Does the release time only affect digital copies? I got my vigilante edition and can play just fine. Thanks, Ubisoft.

Sucks to hear that. I just preordered it to give it a try, despite the large difference in opinions I managed to get it for free by trading in some crap I literally never use to Gamestop. I don't have the time to download the leak on my connection nor do I want to, despite having thoughts about how well it will run. I have an i5-760, 16GB of RAM and a GTX480 so I'd say we're about equivalent and I was hoping to run it on like Medium at least and play it. AC IV ran at like ~50 FPS for me on like all high if I remember correctly but I can understand that this game takes a bit more of a toll being more open.
Preload not available in U-Play yet.
At least it's now showing up on my library when I check it on my smartphone.

I've been on the hype train for this for a while, and now i'm considering pre-ordering it on steam for the bonuses, but to the people who have already played the game, is it worth the price?

Nvidia posted a very in-depth guide to graphical settings, including interactive comparisons for all the big ones, performance comparisons (though those were done on a Dual Titan system, so e.g. Ultra vs High textures had no effect), and even config file tweaks. Well worth the read even if (like me) you're on AMD:

The general consensus seems to be that it's a dissapointment but is worth a play through
the invading stuff looks pretty cool but i hate how the other person instantly dissapears after it's completed, sorta ruins the immersion.

People with realistic expectations love it
Nobody knows how online play ends up since nobody has really played it, and nobody has played with the Day 1 patch since it hasn't been released yet
So basically try asking again in 1-2 days when online play and day 1 patch are involved where people actually have a clue how the game plays as its supposed to be played.
So if it is on uplay, is preloading on steam going to do anything? I'm not really sure how these things work regarding this strange cross "platform" (don't know the better term for it) releases where it uses uplay and steam.

I chalk most of the overly negative opinions up to the anti-hype circle jerk that goes on these days surrounding every AAA release, mostly the especially high profile ones, I am still pretty excited, but I don't allow myself to get uber hyped for games really, so maybe that's why I am still wanting to play it. I am not going into it thinking that it's game of the year all years material, but a hopefully very very fun game to play lots.
From what I can tell it's just the average Fast Threads Heroes doing their usual I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD WHAT A DISAPPOINTING GAME YOU AAA LOVING SHEEP spiel they always do, everything thus far seems to be pointing to exactly what a lot of us felt, a very enjoyable, not shallow, but not 20/10 GOTYAY open world techy hacky nonsense game, which is what I wanted.

It's a console release, so it will run average. PC version with so many different rigs and drivers is where changes in performance will happen. Console stuff is stable, but the quality might be slightly lower than what you could get on PC.
It's the same for basically every game ever on consoles.
