• Space Station 13 v11 - Admiral Hippie does bad videos

I once had a round as an Engineer back when Para had super carps, where I was the only one bothering to wire up solars. After I got port aft, and start circling around to the rest of them, the carp spawned. EVERY SINGLE SOLAR had a carp standing near it, and I managed to take out ~3 of them before I went down just outside the airlock on my way back in from fore starboard. I called for help on the radio and someone dragged me to medbay, then once I was patched up I went right back to trying to wire port starboard; I managed to take out another 2 or 3 on that solar alone before I went down, and I ended up dying on my way back in from my injuries. But god damn, that's as robust as I've ever been, and if felt great.

oh boy, Hippie updated their codebase to the latest /tg/ one. Considering how different they got, they had to basically start fresh again and port over whats needed. Other than the map changing nothing truly major changed, but everyone is furious as you would expect. [editline]5th October 2015[/editline] There's some stuff that needs to be worked out, but in the next few weeks it will get back to the meme hellhole that is Hippie.

Most servers have lost touch of what SS13 is. Too many RP servers not taking advantage of the game's complexity and antagonists to shake up rounds and cause intresting confrontational episodes, No memorable stories. Too much Bay mentality, not enough masterminds like Cuban pete, not enough terror in the servers.
The 'RP' in SS13 is perhaps my favorite part- but I realized that to truly have the game work from a purist perspective it might be best to take a random name and appearance every round. I don't dislike the more continuous RP of having a character with a defined personality and affiliations, but in a sense the round-based gameplay and the need to avoid metagaming, as well as the focus on accomplishing your goals as an antag or counter-antag means that RP in the game maybe should take a unique form where it's more contained within the parameters of each round.
There's no reason why RP and high-octane action cannot exist simultaneously. There is no "purist" prospective- rather a divide on what feels more like proper SS13. When there is no danger and no threats to you, those nearby, or station, RP is fine, but you should always be kept on your toes. Paranoia and fear/panic should rise. I belive that whatever you can read offhand in the wiki would be common character knowledge, but round-sensitive information being leaked is meta. This means that players can react accordingly- but can't just yap at eachother over skype telling eachother what's going on. What the player knows should be the case, If the player knows how to build walls as a botanist, so be it, there's nothing stopping a botanist in real life from making a wall logically, What the player learns in-game is what the character should know cross-round, with the exceptions of antag info which -must- be found out in-round. This is why SS13 has IC and OOC: IC is for in-character and in-round speak, OOC is for general out-of-game chat.
I have been playing the game for [I]years[/I] now, and I have to say the recent trends in RP servers are kind of worrying me, mostly due to how many of them there are and how many players they draw in. Even Baystation briefly allowed [I]some[/I] creative freedom amongst antagonists and in roles and understood that sometimes people will die. Nowadays, hard RP servers and even medium ones are less a game and more somebody's Deviantart OC roleplay that you will be permabanned for interrupting or immersion breaking. At least they're easy to griff, because nobody has ever seen combat in any of them.
lifeweb is a good example of what SS13 should have always strived towards imo
