something completely unrelated. Another factor is the game does the action for you - you can't pretend to do actions or else it takes away from the core experience. If you wanted to do that, you'd be better off playing dungeons and dragons, which is designed for slow gameplay.
You just can't take an fast-paced action game and turn it into a slow roleplay - nobody will ever care about your backstory nor will they have the time to learn it unless they really bother to get to know you, which often times SS13 doesn't allow.
This has already been said many times, but the fact of the matter about serious RP is that SS13 is an awful engine for it. It's nigh impossible to roleplay in high danger situations (combat, in firey or decompressing rooms, etc) because you WILL get killed, and the game in general is just so clunky, glitchy and laggy that treating it as if it were real is more embarrassing than a good way to play it.
Back when I played on serious RP servers (stop laughing, at the time /tg/ was thread bare and Goon was undergoing major player/admin purges), all of that really showed. An antag who had a goal to assassinate me emoted "pulls out a gun!" and then started monologuing about how I crossed the wrong people and how he was going to make me pay. I just took his gun from him and shot him in the head.
It's kind of concerning to me that this stuff is spreading at the rate it is.

honestly the only way to monologue properly to someone would be to tie them up in maint and monologue to them THEN, rather than out in the open where your typing will get you killed in self defence.

Baystation didn't used to be like that. There was a time when you could still serious rp without having to emote everything, eventually though, the newer admins (who were heavy RP'ers and basically lived on the server) decided that emotes were necessary because the RP crowd didn't like dying without getting to "play." This caused all the people who played for gameplay / the codebase to leave because rounds would be extended to up to 5-10 hours without fail, and the station would only be evacuated because the station deteriorated with random events. I wouldn't be surprised if they started removing that too.
Urist seems to be the place where all the people who liked bay for it's gameplay and semi-serious RP hanged out. They run on a "All situations can be handled IC" instead of "everything requires a ban request or admin intervention if it goes slightly bad."
The reason that Bay is bad is not because it's RP it's because the admins are shitty and the rules are also shitty.
I'll forever remember the time I was banned for suiciding in a secluded area on bay
Any server where you have to do emotes before you kill someone is a bad one.
I'm pretty sure bay is also the server that bans for having an emergency tank equipped all the time. An oxygen tank. On a space station.
Back in the day when they had a vomit emote, it was possible to get banned for vomiting while wearing a gas mask, even if you had a disease and couldn't help it.
That's assuming that they didn't just outright ban you for touching a gas mask.
I just roleplay as a competent staff member who is surrounded by idiotic crewmen and chaos on hippie.
It's a lot easier that way.

Like, I treat it how the vaults are treated in fallout. It's an experiment by nanotrassen to see what happens when they fill a station with idiots and the syndicates just happen to be involved
I got perma'd from bay awhile back for taking out the fireaxe and putting it on my back as an atmos tech. I was cooperating with security and walking to the brig when I got bwoink'd :v:

A warning for something like that would make sense, but a perma? Jesus christ, what the fuck.
i remember there was a video series for ss13
it involved a new player and his friend who played on bay
the bay player had to teach this guy the game while roleplaying to perfection on bay, you could practically hear the nerdy squeak in his voice as he was saying "s-stop moving around so much! just alt click if you want your character to face a direction!"
"this server is basically my life, i CAN'T get banned from this"
"why did you take out the fire extinguisher when there are no fires around??? put it back!"
"i know walking is slower than running but we HAVE to walk or we look like griefers"
That reminds me of that one guy Deadsnipe discovered, who went around SS13 videos on Youtube with a pink MLP avatar saying crap like "Im SO glad i dont play on immature grief servers like this and i only play on MATURE ROLEPLAY baystation!".
