The Wii-U is Nintendo's current gen console that has had a rather rocky life to say the least. Sales aren't as high as the Xbone or PS4 but despite that the little system is trying it's hardest offering some of the absolute best first party games and coming with the ability to run older Wii titles. Roughly a bit stronger than the 360 and PS3 the system's claim to fame is the gamepad controller. While it looks bulky it's actually rather light and as you've most likely noticed there's a big screen in the middle of it that usually mirrors whatever is on the TV so if you have a show you want to watch while playing you can keep on gaming- and in some cases like the Wonderful 101 or Splatoon the game will even ask you to balance the two at the same time similar to the Nintendo DS line of systems. That might sound a bit complicated but trust me- it's not. If it's still not good enough for you the system still supports a wide variety of controllers (though not all games support everything). In no exact order you can use the Pro Controller that's styled somewhat like the 360's controller, the Wii remote that I'm sure if you owned a OG Wii you still have lying around and more. There's bound to be a controller for everyone! Miiverse is probably the unsung hero of the Wii-U to myself and many others. Basically every game has it's own community where you can go ask for advice on a game or doodle random things. You'll be using miiverse to add people to your friends list and you can just chat it up and see what everyone's up to- some games are even starting to impliment it in sneaky ways such as Splatoon turning drawings people do into artwork on the walls in game. It's suggested you boot it up at least once. Miiverse also features private messages so if you want to talk in secret for whatever reason just tap the mail icon and the person on your friends list and you'll be able to draw/chat/whatever you want. Amiibo are tiny plastic figurines that add a handful of small things to various games be it power ups, alternate costumes or small playable missions. They don't hide anything required behind them though so don't worry if you have no interest in the toys. We have a Amiibo thread here on the forums if you want to learn more about them or talk about them in general. [t]http://c510383.r83.cf2.rackcdn.com/photos/PhotoDB_Repository/2005/12/custom/video%20game%20clipart-299x199.gif[/t] I bought a Wii-U, what games should I get? Good choice! You're about to have a shit ton of fun just like those guys in the generic clipart I found on google image search. I want to note that a lot of what's about to follow is forum user Sift's personal opinion. If you want to change something feel free to post and I'll change it. Community effort! Must Haves Super Mario 3D World This generations 3D Mario Platformer is a 4 player romp through a ton of worlds featuring 4 playable characters and 1 hidden unlockable that you can most likely guess if you somehow haven't been spoiled. The game features a handful of new powerups while bringing back a number of favorites like the Tanuki Leaf. It may not be the hardest game in the series but there's so much content it's almost impossible to be upset with what you've got. It also introduces Captain Toad and makes him an official character and is the main reason we have Captain Toad Treasure Tracker- which don't be surprised is also on this list. Mario Kart 8 Nintendo's flagship racing game meant for both casual and hardcore fans returns for it's 8th installment (if the number didn't give it away). This version introduces a anti-gravity mechanic that completely flips the game on it's head in a rather literal fashion. Sporting a new roster and some of the best courses ever it's impossible to really go wrong with this one. Just ask the thread if you'd like a race and there's a good chance myself and others will gladly join if we're around. DLC: Mario Kart 8 has some of the best DLC out there and it's suggested you pick it up alongside the game. For a meager price you get 8 colors for yoshi and shy guy, 6 characters (3 being crossover characters) a ton of new karts and bikes and 4 entirely new cups featuring courses based on things like F-Zero and Animal Crossing. You also get the all new 200CC speed class for free, the games amazing!. Super Smash Bros U You should know what this game is if you've owned any home Nintendo console. Smash brothers is the series where Nintendo characters get together and beat the hell out of each other Sumo Style in stock matches or timed battles. The fourth entry in the series sports a whopping 51 characters out of the gate with the likes of Mega-Man, Sonic and Pac-Man thrown in as cameo fighters. This is a absolute must have for anyone grabbing the system and depending on your preferences this could easily be seen as the best smash yet. DLC: SSB is opening itself to DLC, some of it being a mixed bag... though regardless of this it's highly suggested at the very least you pick up the fighters to expand the roster. Current DLC characters are Ryu (Street Fighter), Lucas (Mother 3), Roy (Fire Emblem 6/Melee), Mewtwo (Pokemon). Facepunch's General Smash Bros Thread Splatoon Splatoon is Nintendo's crack at making a shooter- and it's fantastic. Gameplay features you playing as an Inkling, a humanoid squid type creature made of ink joining a 4 man team to try to paint battlefields your teams color. Killing isn't so much the focus of this game (though it does help) and it boasts some impressive mobility options as well as 5 different weapon types with a absolute truckload of customization. You've probably heard the praise for this game by now and it's all well deserved. Boasting free updates that are STILL rolling out as well as a solid (if not short) singleplayer you're