My only option, really, is to buy a PS4. Upgrading my PC would cost ~£600 to be a noticeable upgrade.
I want more in depth gameplay mechanics than just cover and shoot.

They said the "PS4 demo" was actually running on a PC with PS4 level hardware... so I'd say mid-range sounds accurate.

Yeah it's just that the PS4 hardware is 8GB of GDDR5 RAM shared between everything. That's insanely fast, can PC hardware even do that? I know it's not a be all end all since graphics cards can have like 2GB alone and regular RAM is fine for storing things but I don't know what that means for PC optimization vs. PS4 optimization.
i'd ask darpa instead...

from what i can see from the ps4 wiki page it basically just has a processor and ram and no video processor... i think pretty much everything is handled by the processor and ram.

The GPU is on the same die as the processor and is equivalent to a 7850 from what early reports would suggest.

I think it'll be more like that it's playable at mid settings in the game on any average PC, but to run it at the highest you'll need some much better hardware if it scales properly. The PC version looks pretty gorgeous compared to most of our current-gen games.

It'll be worse in the future if all other consoles will be like the PS4. But people can still play games at bad quality on their laptop or PC.
I think you're exaggerating the hardware behind the PS4 a bit. It's more or less a 2011 PC.

I dunno, PC is much more versatile, generally has a bigger game library, and all dem delicious mods and Steam deals.
But if you just want to play some major upcoming AAA titles and whatever Indies happen to pop up on PSN, yeah probably.

Depends on how good the port is, or else all console ports would run equally fluid on PC (with appropriate settings). There's several voices claiming "PS4 = PC!", but the weird RAM architecture alone leaves me with some serious doubts. But x86 will hopefully mean faster ports if nothing else.

Two obviously separate play throughs that go down almost exactly the same way. Smells pretty scripted to me.

Buying a PS4 won't make me suddenly lose my PC. :v: HD5850's in crossfire and a Q9450 might start showing their age this year, but at least I'll still have all my other games to play. It's just that I'll be more inclined to buy something like Watch Dogs on PC if I can try a demo first to see how it runs, if I can't get all the bells and whistles running in it that I could with a PS4, well...
