considering the old incentive for preordering (guaranteeing the collectors edition that only has bonuses not to do with the in game at all) was good enough... i mean the thing with metro is just insane though. im not even letting joe's own insanity rub off on me. the first time i saw him rant about preorders and bonuses and shit the whole time i was just going "sing it like we know it brother". i was sickened by this kind of shit the moment i saw cheats as DLC. also because of what's going on in planetside 2 even though i am a huge franchise fanboy i will not be buying or playing the game. what's going on in there sickens me. i really want to know who exactly thought all this shit up. because whoever is doing it seems to have some kind of really unkept mental illness. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] also having to preorder a game in 4 different places and 2 different versions to get all the content.
i just watched an angry joe rant about how they're charging 5 bucks for ranger mode in the new metro. i don't think anyone has any idea how everyone else is pissed off at this preorder shit. it's unimaginably annoying to the point where it makes me feel fucking psychotic. back in the good old days you could either buy the normal version that included everything in the game, or the collector's edition which only had physical exclusives like art books and miniatures and a making of dvd. why can't it be like that? there's even an incentive to preorder in order to get the collector's edition.
As I've heard it, used games + physical exclusives not being relevant to digital distribution. You want someone to not buy a physical copy he'll later trade in so the retailer makes twice the money off a unit? Better start polishing your digital version as soon as possible. They have included an artbook or something in the digital version, but apparently it's not incentive enough. Not sure why used copies are such a big deal in the games industry to be honest. There's tons of items in the world that can be resold, why's it such a big problem for the games industry specifically? There's not even ties to "digital content not diminishing in value after having been used" in there somewhere since Steam doesn't let you resell or trade-in your games at all under normal circumstances. Heck for multiplayer games you even need to pay for an additional copy per player which isn't the case for movies you can watch with friends or traditional games you buy once for all players the game supports. We're constantly reaching new heights with this, too, now even unknown DLC can be pre-ordered via Season Passes. dafuq? I honestly feel really stupid not knowing why this huge issue exists, it's confusing the heck outta me. Not decided on Watch Dogs yet, but for Metro I think I'll just wait for a sale or some all-in-one-GOTY-like edition comes along. I just wanna buy the game and play the game without any bullshit attached, and right now the service closest to that is offered by frickin' pirates.
Game publishers have basically been trying their best to slowly and steadily lower the standards for things like special editions/extra content at higher prices ever since digital distribution and DLC really took off. They've certainly succeeded so far. If a publisher tried this shit in something like 2006, they'd get called out and there'd likely be an outcry over it. Nowadays it's just par-for-the-AAA-course, and anyone who complains about it is a big melodramatic entitled whiny nerd. Oh well, at least the game itself looks good, just a shame it's already being devalued by rampant, unnecessary consumerism.

No money goes from me selling my toaster to the company that makes toasters. Does that mean that we should ban the sale of used toasters?
No money goes from me selling my toaster to the company that makes toasters. Does that mean that we should ban the sale of used toasters?
You own the toaster. You don't own your game. That's the problem - you only have permission to play the game, you don't own it. This is the usual argument. But it's weird, since you are allowed to sell books and movies used.
Illicit game sales are going to skyrocket if everyone cracks down on used games. There will be a black market for used games and there will be bloodshed.
I don't understand why Aiden has to hack the elevators and forklifts. Isn't there just an "Up" button? And why would a forklifts controls even be connected to a network?
No money goes from me selling my toaster to the company that makes toasters. Does that mean that we should ban the sale of used toasters?
Speaking of which, I really need a toaster on the cheap side.
I was a bit dissapointed when I saw some of the gameplay, I expected better "infiltration" than going from camera to camera, and hacking on the run, when he leaves, tons of slow mos and pop ups with press this button for slow mo.... The game is gonna be good, but lets not overhype it like with Skyrim. I could be wrong from what I saw, the game has alot more to offer!

They just focused on showing the hacking infiltration style on the video.
