I dunno, man. I've seen a few people who really seem to take it seriously.
There's always a few who take satiric memes far enough to make them un-ironic, just look at MLP.
There's always a few who take satiric memes far enough to make them un-ironic, just look at MLP.
Demisexual used to be a joke founded on Urban dictionary or some shit like that last I heard... now people are actively identifying as it. Seems what with the proliferation of the internet the culture that was once created due to the division between reality and the digital world has begun to overbleed. I have heard people say "LoL" outloud in lieu of actual laughter. In SS13 we look down on people who type out acronyms because the idea is saying them out loud sounds silly but the way language is going thanks to the internet who knows, perhaps people WILL talk in txtspk.
Uhhhh is Hippie down?
Were still looking for admins, only 2 out of 21 applicants have passed the initial test, so you have a pretty high chance! We have also increased the limit to either 1000 posts or 2 years. Apply here.
like seriously, the first server that has an automatic deathmatch arena for ghosts to fight in, is the server i move to permanently fuck dying to a ling 2 minutes in and getting spaced and being essentially taken out of the game

The standards are actually quite fair in that regard. I have to be absolutely sure that whomever is chosen to be an admin is able to do their job. This is SS13 after all. The hardest part is trailmin, after that it's fairly smooth sailing. Of course, I supply short necessary training to not be a shitty admin. For this sake, I have finalized the actual process to being an admin. 1. Apitutde Test (in groups of 5) 2. Interview (Short interview to determine you can actually do the job) 3. Gameplay Test (Session to determine that you are able to administrate in sample situations) 4. Trailmin (A period of time that you are given limited powers to determine if you can administrate an actual server.) 5. Peer review (People from the forum give their opinions on your skill-level and if you are improving or just being shitty.) 6. Vote of Succession (A vote to determine your skill-level and if you succeeded trailmin, done by other admins) 7. Congrats! I personally think it's better then just a written application and trailmin and done - too easy for people who could easily be not right for the job to get in just because they acted real nice during trailmin. It has too be regulated to some extent. It's really up to the administrator if a murder was justified or not.

Do not go down that route. "Hey can you tell me why you're killing that dude as a traitor???"
Do not go down that route. Unrelated note but I've only been playing goonstation for a little while and I figured out how to make Killer Tomatoes, shame I rolled bartender the round I finally had my strategy pinned down but I helped the botanist who shared my line of thinking to make them. See I thought they were only going make one or two... I killed 50 of the bastards before I went down.
See I think we may have over stated the perils of an SS13 server, but if the end result is only the cream of the crop admins then by all means.
Completing an aptitude test, an interview, and a gameplay test ALL before you are even put on trial to see if you could potentially be an admin is ridiculous and won't produce cream of the crop admins. It will produce elitist douchebags who know the game inside and out. [editline]Edited: [/editline] Or just people who are chummy with the other admins / Skeeve and get past all the ridiculousness due to personal bias.
if I were you, I'd just pick from your gut feeling and just remove any who can't do their job. it's not like they're there to stay after doing your complicated process to become an admin, they can always be removed

Peer review is good when combined with your own research, but sometimes people might just like the guy because he does admin-events or is funny, when in reality causes a lot of problems for other players. It's a system that hasn't worked and I put to the test a long time ago. You can easily stay in a position of power and a head administrator would never notice. If a lot of regulars like you and just a few newbies don't then it will look like to a head administrator that hes doing a good job. It's basically just a different system then applications. Trial through combat isn't always the answer. Sure, its a 2D-spessman game. But we want to have fun playing it. Although the system may seem daunting, it's actually very easy to get through. It's a series of quick tests designed to make sure you can deal with situations the way we want too before possibly being influenced the wrong way. Were not getting experts at administrating here, were getting random people to admin a currently non-existent in terms of population server. We need to weed out the bad from the good before we open the server up.

I don't know why you think yours is special because it's ten times longer than other applications.

I don't know why you think yours is special because it's ten times longer than other applications.
It's not drawn out, and it doesn't take 10 times longer. You maybe have to put an hours work into aptitude and tests combined, then do regular server administrating review like all servers. A gameplay test does not determine how good you are at the game, it's for administration - so you are given powers and told to deal with a situation using the powers. It doesn't effect you in anyway except slightly inconvenience those who take it. The whole thing really is not that big of a deal. Again, we are dealing with people I have no idea who they are. I find this allows me to find people who aren't regulars, and actually finds LESS elitest people since they don't need to be part of the community for months on end to be accepted. Do you just want me to trialmin all 35 people who applied? No obviously not, and everybody had very similar responses to the written portion (excluding jokes) so it's very likely a much larger batch would have been chosen.

Give the player a few items to help him combat the traitor and send them in. So the traitor has killed the counter agent and now %60 of the station... send in two counter agents. Once the counter agents and all the station are dead, send in three more counter agents. If little miss murderbone kills them all send them a message from the syndicate saying the congratulate them for the efforts and say they can leave now or strike a real blow to the heart of centcomm. If they agree send in the deathsquad... WITH mechs.

