If I ever wanted to make some misc sounds for hippie are there any outstandingly bad ones right now that I could replace? Or anything that might be needed? Im fucking around with sound right now and could use something extra to do/go and record.
Which sounds do you want to replace? that's usually my department.
We should bring back the KOTOR door sounds.
Well there arent many that come to mind right now, but I am doing some foley work and I think it would be cool if I could contribute to hippie some more.
Something off the top of my head to add though might be an idle sound for the singulo. I have a thunder sheet that can make some pretty cool rumbly low frequency stuff. I use it for the bass in wind but it makes all sorts of sounds.
Also I have some samples of welding if you want to consider them as replacements for the current welding noise.
When will hippie add bloody footprints ever
Ok I got some samples

Rather redundant with the blood trails.

I have a retardly large amount of gun sounds I lifted from project reality. If you want I can give the file so you can replace some of the weapons like the CR-20,LMG,SMG,any ballistic gun really.

Also if Syndicates on Hippie can still get a Syndie-borg I highly request that it comes with a flavor skin of HK-47, because nothing is better than the best murder-bot.
heads up
paprika was just banned from the forums, irc, and gameservers
the headcoders also banned him from #coderbus and the github for /tg/station
As much as I enjoy that happening, I think he was around long enough to cause actual damage. People actually left due to those changes, and the games been changed enough that they'll likely not go back because AdmiralHippie and his admins actually made a good competitor to /tg/ in Hippie.

To this day, I still have no idea how I manage to pull it off. I just made sure to pick people who seemed cool and looked like they wouldn't cause problems.

Offering an alternative to /tg/'s rather shitty "Coders are the gods." type deal and not adding in other content that would make /tg/ code not TG code by BayCoon code.
[editline]26th February 2015[/editline]
Prime example is this:
Hippie had goonchem on their server a while ago, it was met with dissatisfaction and was removed. I assume Hippie's coders actually play on the server rather that coding and rarely popping on few a rounds and etc. See Paprika hardly ever played as it was and basically added Goonchem silently IIRC, and it fucking broke everything. People hated it and still hate til this day, but it wasn't removed at all, despite being a very token amount of people on the server who wanted to use it. Specially it was Paprika and Mrperson. Because why make players use Gooncode when they could go play at Goon if they wanted to, but elect not to.
Lawli what you did was more or less have the coders on a leash and actually listen to the input of the players, instead them have a near untouchable status who are able to force their changes upon playerbase.
Hippie in regards to the guide video's I can understand the basics being fairly informative but in regards to specific jobs (if you end up getting that far) I seriously hope you do it like the TG wiki did.
All that "Chemist - Huff kelotine, give the clown space lube" sort of shit.
Haaa! the Drama on the TG forum's is Delicious.
So Paprika made a Pull request to remove a bar sign that refernced greytiding.
Hey
This is awful
Don't do it again
Thanks in advance
He then locks the comments on the the Pull request so nobody can speak ill of his glorious master change.
A thread is created on the forums because the fun police are in town again as seen here and of course it gets flak from misterperson, paprika and one other admin whle everyone else universally pans it.
At this Point MisterStonedOne who is the site admin creaes a new PR to discuss paprika's PR owever Cheriden a maintainer closes it down and force merged Paprikas PR just to piss of MisterStonedOne and everyone else.
Jeb, who is a global mod, also mentioned how Pap on the dev forum... and I QUOTE HERE!
For a small bit of transparency here, just commenting to say I disapproved a rather lengthy post by paprika that was literally nothing more than "this pr will be merged, fuck everyone and what you think"
Now here's the kicker, every PR is supposed to sit for 24hours in review so that a mantainer can take a look at it and feedback can be given. Now some coders want this rule removed in case of a fix for critical bugs, however this change remains to be decided upon.
Cheriden merged Pap's anti fun PR before this period was up. One of the reasons for making such a pr was that "Greytiding is against the rules."
As of right now TG station is collapisng into a stage 5 butthole of the internet, I never thought that they could stoop any lower but now they are cherry picking rules... as far as i can see, this is why Pap was banned.
Actually, the real reason Paprika was banned... Well, basically, about two-three days ago, someone tried to commit suicide. This person was a player on tgstation and was my friend's friend. He brought her and another person into a livestream wherein he showed himself slicing his arm open across the artery with a knife. That night, most everyone on the IRC banded together to get an EMT sent to the guy's house. Paprika then came on after we confirmed that the guy managed to get hauled to the hospital by the EMTs, and you know what paprika did?
He laughed at the guy's attempt to suicide. He genuinely was pleased to hear that someone had attempted to off themselves. He was instantly permabanned from the tgstation irc right there. The next day or so, Anon3 caught wind of it and the log where he laughed at the suicide attempt, and permabanned him ingame.
Within the next ten minutes, Coderbus permanantly banned him from github and the irc channel, and got the forum owner to permaban paprika from the forums, and five minutes after that, Scaredy added Paprika to the "Never unban" list, which is inhabited by two other people. BeardBeard and Tonto.
Here's the log snippet where Papsmear laughed at the suicide attempt. It speaks for itself.
Yeesh well, looks like he WAS a sociopath after all.
Dear Emprah, I knew Paprika was an asshole.. but this is a new low.
Like, seriously.
Mhmm. And seeing the photo of the guy's arm sliced open... God above, I hope I don't have to see anything like that ever again. At the very least, we're certain that he's in the hospital now, and that someone as truly monsterous as paprika will never have a chance at getting anywhere near SS13 ever again. I heard he just got banned from vgstation about ten-twenty minutes ago as well.
RIP Paprika. You will not be missed.
RIP Paprika. You will not be missed.
Rest in Poo
Paprka shittery aside, you guys are being a bit dramatic about /tg/ being on the edge of "collapsing". Why can't we just accept that Hippie and /tg/ fill different niches and have fun playing spessmen rather than constantly slagging on other communities