I'd prefer a game where hacking takes more effort than "press x to hack"
I'd prefer a game where hacking takes more effort than "press x to hack"
It's more like press x to activate a specialized program prepared vigorously beforehand. Being able to write programs to hack cameras and phones and such would be a tad ambitious.
I'd prefer a game where hacking takes more effort than "press x to hack"
Having a minigame for every single hack would get annoying really fast though.
Ubisoft don't fuck this up.
It's more like press x to activate a specialized program prepared vigorously beforehand. It was very minimalistic, and I think it took place on a train. You had a laptop and had to actually type in commands. [editline]oh hamburgers[/editline] Found it. Quadrilateral Cowboy.
Quadrilateral Cowboy.
Another game I can't wait for.
I'd prefer a game where hacking takes more effort than "press x to hack"
Would you like a DXHR minigame every time you try to pull a clever stunt in hot pursuit? If they pull it off right, it can be very tense with simple "press x to hack". I mean shooting is also just pressing M1, but in the right environment/context it can be quite tense. Ideally I'd like hacking to have something of a heist-movie-vibe to it. First a lot of slow build-up, assessing situation and options and making a plan, then rapidly letting every action snap into place while hoping you're every bit as clever as you think you are. Considering we're dealing with surveillance tech and stealth, it could very well be you'll be getting under real pressure trying to fulfill the objective while security could catch up with you any second. I'd much rather like to focus on the planning than doing hacking minigames all the time.
No money goes from me selling my toaster to the company that makes toasters. Does that mean that we should ban the sale of used toasters?
I assume it's because 99% of of a toaster's cost is the cost of manufactoring and 1% actually developing the blueprints and stuff for the toaster, because... well.... it's a toaster. :v: A (digital) game on the other hand is 100% research and development and basically zero production cost.
Should clarify. Yeah, I'm okay with the whole "press x to hack" when you're driving or something, I think that's a good idea. But the way I see it, it's not really hacking - the vulnerability has already been opened, and he's just manipulating it there. The actual HACK itself should be a bit more complicated.
I don't remember seeing him hacking an elevator, but as for forklifts being connected to a network, the entire city is hooked up to an experimental OS.
Yes, I know that, but what is the limit of what can be "hooked up"? I mean, cameras and ATMs and shit, I understand that, but a forklift? A mainly mechanical tool? Are all the cars hooked up, too? The street lights? Peoples digital watches? The pacemakers? The electric guitars? Who on earth connects their forklift controls to the internet?
Are all the cars hooked up, too? The street lights? Peoples digital watches? The pacemakers? The electric guitars?
Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. I wouldn't doubt it if paper was connected to the system. The system is enveloping everything in the entire city, that's kind of the point of it. [editline]fucking tags, how do they work[/editline] Watch this
I'd prefer a game where hacking takes more effort than "press x to hack"
afaik they said they basically went with movie hacking because it would be easier to explain for the player also because honestly, i don't really want to deal with an uplink style minigame everytime i want to raise the road bars
remember the hacking minigame in bioshock?.... [editline]13th May 2013[/editline] simply the fact that it was there was a problem.
remember the hacking minigame in bioshock?....
I remember getting bored of it around the midway point of the game because it wasn't even remotely difficult, just tedious. Though I liked the Bioshock 2 hacking minigame. [editline]13th May 2013[/editline]
Would you like a DXHR minigame every time you try to pull a clever stunt in hot pursuit?
Maybe not when driving but during certain difficult hacks while stationary on foot it could be cool. I don't know if it would fit with the theme or pacing of the game but I loved the DXHR minigame.
remember the hacking minigame in bioshock?.... [editline]13th May 2013[/editline] simply the fact that it was there was a problem.
Then vary it a bit 'cmon, it's a game about hacking, they should be able to do that
hacking minigames are awfull and i'm glad they haven't reared their ugly heads here.
Yeah. minigames are ass, but I hope they keep the gimmicky features down..
