Earn Karma? What the fuck is this, no I want to play space station 13 not earn karma
where does this kind of stuff even come from
Paradise station has karma points, theres no negative karma, and players can each grant one karma to whomever every round. It doesn't serve much of a purpose, its only used for unlocking some playable species and jobs.

Actually that sounds like a good idea, other players being able to pass out karma to nice people, rather than having a robot dictate what was a good action, players might put their karma vote down for someone who did good.

It's good as long as there's no negative karma
Negative can be easily abused
Yeah, a karma "vote" at the end of the round to see who was bad and who was good seems like a good idea
but it would be abused by assistants giving negative karma to the HoS for brigging them.
A nice idea is a job objective system like on goon where you have certain objectives given to you at the start of the round, like "make some food" as the chef or something. I don't remember all of the specifically, but I think this would work out pretty well. To encourage people to do these objectives, certain rewards could be given out every time you reach a karma milestone. I'm guessing every time you complete your objectives you would get a few.

lol, beat me to it.

Although this was pretty dumb of you to say given the fact that it's already been done with TTT in Garry's mod, and that it works quite well. Don't use shitty buzzwords and logic to push your agenda and "I'm always right" attitude on someone. That's not cool, man.
TTT's karma system is anything but the system you're wanting. Hit someone as a non-traitor? Karma hit. Don't do that stuff? No karma hit. That's not exactly definitive nor can it even come close to the complexity of situations in SS13.
Perhaps 2AM me should not have been the one to express the idea, and thinking back having ways to "gain" karma is probably a bad idea.
The whole point was that in TTT the karma number actually does a very good job at keeping people in line, all the karma number does is that when it gets low players deal less damage by a miniscule percentage, as far as I rember it never gets low enough that you have to shoot someone more times to kill them.
The idea behind wanting to put a karma system or good behaviour reward method in SS13 was along a similar line, except that it would be mentioned that people with good karma will stand a better chance at getting the jobs they want... however assistants being uncapped makes this a moot point but the fact that a supposed punishment is there tends to stop people going balls to the wall retard mode.
Yes, the computer should not be judge jury and executioner, rather a karma system should be an aid to admins. Karma should be there to punish shitlery behaviour that is definatly grade A1 faggotry. Slipping a guy or breaking in is hard to measure, killing random people might be possible.
As I mentioned there should not be any form of automatic "hard punishment" in the end only an admin should be able to ban someone. What karma can be used for is a very rough judge of character, the karma vlues should be balanced in such a way that if you have remarkably low karma you had to really try to get it that low, an admin can then look at a players karma level and it might help in deciding if this guy just made a few mistakes or is a shitler in the making.
And again, just knowing there is some mystical number attached to you that tracks how much of a dick you've been tends to discourage casual shitlery, yes people can just not give a shit and griff the place up anyway but those people tend to get found out and dealt with by admins anywho.
Ok so what happens if I welder bomb security? Was it to break in and save the station from a blob or was it to break in and rescue an inmate or simply piss of the security officers? There's no real way to define what's right or wrong which is why you have to have human admins to watch that kind of stuff.
The only functional karma system I could see being implemented is the one most recently mentioned, by prompting players to give a point of karma to someone if they thought they deserved it at the end of each round. This prevents any negative connotations being implied by low karma which can be handled by admins, while still offering incentives for players to play well in order to receive high karma.
I give extreme leeway to people welder bombing sec into order to get weapons to fight blobs or ops. If you're being the faggot security team and denying the station means to win then go fuck yourself.

Shout out to the twats who, when sciences asks for combat shotguns to make Xray lasers, steal them all.
Also the faggot miners who, when you ask them for just THREE BARS of uranium and gold, say "there's a blob, fuck off I have better things to do!"

I latejoined an hour and twenty minutes into the round. #2 was braindead and I dragged him aboard. The hand tele was literally dropped right outside arrivals shuttle. And the atmos tech didn't even get on the escape shuttle.
Easiest traitor round ever.
There was an Infamous thread a while back when a guy wanted a bigger hard drive and was asking where good place to get one was.
He accidentally pressed N instead of B and got instantly permabanned.
Not as bad as the thread someone made where he got autobanned for saying "I told him to stick it in her purse"
Stick it in her being an autoban for god knows what reason

Unlockables is a terrible idea.
Except maybe like a hat. Something that has literally no effect whatsoever, and can be easily stolen.
The only time I could ever possibly support unlockables is if they had no effect on the game at all and were just joke items and jobs. Unlockable shit and SS13 really, really does not mesh IMO.
Sorry, I didn't make it clear enough that I agree with you that karma system won't work perfectly. In the last post I'm just saying admins should have other punishment options.
I've also never said that the karma system should replace admins.

