Hah, that happened during a DA round once, someone came at with with a dual-e while I was stripping my victim, as the attacker clicked I stripped off the guys backpack and he put it in.
I picked up the backpack and walked away, the guy just stood there...

Maybe having SS13 in 3D will fix the issue of melee being super crap if your opponent knows basic dodging. I sure hope that remake goes well, it looks promising.

Oh wow, I'm actually one of the developers of this project!
I'm the modeler/artist on this team.
I whipped up our new logo a couple of days ago:

We've actually been looking for a new community to call home, and post updates to.
We really like facepunch, but we're not quite sure where updates on our game would belong. The game's got a bit more scope than the Programming and Modeling threads, as we generally love to show off a little of both.
Speaking of which, I'd love to show off some of my models for this game, if you don't mind.
I've been trying to focus on providing an art style as similar as the original game's spritework as possible.
Of course, many of the models in the video are placeholders, and I confess that even lot of my own models need rework.
This game has been a great learning process for me. I'm always looking to improve.

But yeah, if you guys have any ideas as to which board or thread would be suitable for us to post on, please let us know!
well, this thread comes to mind, you're more than welcome to post future updates here
Yeah, definitely great content for the thread.

Well, if you guys ever need help with sound design or video related shenanigans I'd love to lend my hand. I've been wanting a proper remake to come out for ages.
im not holding my breath
but im hoping
the little remake that could
go
one day ss13 will be released as a fully fleshed out game on steam
no lag
added game mechanics that make it a blast even if you are not an antag
no more clunky combat or interface
a whole new layer of atmosphere with 3d. wandering tight maintenance corridors with a flamethrower and hearing the shrill scream of a crew member being mauled by an alien in the level above you
one day. one day this game's full potential will be unlocked

or itll fade into obscurity like so many other games once byond dies
or itll fade into obscurity like so many other games once byond dies
I pray that when Byond dies it'll spur all the coders into action to work on the remake.
SS13 is build from tacking things on to what was already a jankey core that began as a basic mod.
Either what we have lasts forever or it needs to be torn out at the roots and rebuilt from scratch.
3D SS13 won't work unless the combat systems keep the same complexity.
Movement and combat mechanics are so diverse with 2D spessman.
I don't think 3d is the way to go honestly. Swapping places with someone to get them to slip on a banana just doesn't make sense in first person.
If you guys ever find you cant work on the project anymore for whatever reason, please please please go open source with it. Small projects like that can be fragile and its such a shame when they go under and then you never hear from them again.

It genuinely annoys me how people would rather let a game die rather than let the source code be out.

We'll release our code open-source if we fail. You can count on that.
After all, it's how the original game started. Sort of. Heh.

I'll definitely talk to the other guys here. You're pretty good, from what I've seen.

Key reminder that part of the charm of ss13 is the fact that it's always an ongoing "project" stations change and evolve over time and you end up with new and interesting shit as they days go by... or abject horror in pixel form (Looking at you fox race from aurora)
What I mean to say is keep it moddable, weather or not you decide to monetize it.
my biggest concern regarding 3d remakes of ss13 is whether or not it'll be as modular as the original one
it's easier for a 2d game to be modular

That's the plan, and we'll do our best.

Point of ss13 is social interaction, not modularity. I wouldn't be fussed.
Me and some friends were discussing the problem with those stations that have TONS of playable races. We concluded this
So the perfect racial balance is the kind hippie or /tg/ has. There are 2 races, humans and lizards. The vast majority of players will play humans. The few who play lizards tend to be a bit self aware of it, so not only does the extra race add a bit of flavor to the game, but it adds a layer of goofiness which is great for ss13.
Now when you have a shit ton of playable races it's just plain confusing and cluttered and pretty much ruins the atmosphere. But that isn't the real problem. Having all these races attracts the players who need to be ☆.。*oh so special and unique*・°☆ and the server becomes filled with power gaming, sensitive, up tight, and edgy players who need to show how unique and special they are with their black furred red eyed 1,000 year old vampire wolf/cat girl who takes the game WAY TOO seriously and just sucks the fun out of everything. Y'know people like that Onyxscale guy I mentioned last page. So now you have like 20 characters all competing to be the most unique and most special.
Short answer: Too many races makes the ☆.。special-snowflakes・°☆ take over.
I'm not surprised about special snowflakes using the alien races, they've always been designed as a sort of power fantasy for them. I'm not just saying that for the sake of it, that is seriously how they started out.
When liggers and catbeasts were first implemented (keep in mind that this is Baystation back years ago, not /tg/), they both had fire resistance, stun resistance, no damage from cold at all, the capability to withstand lack of oxygen for longer, 15 damage stunning claws that would break bones in two hits, and to top that all off, they could mutilate you or, less commonly but it still happened, kill you for "racism" which basically was anything they didn't want to hear. I guess their first players have stuck around.
Keep in mind that I'm a lizard player, but the difference between me and the special snowflakes is I really don't take myself seriously and I play up the ligger thing to an extant.
Like I'll play a lizard librarian named 'Reads-Real-Good', or my name for any other job 'Runs-Kinda-Fast'
But also I never bring attention to the fact I'm a different race. It doesn't matter and nobody gives a shit. I just get on with my job

Hippie does have catbeasts and bird people, but the former is open season to robust and the latter is only available as a thing admins can force on people I believe.
I'll always remember the time when Paradise broke the catbeast code so that they couldn't lose heat, leading to them essentially bursting into flames just by existing.
It's mostly a snowflake thing, the races could exist fine if it weren't for people treating them as supa sirius RP characters that are way too edgy for a game with wizards and farting.
