all ss13 players are guilty until proven innocent
Goonstation has a great adminbase, the rules are not restrictive, but they are enforced to the letter.
Rules say no metagaming? Be a dick all round! slip people! take their clothes! Hide their ID in a random cupboard... but kill a guy cos he hurt you last round and you are out that door, no warnings, no second chances do not pass go do not collect 200 pounds.
I am going to tell you this, if you like playing ss13 be utterly sure you are prepared to deal with the exact opposite of what you want an ss13 player to be like because that shit will occur all the time.
SS13 id s prime breeding ground for griefing and because of an ill defined line between greifing and standard play, hatred brews. It brews and brews and brews until outbursts of utter terribleness occur. Did you ever get involved with the tf2 unsrs servers? It's liek that on steroids, every problem an unsrs server had, people not getting it, shit-heads trying their best to subvert the rules, admins forgetting their duties and treating the place as their personal playground or just not giving a shit and just being players without admining at all.
In ss13 this is magnified by 30 times and it has a good element of creativity, a creative element attracts a lot of people, and the worst of that crop has been given several names over the years. Gmod Mingebags for example, greyshits are basically mingebags MKII with judicious levels of braindead memeposting.
Admining an SS13 server requires near full time attention at all times, what woith the code being temperamental and servers, griefers notwithstanding, require round the clock attention to actually function.
If you are not prepared to put in the work and dedication to what amounts to a small company, give it a miss.
That's sadly the culture that ss13 has developed for itself though.
Griefing is easy, so much so that you can screw people's rounds over from the word go, even if you don't really understand how the play the game. Its not hard to run up a toolbox someone in the head (plenty of new players do end up killing people through testing stuff like this)
If you know what you're doing its not hard to ruin a round for everyone. The inherent greyness of the rules and situations works in favor of assholes, and as a result of the small total community size, drama between people is more magnified and noticeable.
There's a reason why there is so much spessman drama, regardless of the specific groups involved. SS13 seems to attract a range of people, some good, others not so much. Unfortunately the people the people who are seen the most tend to be big shitters/people who love to start shit.

p.s stress test
[editline]a[/editline]
P.S believe me when I say I know what I am getting into, I am not new to this.
On a more upbeat note, what exactly are your plans for the server looking forwards?
I mean you already have one up on most other startup servers (a background community to draw from) but what do you actually plan on doing?
HeavyRP? LightRP?
Baycode? /tg/code?
etc.

Depends on stress test results among other things. Most things I'll just put to a vote. Regardless, this is just a fun project for me, so if people are trying to be dramalamma's, I have lots of experience with them unfortunately/fortunately. If they complain on FP I won't be responding to them I'll tell you that. :v:
SS13 is learning to swim in an ocean of shit.
SS13 is learning to swim in an ocean of shit.
And learning to not get pissed when you inevitably get some of that shit in your mouth.
I think my ideal server configuration would probably be a relatively simple version of TGstation emphasizing medium/heavy RP, but set in a version of the canon that allows for and explains for the appropriate amount of griff, honk, and stupid to allow for fun.

AND MY CHARACTERS RESET AGAIN
Now i forgot what the settings for some of them were, damn

The canon doesn't really need to explain the madness, it really exists to both flesh out why the station exists, and also to provide an insane level of juxtaposition from why the station exists and what actually happens.
It's why Bay gets it so so wrong, the tedium is supposed to be the average working day that slowly descends into madness, not to be a second job where you occasionally get killed by some monologuing alien.
Stress test went fine, almost no lag! Server is still up, I will restart it in about an hour.
So I had a big thing of pro's/cons associated with each codebase but I accidentally backspaced and it was all deleted. Oh well. Please vote, remember there will be another vote for serious, semi-serious or light roleplay later on.
Useful - Baystation 12 Code
Optimistic - TG Station Code
Biggest points are baycode has better moderation tools (NOT game tools) and is slower gameplay, with more in-depth systems.
TG station is faster gameplay and more designed for quick rounds.

Can we have hippie code
Can we have hippie code
It's TG code w/o the shit.
It's TG code w/o the shit.
would there be a way to have hippiecode but with goofchem? if that's possible, there should be a rating vote if we want to have it or not.

This may or may not have been an accident.
My favorite part is the captain assuming it was me testing a bomb, even though I didn't say anything.(We had someone bombing the station before I even tested my first bomb.)

I don't know where to find hippie code, I am able to find a 7 month old version but nothing new. If you know where I can get it or how to modify to at least make it similar that would be great.
[editline]a[/editline]
Also restarted the world for stress test no. 2

Thanks, I'll recast the vote now.
Optimistic = Baystation 12
Useful = TGstation 13
Informative = Hippestation
Artistic = Atlasstation
I'm going to install it right now and test it on the server, it'll be back up in about 45 minutes or so, maybe sooner.
words
You also can use Atlas stations code if you wish, It's is based off Hippie stations code with a few additions.

Accidentally disarmed a monkey cause it was selected
It beat me into crit
Stumble over to medbay without being able to speak
Nobody fucking helps me
I die
Goon sure is nice

Added to vote.
Also added hippiestation to stress test and is starting now.

Crashed already, good start

Protip: if you anger a monkey then choke it to death, they can't do anything with your hand around their neck and they won't try and break loose.
Also depending on how far into the round things are/how saturated medbay is with antags pretty much dictates how much doctors will actually work.
hippiestation crashes like a bitch, trying atlas now
hippiestation crashes like a bitch, trying atlas now
Does DD give you any logs after it crashes?

I didn't get the chance cause it was basically bashing my head in with a floor tile :v:
Someone even fucking walked up to my body on the floor, played his fucking saxophone and left me to die
Also people in medbay were just running around continously walking past me
I've been thinking of crowd funding money and using it to pay for specific fixes and additional content for Hippie.
A small percentage goes to the server but majority goes to the coder as an insentive.
What do you guys think?

Solid way to make coders not work unless they get paid.

Sums up the game pretty well.

Crystal and RR did some updates to drawing pixels onto canvases today. Can't wait for someone to draw goatse all over the station.
What kind of roleplay would you like to see?
Informative = Serious
Optimistic = Semi-serious
Useful = Light
Stresso Testo no. 4 byond://107.170.91.118:36838
P.S, Hippiestation won the vote, but atlas doesn't crash and is literally the same thing with a few more features... unless somebody has a complaint then I'll do that.
