I'd totally bring my Switch at work to play Overwatch and other online games during breaks! The "on the go" aspect doesn't mean you have to play it in the train. Besides, aren't some trains, buses and planes equipped with free Wi-Fi?
They are, but it's always super shit WiFi. In addition to that, I am absolutely buying a Switch, and I am absolutely taking it to work with me.
well that's disappointing
So they're just going to drop this trailer and...wait? Just waste at least 2 months of advertising time?
Here's the system in different flavors
I can't wait to not get the Famicom and super Famicom versions here.
well that's disappointing
I know he's with the Wall Street Journal, but I really doubt Nintendo would waste these valuable 2 months to not reveal more info
This would be a really bad move to tease us with the new system and new games and then leave us in the dark yet again for the rest of the year
This would be a really bad move to tease us with the new system and new games and then leave us in the dark yet again for the rest of the year
so in other words something nintendo would probably do
nintendo is leaving us hungry leaving us wanting it leaving us wanting more i'm not sure how good of a strat that is
well that's disappointing
I don't believe this for a second. Nintendo makes stupid choices all the time granted but this would be so unbelievably idiotic it would be unreal.
well that's disappointing
I'm going to disagree with this. December is like the perfect place to announce a Nintendo Switch Direct, if they dod that, hell, I'll save my money for it, even if Sony or Microsoft makes a killer deal for their console for the holidays.
Was literally cooking dinner for myself just now and thought "Man the scariest thing for the Switch is if Nintendo thought that 3 minute trailer was good enough to last a couple months with literally nothing else. That would be such a massive suicide move there's no way but still." Then I saw that tweet and got angry at the implication that it might actually go down like that because are you fucking kidding me Nintendo. [editline]21st October 2016[/editline] I'm just hoping automerge saves me on this but we don't know the price point, the battery life, if has a touch screen, anything about the specs, literally anything. Just leaving people to guess on genuinely important features would just be so outstandingly stupid I can't believe it. It just sounds so fucked up that a company would reveal it's brand new car, take it for a cruise around the neighborhood to get people excited, and then slam into a brick wall as fast and hard as possible killing everyone stupid enough to show up.

You don't want to blow your load early, you want to drip-feed the hype for the console over the months.
It's also not coming out for 4-5 months. You don't want to blow your load early, you want to drip-feed the hype for the console over the months.
That isn't drip feeding though, that's cutting everything off entirely. What I expected was (roughly) Direct Next Month that would show: Glimpse of games planned. Give things hard titles so branding can get out and known more. More time spent showing the ports of MK8/Splatoon so folks can see that there's new stuff in them or whatever. Show that 3rd party support is in there. Talk about what the console actually is, what they plan to do with it. If it has touch screen stuff, it's online account system that kind of thing. Maybe end the direct with a price on bundles or whatever. No solid release date yet but that's fine. Let's idiots like me who want to preorder day 1 systems do so and work so Nintendo can gauge interest in the system. Just so people know what to expect from the LAUNCH of the system and what to expect day 1. Then sometime in January of February there's another direct that lays out plans for 2017 as a whole, at least leading up to E3 with a focus on this 3rd party support they're boasting. Small trailers to remind folks about what's coming out on the launch of it that kind of stuff. Finally a solid release date as well. Small adjustments to marketing made based on how many consoles are currently preordered and whatnot so they can see what's working and what's not and if they see a Wii-U 2 happening they can iunno, try to avoid it. That's about it. I didn't expect Nintendo to run out into the front lawn screaming at people to get away from them, it genuinely sounds like this is the Dreamcast 2
I wouldn't be surprised if Animal Crossing Switch gets casually announced during the upcoming Animal Crossing Direct.
I expect a 3DS price drop before the holidays, then a Switch direct in January.
wonder how long the battery life will be on the tablet thing
Well Sega did release a trailer for the Sonic Project 2017 earlier in the year this year as one of the first games to be officially announced to be on the Switch. Granted it was under the Switch's code name NX but it was still announced even before Breath of the Wild was officially announced to be on it. Sure we knew that they were putting it on the Switch but they never put the switch's nx code logo on their page.
I wouldn't be surprised if Animal Crossing Switch gets casually announced during the upcoming Animal Crossing Direct.
I completely forgot about that direct. It'll be cool if they give a subtle hint for AC Switch.
dunno if this was posted here yet
i think that nintendo is trying not to overshadow itself during the holiday season this year. they've probably got a ton of stuff lined up in terms of sales for the 3ds and wii u, and don't want to hurt them anymore than they could have by announcing this (i.e. why should I buy a new console or invest money in games if this new system is right around the corner?) honestly, its a sound opinion on the matter, however if you look at xbox one s and ps4 sales it's very obvious that just because somethings around the corner does not necessarily mean lost sales will correlate. but i'm an armchair economist, what do i know
I wonder how Nintendo will handle DS/3DS games on the Switch, assuming they have Virtual Console for it. Mainly screen wise like for the Zelda Games. They usually require the screens to be on top of each other (due to the boss fights being on multiple screens) You could have it long ways (so the controllers are on the top and bottom of the Tablet) but what about games that require you to use controllers. You can't really hold the Console long ways and have controllers in your hands, and from what I've seen there are no controller slots for it on the Tablet. I mean I guess they don't have to make it so the screens are on top of each other, but still though.
Thing is outside pokemon there's literally not a single game coming out on either the 3DS or the Wii-U this year. They're dead platforms as far as I'm aware so it's kinda hard to ruin what's not there.
Actually in Wii U's case, you can't store game data on an SD card. It's only there for photos and Wii mode. Gotta use a self-powered USB solution.
That's pretty fucking gross. I never bought a WiiU so I didn't know.
They're dead platforms as far as I'm aware so it's kinda hard to ruin what's not there.
3DS is far from being dead. It got some really good games in the past 6 months. Pokemon as the last game for this year is kinda ok actually.
Well off the top of my head the wii u is getting zelda u (kind of a big deal) and that new shantae game.
Shantae is a eshop game isn't it? Also Zelda comes after the holiday (and is on the NX anyway)
All that's left for the 3DS besides the new Pokemon games is Ever Oasis, and Mario Maker 3DS, I guess. Seems like to me Nintendo is ready to retire both the DS and the Wii families in one go, and bring in a new era of a console/handheld merged market. Though I wonder what they'll do for their next console, if there ever will be another
if they do make the switch (ha!) to the new platform as their primary handheld device too, would that mean the next pokemon game would technically be the first main series console pokemon title?
if they do make the switch (ha!) to the new platform as their primary handheld device too, would that mean the next pokemon game would technically be the first main series console pokemon title?
More likely than not it'll still be on the 3ds for at least one more game. the Pokemon games tend to play it safe with which system they put it on. When Black2White2 were released they were on the DS despite the 3ds being out for nearly a year and a half.