because /tg/'s coderbus is the shittiest thing since shit
The situation with Paprika had been developing for a very long time, the removal of the "Grey Tide Bar" sign was what set off recent events, but it was the careless attitude towards a attempted suicide that was the straw that broke the camels back.
The reason as to why Paprika remained coding and unbanned for so long was simple, in my opinion he was a dedicated coder who genuinely wants what's best for /tg/station, even if his vision did not line up with what many other people saw, the fact that he's was a very dedicated coder made him a good asset.
But he's gone now, and I'll remain very interested in seeing how the situation between the codebase and the playerbase develops.
But the server is not dying. It maintains a very healthy server population and in fact is undoubtedly one of the most played SS13 servers around for now, and overall the server itself is fun to play on, at least in my opinion.
Now what I'm looking forward to most is Dismemberment finally being finished and the new Shadowling game mode being finalized.
I think at this point this game manages to attract hardcore sociopaths.

You mean it didn't before?
THis game is literally a space asylumn for the criminally insane, it just happens to have the facade of a working space station and research center.
Holy crap I know this game gets drama from time to time, but this is just a whole new fucking level.

wait, it has a facade as a working space station and a research center?
since when? i always thought it was a space asylum for the spacialy insane

Well in contrast to what I just said I don't think pap being a sociopath is linked in too deeply with SS13. He would've been a bastard manchild if he was coding for some other open source project.

Uh, last time I checked he's on the SS14 project.
I leave for like five days and things flip the fuck out, Jesus you guys.

I feel kind of bad for him now. But he ought to have known you can't get anywhere without any people skills. The server wasn't run for his pleasure, but for the people playing on it. All the dedication in the world is a wasted effort if you're not doing anything with your time that'll be appreciated.
While we're at it we should try and poach steelpoint, he has a few neat ideas that while clunky sound pretty fun. For example he thought of Giving the HoS an advanced E-Gun with Ion rifle function that was also a tator objective.
With a little tweaking it might be an amusing idea.