getting exactly what you hoped for with this title. Facepunch's Splatoon Thread Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze This game is amazing and the absolute must have if you're into 2D platformers in the slightest. Retro Studios has knocked it out of the park when it comes to making a living breathing world and David Wise has returned from the SNES games to compose some of the best music you've heard from a game. It's widely regarded as THE BEST platformer for very good reasons, it cannot be suggested enough, nothing else really comes close. Super Mario Maker Super Mario Maker is a level editing tool first and foremost. If you don't have a reliable way to get your wii-u online you probably should look past this game sadly as the main draw is the creation aspect. SMM Gives players a custom built physics engine that can swap between SMB1, 3, World and U and a gigantic armful of toys so you can build your dream Mario courses and upload them for all to see. Each skin will come with it's own quirks (like the spin jump in World, Wall jumping in U and more) to differentiate them. There's 60 pre-baked in levels but a lot of the ones shown seem to be more like demonstrations of what you can do with the tools given. Regardless though it's hard to pass up with everything it offers, if you like 2D platformers and Mario games as a whole don't overlook it. Pokken Tournament Pokken Tournament is a brand new type of fighting game that's been lifted straight from the arcades. It feels like a strange mix of 3D combat ala Power Stone along with more traditional Street Fighter 2D combat. It's a game that instead of prioritizing long combos instead focuses on a RPS system where normal punches and attacks beat grabs, grabs beat counters, and counters beat normal attacks. It's honestly hard to explain with just words but thankfully the game also boasts a expansive tutorial that explains literally every mechanic in detail and a pretty easy single player for you to practice on. The game also features a ranked online mode, friendly fights and more- and amazingly this is some of- if not the best netplay you could ever find in a game like this. You rarely have to wait for over 5 seconds for a match and a good number of them are lagless. It's amazing. Certainly suggest getting this if you're a fan of Pokemon or Fighting games in general. Niche Titles These won't get a huge write up but are generally considered solid games for the platform. You can't go wrong with any of them though they're not for everyone. Tokyo Mirage Sessions # Fire Emblem. ============ 3DS FUNZONE============== Welcome to a thrilling new world of discussion regarding games coming out for the Nintendo 3DS! The 3DS has been out for some time so I won't bore you with a huge write up on what it is- it's Nintendo's (possibly soon to be replaced) dual screened handheld system that's been out for some time. It comes in 2 main flavors- The normal 3ds and the new 3ds. What's the difference between the Old 3DS and New 3DS? The New 3DS was something of a flop- but it's still one that's worth investing in if you're just now getting into the scene. It's basically just a slightly more beefed up 3DS tech wise with built in amiibo functionality and a little c-stick nub. Nintendo originally promised there would be games exclusive to it and used Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS as it's headliner but quickly realized they'd be cutting into their profits so now all the N3DS really offers is better textures in some games and better 3D capabilities. Also while it's not N3DS exclusive the new Hyrule Warriors Legends might as well be as MAN that thing runs like trash on the older 3DS Miiverse has moved to the 3DS as well, it loads in slower but it has the same exact functionality as the Wii-U counterpart. You're able to go into communities made for your favorite games and share tips, tricks and drawings. Sadly no game uses the miiverse quite like Splatoon or other games on the wii-u yet. Maybe one day you'll see your drawings appear in game like a number of wii-u titles but for now just treat it like a fun thing to have access too. On the 3DS you're lacking private messaging but feel free to post screenshots and whatever else may come to mind. Amiibo are those tiny plastic figures that you see people complaining about time to time. The 3DS recently had the ability to read them patched in but honestly nothing on the system really makes use of them so far so they can be safely ignored. If you do want to get in on that amiibo action it's important to note that the older 3DS models will requirea add-on amiibo reader sold seperately to scan them in- the New 3DS's bottom screen has reading functionality built into it already. We have a Amiibo thread over here if you want to know more. The games! The reason you bought this thing! There's a goddamn lot of em'! So much so that I'd be sacrificing my entire day to type up all of them so instead I'll only be posting a list of games that are rather well recieved in each catagory- feel free to ask for more opinions from the thread but here's a selection of games that you can't really go wrong with. Very very good OP. Excited to see what NX brings to the industry and to my living room/pocket.
Why does the OP say Fates is coming out soon? Or is it not out for Europe yet? I look forward to getting Kirby Planet Robotron. I really wanna jump back into the Kirby series again because I have a pretty decent history with it. I've played pretty much every single one of the GBA games (Amazing Mirror, Squeak Squad, Nightmare in Dreamland) as well as Kirby 64 and Kirby Air Ride. Great franchise all around.
Good op sift. Hopefully this brings in more conversations about Nintendo products now that it's general.