Er, he's actually right though, TTT karma is absolutely completely undeniably incompatible with SS13, so that's an awful comparison. SS13 is waaaaay more complex than TTT, they really aren't comparable in depth in any way
Also did you consider that using text speech is a bannable offense in /tg/ for a reason? They don't want that shit there, it's lazy and out of place
SS13 is like a representation of modern day society. Medical is never efficient enough, shit is always broken and engineering is always busy fixing the wrong things, the heads/government does shit all but cause more problems usually, the hard working people always get shafted by the people who dont want to do anything (greys), and the police force is too slow or uses excessive violence.
Then you have your religous wackjobs (cult), terrorists (traitor/syndie/nukeops), murderers (traitors, wizards, anybody), or braindead idiots.
Try as everyone does the outcome is usually the same.
I absolutely love using double agents who have completed their task as emergency security officers.
Implant them, offer them a deal and tell them they are now tasked with eliminating antags off the records.
Its a shame it doesn't work too well with normal traitors. It makes me wish security borgs were still part of hippie/atlas (Even having it limited to one sec Borg shell locked in the armory and making them unbuildable any other way) would make it a better alternative to executing/perma/regular borging
Especially when security is always lacking in numbers.
Do people still consider TG shit? I've not had any problems on the server for a few months now.

Also minor griefing is part of the game. Obviously it's no fun if every round some idiot releases the singularity/bombs half the station/spaces every patient when he's not an antag but that's what we have admins for.
Do people still consider TG shit? I've not had any problems on the server for a few months now.
Highly objective term. For me /tg/ went to shit when I realized coders who made fuck ups didn't fix their mistakes and more or less wielded their power to make changes THEY not WE wanted. Further down the down they've more or less have become a hybrid of Bay and Goon and it's slowly loosing what makes it /tg/ and more of weird hybrid of /tg/,Bay, and Goon code.
Playing security on Hippie is so stressful holy fuck. Everyone is committing crimes left and right and thinking they can get away with it, it's great.

hippie has too many greytiders, why even bother. I once got sec jobbanned for killing some assistants when I thought it was rev just because of the sheer amount of greytiders.

Why does it do this when I get into a pod. how do i fix this.
I'll admit the greytiding is obscene and nothing is done about it on Hippie. I walked into Cargo earlier tonight and watched as several people quickly murderboned some random dude then proceeded to split off and attack the nearest people to them. They tried nabbing my axe to get me with it and once I escaped the clown actually ran after me with a kitchen knife before I robusted him.
About 20 minutes afterwards we got the Delta alert for rogue AIs. No rhyme or reason behind the several murders in Cargo either, which was pretty frustrating. Annoying to have to worry not only about antags but about random one-namers or dumb "dindu-nuffins"/"syndicate-agents"

Pods have an extra row of options, which stretches the screen up a bit. You either have to deal with it, or change the icon size to 'scale' instead.

This is why hippie needs Sec borgs back...
Even if you have to print out a module and apply it to the bo, this modle being in a lockbox openable by the HoS or Warden.
Standard borgs are ghetto security borgs anyways
Why do new players always go into robotics? I don't mind teaching them but it's pretty fucking tedious when they waste materials building mechs we don't have a need for or even have the boards for yet and then fuck off to go braindead in a locker somewhere.

Because "MUH ROBUTS MUH MECHS", essentially. It helps that it's a fairly easy job too.
Am I one of the only people on here that actually likes the "Space Marines" server?
When things come together rounds can actually get really fucking crazy. I've been Commander twice, and both times things got completely unhinged in the best way possible.

It's alright for a round or two but imo it quickly becomes a xeno vs. human deathmatch and loses its appeal after a few rounds.

Because on /tg/'s wiki it's listed as the one 'Easy' job that doesn't look boring to new players
Facepunch, what would you say makes someone "robust"?
I like this hardsuit system: http://wiki.baystation12.net/index.php/Hardsuit
They didn't remove the old ones, just renamed em to void suits, So nothing was lost.
