I have issues with the UI inside the Pipboy too, but I didn't make the post about that.
Edited for clarity. [editline]23rd November 2015[/editline] Well yeah, I have issues with the UI inside the Pipboy too, but I didn't post about that.
You not using power armor is a challenge you've imposed on yourself, Bethesda didn't make the UI shitty to challenge players they made the UI shitty because they don't know how to make a good one.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Peripheral vision. Assuming that every time you use a pipboy your character literally looks down on it, your view of the Pipboy is the same as their vision of it. So if you had the pipboy screen take up the entire screen that means the character's eyes have to be literally glued to the screen. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] aaaand I'm late
Why can't we favourite armour and clothing and have them be starred and appear at the top of the list? Search thing applies to favourited weapons. They should appear at the top.
even something like skyui that just changes the display on the pipboy to be more useful and less scroll-intensive would be great
This, I keep forgetting to empty my misc tab and if I pick up any recording, I need to memorize the name and scroll through tons of shit to find anything.
Why can't we favourite armour and clothing and have them be starred and appear at the top of the list? Search thing applies to favourited weapons. I have an apparel that adds 3 CHA for when I make Speech checks, but takes off ALL my armor pieces and is a huge pain in the ass to put them back on.
And a good part of that guy's article about the map is because, despite the fact that he's playing on a PC, he's refusing to use a keyboard and mouse.
The map is not great, I've had trouble hovering over a quest mark or fast travel location because there was something close by that was getting priority for some reason. Also had trouble a few times to get a custom marker into the city area, because of the stupid lock on thing that serves absolutely nothing for those using M+KB. Overall I feel like the Kotaku article was a bit too aggressive, making it seem like he was giving it unnecessary hate or being a little bit nitpicky, but almost all of his gripes have some merit. That said, he forgot to add the Rad counter to his "Actual info" graph. Also why are you people being so black and white about this? There's no reason why it can't be immersive and fitting with the whole Fallout aesthetic while still being as viable as SkyUI.
and thats 100% ok i'm cool with the thought of my character squeezing his face into the pipboy if it means i get a really functional and easy to navigate ui
Well I'm not, so it's a matter of debate. Plus I don't see how making the screen bigger would make it more functional or easier to navigate.
The fact that increasing the fov to a playable amount also makes the pipboy uncomfortably small (zooming in does barely anything) bugs me.

In Skyrim, do you think your character just gazed up to the stars, straight through a ceiling of solid rock and earth, whenever you leveled up? Or were you able to accept that it was just an aesthetic used to bring you to the level up/perk selection menu?

[editline]24th November 2015[/editline] aaaand I'm late
I'm already a foot from my computer screen, I don't need to be another food from my pipboy to feel immersed.
Also why are you people being so black and white about this? There's no reason why it can't be immersive and fitting with the whole Fallout aesthetic while still being as viable as SkyUI.
Classic Facepunch I guess. We are in agreement about that.
Also why are you people being so black and white about this? There's no reason why it can't be immersive and fitting with the whole Fallout aesthetic while still being as viable as SkyUI.
Yeah, I think it was Darnified UI for 3/NV that really fixed that up for me. Being able to see a lot more stuff on the pipboy was a godsend.
Well I'm not, so it's a matter of debate. Plus I don't see how making the screen bigger would make it more functional or easier to navigate.
You don't see how being able to see larger text and more of it could possibly be helpful?
Why did I never see this Pip-boy argument in 3 or New Vegas?
what everyone complained about F3 UI. and some more when they didn't changed it in NV. and some more when skyrim also had a terrible UI. there's a reason the UI mods are the most downloaded in all three games people are rolling up the bad UI as an "endearing" bethesda feature now like bad main quests but unlike writing fixing the UI ain't that goddamn hard. and it's fair to ask for a better UI in F4 when they fixed so many of their past problems but let this one (that people are complaining about since the first teaser announcing F4 with gameplay bits on it) You don't have to defend the UI just because you like the game. The game is good despite it being a mess and not because it is the way it is.
Why can't we favourite armour and clothing and have them be starred and appear at the top of the list? Search thing applies to favourited weapons. They should appear at the top.
You should be able to create favourite armour "groups" because of the whole layered armour thing. I even tried to have the Hazmat suit favourited but it proved to be just as clunky because after using it I had to go equip 7 different items again anyway. Also drop the damned favourite slots thing, just do what SkyUI (once again) did.
Yeah, I think it was Darnified UI for 3/NV that really fixed that up for me. Being able to see a lot more stuff on the pipboy was a godsend.
Bethesda already took a lot of hints from popular mods within their prior games. I don't see why they couldn't take a hint from a modified UI. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel.
I'm already a foot from my computer screen, I don't need to be another foot from my pipboy to feel immersed.
Did you just read what I just said? In first person games the edges of the screen is almost always the peripheral vision, I'm about the same length away from my screen and I can see the objects surrounding my screen in my peripheral.
You don't see how being able to see larger text and more of it could possibly be helpful?
Making the text larger doesn't leave much space for more of it. It's one or the other.
Why did I never see this Pip-boy argument in 3 or New Vegas? [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/s5tmP1.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/yvjFMd.jpg[/t] We've actually gained an extra row for displaying items, and the right shows more useful information too. (Ignore Value/Wt, that's the result of a mod fucking up text)
Just yesterday I was showing off the pipboy mods people proffered that showed off more, most people who modded NV/3 added a UI mod for sure.

And radiation before that point was still pretty much pointless anyway. Was Bethesda really so intent on making sure that radiation was a complete and total non-issue? Were they really this uninterested in variable difficulty based on radiation?
Your viewpoint on this debate absolutely confounds me.
Aesthetics should never take precedence over function in regards to gameplay. Fun and function should always come first.
Christ. Well, you're in the right place at least. Bethesda sure knows its fanbase.... :disappoint:

I can more or less live with the pipboy UI, but give me a goddamn UI for managing settlers and supply lines in settlements. I hate that I have a 18 people in Sanctuary Hills, and only 5 of them are farming, one is on a supply line, a couple are merchants, and the other 10 are seemingly MIA. And even is you bring everyone (which rarely happens, only about half the people show up) to one place with a bell, there's no way of telling what they're all assigned to before they all scatter to the wind.
holy shit idiot savant is 100 times worse as a male character
I do have to admit, the armor tab could be handled better.
you can have both actually
Not if you wanted to change one of them by a huge margin, otherwise the change is minimal on both sides. Anyway my point still stands that that doesn't make it more functional or any easier to use, just more readable
Why is the Hazmat suit something the player picks up within a couple hours of leaving Sanctuary...that can be bought for like 200 caps. Were they really this uninterested in variable difficulty based on radiation?
Well, you still have to equip the hazmat suit to avoid radiation, which means you lose mostly all of your protection and any stat bonuses. Not to mention that you can get rad damage from things that you're not really going to be wearing any rad protection from, like getting attacked by ghouls or other irradiated enemies.

Like a cleaner font, and fitting more stuff on screen is a godsend. Also, thats the other issue I have with the pipboy in 4 is how much scrolling you actually have to do. In 3/NV you could just click on the bottom what tab you wanted from that group (so for example in that screen the maps, quests, radio, and misc). In 4 you have to go through all of them to get to the one you want, or at least half the list to be able to click on the others.