The series has been getting a surprisingly connected plot ever since Return to Dreamland and there's a fair number of callbacks to older stuff in Robobot. It's a good ass game.
The intertwining plot is very reminiscent of the Dark Matter trilogy in a way. Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards are all clearly related in a way that is not as obvious with, say, Kirby's Dream Land -> Kirby's Adventure -> Kirby Super Star or with Kirby Squeak Squad and Mass Attack (or the spinoffs like Tilt n Tumble and Canvas Curse), and Return to Dreamland -> Triple Deluxe -> Planet Robobot's trilogy not only has a similar amount of relation to each game like the Dark Matter trilogy does, but tries to connect it to the rest of the series as well (especially the aforementioned Dark Matter trilogy). The features of Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad are loosely related and the plots of Squeak Squad and Mass Attack are related and thus could be viewed as the other trilogy of the series, but what ties them together is not nearly as signficiant [sp]aside from Daroach becoming an ally[/sp].
I've been wanting to do a general "State of Nintendo" video series for a while now; ever since about E3 2015. You guys think people would care? I remember a while back I released a script to an unfinished New 3DS video I was working on after those models' announcement, and responses went along the lines of:
... it's like when you turn a corner in the subway and you see someone ranting and raving at the wall.

Why take all that time to write something so pointless?

I read all of that and I agree with it but no one cares dude

This is one of the most amazingly, pointless things I've ever seen on this board.
So I'm kind of reluctant to try again.
Speaking of a state of Nintendo video, here's a state of Miyamoto video.

Wait no I didn't. I think got Triple Deluxe mixed with Super Star Ultra for some reason. I need to buy Triple Deluxe. :v:
Heck yes you do!
Too bad it never went on sale. Meanwhile Kirby Fighters Deluxe is a pretty neat 10$ Mini-Smash game. I don't know much about the Deluxe version of the King Dedede drum game.
I actually recently bought Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze because of the price drop. That game is a lot of fun but it kicks my ass. Gonna go buy Triple Deluxe in a few minutes since I got paid this week. [editline]15th May 2016[/editline] The Gamestop near me didn't have Kirby Triple Deluxe in stock. :| Guess I'll try Target next.
I'm kinda worried about the future. While I did enjoy the Wii, the Wii U was a really weak system. I've owned a Wii U for so many years now and I think I still only have, like ten games for the system. I was expecting the virtual console to take another step forward but it seems to have, for the most part, stagnated. Even big titles you'd expect to have are missing in action. I think we'd all love a big major Zelda title for the system but now I'm hearing rumors that it'll be on the NX system next year, when I don't even feel like I've gotten all that much value out of the Wii U yet. I dunno, I guess I just wish Nintendo didn't seem to be in this weird limbo. Still love the 3DS, though. No real complaints there.
I just want the NX to not be a bigger trainwreck as the WiiU is. If Nintendo fucks up again, i don't think anyone would want to trust them anymore for home consoles at least.
I just finished playing through Triple Deluxe again. It's really great, although I don't like how 100% is tied to the keychains. The ones you pick up in the game have a chance to be duplicates of ones you already have, and they're really expensive when you buy them with play coins. I'm at 98% and intend to come back in a few months to just spend a ton of play coins to finish the keychain collection.
Yeah I can kinda see why the keychains are counted but part of me wishes they weren't. Arena runs and the like dump em on you en mass though so it's hard for me to complain too much.
I've been trying to 100% Triple Deluxe but those Keychains are a pain in the butt. I'm at 99% and I'm still missing quite a lot.
i 100%'s every kirby game except for triple deluxe the keychains aren't worth the effort collectibles that count toward your completion percentage should NOT be random/have multiples
Huh, I got doubles but even nearing the end of 100% if I got say... 5, only 1 of them would be a duplicate. I've actually 100%'d it twice :x
At last... Warioware touched here I come.
Seems like we are getting Nintendo Movies.

give me a PG-13 metroid movie

Part of the problem is that I'm kind of burned out on the game now and don't want to run through the Arena a bunch to grind for keychains.

Fire Emblem Fates is nearly out in Australia, less than a week to go. One would think that this extra time would have helped me decide which version to start with but you'd be wrong.

Will do, cheers.
