No it was free play on the spot crime discovery. So pretty much even better.
No it was free play on the spot crime discovery. So pretty much even better.
It is probably more accurate to say it is a scripted representation of an on the spot crime discovery. I doubt the actual game will be as smooth and set up as that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Watch Dogs is like THE #1 launch title for the PS4, right? Because I'm fairly certain I heard my wallet quietly crying as I saw that gameplay video.
Pc release is most likely in early 2014, and for PS4 it's 2013.

Wait wait, really? Holy shit that's amazing.
I hope you can fuck with random people in the game, like make their phone explode or something.
Hot off the press. PC box art. I tweeted Jonathan Morin, asking him exactly how dynamic will Watch Dogs be? This was the response: "I said it many times :) Unprecedented Dynamism"
So many fantastic news about this game. Last time I was so hyped was when Far Cry 3 was nearing it's release. That didn't dissapoint, I hope this one won't too. [editline]22nd February 2013[/editline]
In all seriousness, if this is going to have a similar mechanic, I hope there's an option to disable it, because there's nothing more immersive then having "XxC0P4C4PK1LLA_1337xX has connected" popping up after finishing a story essential quest in a singleplayer game.
Reminds me of my experience in Mercenaries 2 (yeah, I actually bought that game). I didn't even know stuff like that can happen. After some mission - whoop, some guy runs around, shooting shit. I was like what the fuck man, so I immediately closed the game in shock.
I just hope it doesn't turn into skyrim's radiant quests where everything tries to be different but ends up the same. If the "missions" and npc reactions are indeed dynamic and they take advantage of the world it could turn out for some very fun moments. Now on the other hand if every chase is the same it will get stale fast. Maybe if the npc has no gun but there's a cop nearby he will attempt to steal cop's gun or maybe use a pedestrian as meat shield or something. If you're chasing another hacker maybe he could dynamically use his hackings to run away or stop you. That would be the kind of shit if pulled off would result in great fun. The environment from what I've seen looks very atmospheric and immersive, hopefully AI only contributes to that.

Pants shittingly awesome.
I hope you can fuck with random people in the game, like make their phone explode or something.
Like one guy in this thread said, I hope they add the ability to hack into those giant electronic advertisement signs you'd see in big places and display pictures or messages on them, just to fuck with whoever you're intruding. Imagine just walking along and then seeing the words "I'm watching you..." slowly slide by on an electronic ad.

So is this coming out around the same time as GTA V?
Because you know, we need to make the game worth the $80 so let's cram some shitty multiplayer feature in to ruin the game for anyone who wants a single-player experience's fun. In all seriousness, if this is going to have a similar mechanic, I hope there's an option to disable it, because there's nothing more immersive then having "XxC0P4C4PK1LLA_1337xX has connected" popping up after finishing a story essential quest in a singleplayer game.
Except that can't happen in Dark Souls, you have to be a human to get invaded, I'm sure there will be a similar way to avoid having people join your game. Whining about a feature that adds to the game and can be disabled is pointless.
The scene we saw on the 20th was a sidequest right? If so I'm more hyped.
No, what we saw was a random dynamic event.

If Jonathan Morin confirming that it will be a simultaneous release across all platforms wasn't enough I also got a reply from the official Watch Dogs twitter account so I think we can dismiss the PCGamesN article. It could still be delayed, but atleast we know they're aiming for a simultaneous release.
That question wasn't really specific enough I feel. Maybe ask if the PS4 version will be launching ahead of the other "platforms". But I still won't be that hyped until it's closer to release and confirmed.
Well its a launch title for ps4, so it in theory will be coming out at the same time

Maybe we'll get more of these little bits that will give the situation more authenticity. So far all we've seen from the combat AI is basic cover taking and shooting behind themselves while running away. Nothing as complex as interacting with other NPCs.

wow the ps4 is coming out q4 this year? i didn't think it would be so soon... buy a ps4 or upgrade my decade old computer....
Christ, I can already tell I'm going to spend countless hours just watching people in this.
It is probably more accurate to say it is a scripted representation of an on the spot crime discovery. You have nothing to base your doubt off of, this is next generation tech.

Sorry, but it was most certainly scripted to happen right there, right then for show purposes. The game looks super promising, no doubt about that but come on, at least wait until you get to play it yourself.
i want to be able to sneak up on a couple having sex in a car in some alley and hack everything around them
simultaneous means 'at the same time', so yes, it was specific

GameSpy: So when's the PC release date? Ubisoft PR: October 30th. GameSpy: Yeah, but when's the real PC release date? Ubisoft PR: It's October 30th. GameSpy: Uh huh. And can you say that with a straight face? Ubisoft PR: You can ask me as many times as you like, but the answer will be the same. GameSpy: Very well, let's move on. So, when will you announce the delay of the PC version? Ubisoft PR: ...
Wouldn't be the first time they've said this and then delayed the PC version only anyways.
i want to be able to sneak up on a couple having sex in a car in some alley and hack everything around them
... Oh, I'm pretty sure you would also mess with things inside of them, not just around.