I think it's worth an experiment to see if that would work out well, or just end up with the whole station dead and not much game going on. Although for stuff like rev/cultist there is emergency response teams which are basically anti-syndicates and spawn from ghosts. (I don't know if hippie has that? I will add it if it doesn't.)

I don't know why that's so bad to you? I seriously hope you don't expect your (likely) 1 admin to go through this batch to admin your server 24/7 :v:.

It's unlikely the batch I have currently chosen is going to fail any administrative test, I have some confidence in them. You have to remember this isn't an established server, and I am picking people I don't really know very well. This application systems builds trust with the other admin when I don't know them very well. Usually in a community they require 3-5 months of playing on it so the admins know who you are and if your attitude matches that of an administrative. Trailmin is not a surefire way of getting a good administrator - previous tests of mine on other games have resolved that bad people can get through that system which was not the fault of the administrator at the time.
2D SPACE STATION SIMULATOR IS SERIOUS BUSINESS
you're really getting way too serious about some admins for a server that will probably last a month tops like all other facepunch servers
you're really getting way too serious about some admins for a server that will probably last a month tops like all other facepunch servers
I'm just responding to posts, I dunno. It takes me a very short time to write them, so I don't really care too much. I find it fun to do as well, keeps me busy. I honestly couldn't care less if people thought I was taking it too seriously. You guys are giving me way more credit then I deserve here. If I insulting people or attacking their personal character, then I would say we were taking this 2d spessman game too seriously. Friendly debates or a little effort is nothing to be ashamed of. If the server lasts a month, it's okay. It won't effect anybody except me, so stop worrying about my health!
Just had an amazing round on goon where my task as an assistant was to enforce as much unwieldy bureaucracy as possible. I set up a desk checkpoint at the door between arrivals and the bar, I used more tables to wall of the maint ducts that provided the only other way out. I stood with the grab intent such that nobody could pass by me without me moving or being knocked down. In the beginning it was hard, people just used chokes and disarms to stun me out the way, I prayed to the gods that they might bless this checkpoint of true bureaucracy. The gods heard me and they gave me a spare pen... then the mailmans hat, then some medical supplies because as of this point several people hat beaten their way past me. They then gave me the mailman suit and a flash. The Bureaucracy never ends. Anyone who tired to get past without signing got flashed and told to sign, they try to get around by using maint... but maint is blocked. In the end they all sign. All shall sign! One cargoman holds a grudge, tries to push past, gets flashed, brings a wrench and breaks my tables... nice try buttbot I have spare table parts, before he can finish breaking the second table the first is back. "FUCK YOU" he cries, I flash him and he runs off. Chef swings by, me and chef are bros, he brings me a herbal sausage laced with botany's finest "Produce". More new arrivals come by, "heeelllllooo, ppppleeeasssee, siiiigggn yyyyoooorrr naammmeee,,, jjjjjonbbbaaaaannnd tttime of arrrrival ttttttooo passsss." "What?" this goes on for a while before they write some gibberish on the paper... I don't care, my bureaucracy states I only need them to write something on a paper to pass. Cargodude comes by with a sec baton, pulls it out... stuns himself somehow, I take baton, thank him and drag him back to the bar. The checkpoint must go on. He comes back with boxing gloves, I remain my bureaucrat stance, I wait for him to hit me then I stun him, drag him back to the bar, throw him over the counter. Chef brought me a mini tart, I thank him. More bureaucracy, nobody messes with me, I have a baton and a flash my Bureaucracy IS LAW. Gloves quatermaster guy comes back, gets some hits it, I go down... I don't panic, I grab my trusty flash, flash him, follow up baton and throw him over the bar again, by which point is out of air... I care not, please fill out form hr-02. More arrivals, they all signs, all must sign. Quaterboxer returns, he punchers, bureaucracy gives no shits, new arrivals just watch an wait, I flash an baton him "HE MUST DIE" he yells, nobody helps him as I drag him back into the airless bar, MY BUREAUCRACY IS LAW! "Hello, please sign your name, job and time of arrival to pass." Everyone signs, they all sign. The shuttle is called, I hold my station, I will leave at the last second, bureaucracy must go on. Shuttle arrives, I head for escape and pray "I must spread my bureaucracy among the stars, the god reply "Go forth, you have done well this day." I exit the bar. Suddenly the quaterboxer returns, beats me a few times, I flash and stun... but I am in crit, I am slow and passing in and out of conciousness.. I pray, ask for medical assistance... I find a fully stocked medkit a few moments later, I patch myself up and run... but it's too late the shuttle left, try to get to the escape pods but they are gone... I find a faint hope, a miniputt is left where the pods were, I get in and fly, I fly as fast as I can. I send one last prayer "I escaped on a pod, My Bureaucracy will spread." [editline]10th June 2015[/editline] Also worth noting at some point one of the admins had spawned a 'light from above' on my checkpoint, thus proclaiming it's divinity.
is there a facepunch station?
is there a facepunch station?
Not really, there are server owners who post here though no (active) facepunch only/based servers. Discounting the server that's called facepunch, though it has no relation.
