Well in fallout 3 you could make a run for the dart gun schematics and build the strongest weapon in the game from the get go with 100 repair skill to make it near pristine right away.
Alternatively in the vanilla game you could bumrush to Minefield and get the Alien Blaster immediately, which is by far the strongest weapon in the game (although the lack of ammo contrarily to the dart gun makes it a bit inferior on a practical level).
A way to balance the weapon crafting to not be overpowered at all levels even with all crafting perks unlocked would have been to make the receiver upgrades (which carry the majority of the damage on most of the weapons) require schematics to be unlocked, and either put these schematics in tough parts of the world or in levelled lists so that you won't find the super-strong-death-dealer .44 receiver from the start.
Besides, having played a few characters with crafting available from the start, I can say that bar a few weapons, it doesn't really kill the game's balance (only exception being the laser musket, since that's a weapon which is built to last over an entire playthrough) since the gun progression is rapidly replaced by the legendary drops.
Legendary weapons still use the crafting system to make them stronger still.
You can only get those items in Fallout 3 by knowing where to go in advance, and sacrificing all your other skills including your damage one just to get the ability to craft the schematics, then you need to find ammo after, and this still doesn't require cheating.
A basic baseball bat in Fallout 4 can deal like 30 while a fully upgraded one can deal like 100. It's quite a substantial change at that level.
The fact is the game isn't made for you to get that powerful that early. Especially since you can double the resistance on Power Armor.
And like I said, not really min-maxing.
From my experience and what I've read power armor spawning is a mixture of scaling and luck.
You can be super high level (50+) and still get T60s spawn in half of the frames you find. Meanwhile, if you're lucky as fuck its entirely possible to find X-01 in your mid/high 20s, though its inadvisable to go loading cells with power armor spawns until level 30+ unless you want every frame to filled with T60s and T51s.
Level 38, then go to 35 Court, Mk III X-01 Suit there.
Level 38, then go to 35 Court, Mk III X-01 Suit there.
Is that guaranteed or just what you got?
Which is why I think it would have been better to base the strength of weapons on schematics you have to find or even magazines. Would have been neat if you could get magazines that added one additional tier of upgrade per mag instead of having a list of like ten upgrades right away.
The modding system is great except for the receivers which always look the same and are basically just straight upgrades with no further aesthetic change. I like the fact you can keep even the starting weapons up to an acceptable damage rate thanks to it but I feel like they could have done a bit more with it than give it all right away and hide it behind level restricted perks.
I mean hell, if anything they should have separated the crafting perk tiers between stuff that doesn't just outright increase damage (barrels, sights, muzzle, etc) and the receiver upgrades, so you can put perk points at any time without level restrictions into crafting but the damage related stuff come with level restrictions. That way you get to put cool sights and grips on your gun without necessarily being able to make it armor piercing and shit out huge damage at level 5.
Guaranteed, I wanted the full set but was only Level 33 so I got Mk II instead, but it's ALWAYS a full set past Level 30 I believe.

I've gone up there twice now and both times I've got a full set of X-01 Armour, provided you're over Level 30 you WILL get a full set of X-01 Armour.

Put out a quick set of new textures for the double barrel shotgun while waiting for the mod tools so I can implement actual new weapons.

Fallout 4 made me fall in love with power armor.

So for some reason my game has the exact same fps fluctuation regardless of the settings.
When in and around Diamond City, the game tanks to 30 fps. Around the main urban area of boston, I sometimes go as low as 20 fps. It's always in the same locations, and while I used to think this was caused by me running it all on Ultra, it turns out that the same shit happens even on low - same fps drops and everything.
Sometimes all it takes is turning around and looking at a specific spot and bam, went down from 60 to 25 fps as long as I look at this spot.
Any idea on what that could be ? Running enboost or changing settings doesn't alter it at all. Texture optimization mods don't do anything either. I have no idea what could possibly cause that kind of drop.

I went to Court 35 at level 39 and got a full suit of X-01 Mark III
It's a damn shame there's only 3 issues of Hot Rodder.
I know mods will add all sorts of power armor paint jobs, but I doubt they'll go through the effort of making the actual magazines that give you them. Which is a shame, because I really like all the unique magazine covers in this game. Finding them is just as much a treat to me as the perks they give.
How many bobby pins do you guys have? I'm up to 254.

Considering most of the mods for new vegas and fallout 3 at least put the weapons and such in various locations, rather than just dump them in the inventory, I wouldn't be surprised if people still ended up using magazines, or at least put the armor parts in a chest near vault 111.

Millenia over there turned Doc Mitchell's house into a damn armory, I wonder what he'll do for Fallout 4 :v:

Great work as always Millenia!
Just one question, do the _S maps follow some kind of standard? From what I understand they seem to be some kind of "material" mask more than a straight metalness/roughness/conventional map.
Also I see yours use yellows and greens while most of the vanilla textures I've seen use purples and blues how are the colors chosen?
Sorry if I'm being nosy but I'm not sure if this is some kind of industry standard map or if it's something Bethesda just came up with for Fallout.

Only red & green channels are used; red is specularity, green is glossiness. Works pretty much like Marmoset Toolbag 2 except spec is greyscale.
I'd love to have mods that just add painted parts for each gun mod. It'd make for pretty long lists but with UI mods it'll be fine.

Tell me, do you have Godrays on Medium by any chance?
Because those pixellated edges around your character is because of Godrays (set on Medium?) afaik, if you look closely.

even named items are randomly generated, it seems. i killed a legendary super mutant, got some neat as fuck laser rifle off him, forgot to quicksave and then died. killed him again and i got stuck with some bullshit pipe pistol.
unless you're talking about shit like "kellogg's pistol" or "shem drowne sword" then yeah those are specific because they're quest rewards.

pretty sure i have god rays turned off.
pretty sure i have god rays turned off.
It cannot be..
Cuz I remember wondering where the fuck those pixellated edges came from myself, and fixed it by disabling Godrays that were set on Medium. But I could be wrong.
Considering the amount of stupidly highly detailed piles of gore you can find I wonder how fast it'll take for someone to change the plasma weapons goo effect into straight up instagib gore piles.

Thanks man, it suddenly all makes sense!
Finally we can control both with a map in a Bethesda game, this should open up a lot of option to make really good looking textures in game!
Now we just need the GECK and to be able to import/export nif files to really have fun with it.

yeah i checked, they're on low. just turned them off now.
Also talk about those gore piles, and sacks of meat, it makes my skin crawl when I walk around Super Mutant "settlements" looking at how apparently they really like to ruin some people's days.
Why the fuck are supermutants so keen on having all of this shit lying around anyway ?
What a lovely couple

Well, if you were ever bothered by the pixellated edges around some objects, then yeah it's a good idea to turn Godrays off.
Or just set them to Ultra/High and see if it's less pixellated, but it might leave a dent on performance.
