I know pathfinding would be a huge issue, but damn do I wish there was a way to have a caraven of sort to go from settlement to settlement (or any unlocked locations like vertibirds) while you just kick back and sit, and can choose to jump out if you get attacked or something. Vertibird rides are cool and all but I'd love this so much more (if it worked well ingame).
What the game needs is some kind of management table where you can see all you settlers, what settlement they're in, and what job they have. It'd be nice if you could also designate areas like paths or defensive positions, or even a place people go to relax. There's no point in building ramparts or a lounge if no one ever uses them.
So I decided to begin settling places proper, and I got a bit carried away with Hangman's alley. Here is the fruits of my labour, in glorious toaster quality! [t]http://i.imgur.com/Az8fhfg.jpg[/t] The main entrance. [t]http://i.imgur.com/zP9Y1MV.jpg[/t] View of the courtyard from one of the upper rooms. [t]http://i.imgur.com/91Qjiwk.jpg[/t] Part of the slum housing. Turns out rugs can work as roofing in a pinch, you can even walk along the top. [t]http://i.imgur.com/xTrTDWb.jpg[/t] The best house in Hangman's alley. You have to pass under this to get through the entrance. [t]http://i.imgur.com/o1SU9oq.jpg[/t] View of the courtyard and stairs, from the tiny balcony of the entrance house. The fast travel waypoint is here.
I absolutely love how you can make your own shots in this game with console commands. People keep recommending I up my luck stat to either 9 or 10 ASAP. Is it really that worthwhile?
People keep recommending I up my luck stat to either 9 or 10 ASAP. Is it really that worthwhile?
It can be. Critical Banker is an incredibly helpful perk that doesn't rely on RNG, and the others can be handy in a pinch.
Can you get critical hits outside of VATS or do laser weapons just randomly vaporise people when they die?
Say what you will about the Railroad, but they got cool theme music.
Can you get critical hits outside of VATS or do laser weapons just randomly vaporise people when they die?
Critical hits are VATS only when you activate them, at least as far as anything that cares about crit effects is concerned Headshots and sneak attacks might be considered "criticals" in your stat screen but they aren't really. Crits = vats activated crits only.
[sp]There's only a single one, at Saugus Ironworks. It's a unique weapon.[/sp]
nah man, got this one from a subway filled with super mutants [t]http://i.imgur.com/R0eUJk8.png[/t]
I may well be alone in this but since the second Fallout I've been hoping for an opportunity to play either a ghoul or super mutant, and since starting Fallout 4 and finding all the super mutant armour sets I've loved the idea of 'alternate start' DLC to that effect. Imagine being able to start a new playthrough dumped into the wasteland in a new location, waking up in an FEV vat as a newly created mutant or crawling out of a subway tunnel as a pre-war ghoul from an underground shelter. Cut out the main questline, maybe replace it with one for the new races and bring back some voice actors to adjust NPC reactions to your character and you're in business, the same big wasteland to explore but from a new perspective. New perks to get buffs from radiation exposure, maybe ghouls could even have a second health bar from radiation exposure and lower HP to reflect their squishiness. Good chance to bring back the mutant size power armour from Fallout 2 as well.
Can you get critical hits outside of VATS or do laser weapons just randomly vaporise people when they die?
They just randomly vaporise when they die. Same for plasma weapons and goo-ification, and whether a body part blows up or not seems fairly random as well. I finally managed to romance Curie. It took forever but I finally managed to do it and I am so happy, she's the cutest [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CVLjMVeUsAAdkDc.png[/t] So many side quests. So worth it.
Huh, thicket excavations had an interesting outcome, if not predictable in retrospect. [sp]When the raiders move in. Sort of expected to find Mathis' dismembered corpse in a barrel or something, but then you get to the bottom of the pit and it turns out he's just the (naked) leader of the raider group[/sp] [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline]
Can you get critical hits outside of VATS or do laser weapons just randomly vaporise people when they die?
Think it depends how much "over-damage" there was I notice if I fire a long burst and a few of them hit the dead corpse as it goes down, they tend to vaporize.
I'm with the BoS and kill Synths on sight but I still romanced Curie because I'm a fucking hypocrite.
Curie actually seems to like the BoS (except for the whole killing synths business). I suppose you could justify it that Curie doesn't believe that she's a real human. She's perfectly aware that she's a pre-war medical AI.
only problem is, as you yourself pointed out, voice actors. ain't no way a modder is going to hire the voice actors they had the for main game, and people not reacting to you being a damned super mutant would be damn strange
Oh yeah, even if a modder did get voice actors there's every chance they would be dodgy even beyond bethesda levels. But I envisioned this as an official DLC purely for that reason, knowing it's wishful thinking. I just think it would be a great way of re-jigging the mechanics enough that you'd get replay value even from the original content, seeing how quests would play out if a super mutant became the guardian of Sanctuary, or if a ghoul somehow managed to join the BOS.
When did this happen? Was it always here or a mod I installed? [thumb]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/396677947584529310/0BFAA1ACE6A509E27EE0EB9AD2A741144EFC4CE5/[/thumb]
It's christmas in-game time.
The only person I wish you could try to romance would be X6-88 (even though he'd probably be like "I am for killing, not for loving")

How are people attaching light bulbs to power wires? I can't get it to work.
How are people attaching light bulbs to power wires? I can't get it to work.
iirc you need to attach the wire to a connector on the same tile, and the lightbulb will automatically light up despite not being actually wired. edit: I have to say, the most irritating enemy in this game by far is the fucking bloodbug / bloatfly, they do shit tons of damage and its really hard to hit them without vats, let alone deal with groups of them, I have died more times by fucking bloodbugs than by any other enemy in this game, and its so irritating.
Bloodbugs are the sole reason I made a shotgun with as great of spread as possible. Duck hunting logic. Small, agile target, so hitting it at ALL is more important than precision.
Bloodbugs are the sole reason I made a shotgun with as great of spread as possible. Duck hunting logic. They're relatively weak, and require to get near you to hurt you, so even without vats they're easy to kill. Boatflies however...
Man, i can't wait for the F4 hardcore mods. Playing through TTW again with hard hardcore settings and mods and damn i can barely survive. Having to eat radroaches (and sometimes ghoul flesh) and drink from toilets to keep myself from dying of starvation, having to constantly pay doctors to heal my rads because they hit hard now and to heal my limbs before they get infected and barely managing to scavenge some raider campo to get enough gear to maybe trade for a bunch of bullets because merchants are merciless now, that kind of fun stuff. Basically some wasteland bear grylls but without the "alright that's enough take me to the hotel now" card.
Considering how good some survival mods for Skyrim like Frostfall are, I think Fallout 4's survival mods are going to be great. In the end, we'll probably have been better off without a Bethesda-created survival mode. Really looking forward to them, they made Skyrim a lot more interesting.
I think the current scrap system is a good base for some really good crafting mods.
only problem is, as you yourself pointed out, voice actors. ain't no way a modder is going to hire the voice actors they had the for main game, and people not reacting to you being a damned super mutant would be damn strange
It was the same way for every race mod in every Bethesda RPG. You get used to it. Alternatively you can go the way any real FEV nightmare would and just kill people before they have a chance to talk to you.
I really, really, want UI overhaul mods. The settlement building is downright painful.
How are people attaching light bulbs to power wires? I can't get it to work.
According to Reddit the only way is to use the modpos command.
