yes i want fridge power back
Kirby is a series that can keep the core gameplay every time but add something to mix it up substantially and keeping it feeling fresh, such as Super Star introducing sub-games and turning abilities into cpu helpers or Squeak Squad letting you store and fuse abilities. IMO Triple Deluxe, while still a good game, was the weakest in that regard, with the Hypernova being a discount Super Ability gimmick. Planet Robobot was at least able to merge ground and mech gameplay well to make the mech feel like more than a filler gimmick.
It's a good series to use as an example on how to keep a certain gameplay mechanic consistent yet fresh each time.

It has been finished.
Maybe I should play DKC returns next.
Saturday I had 3 people over in my house to do a little gather up because of my birthday. Played Smash and had some good laughs.
Then one of them asks:
" Hey do you have Mario Party? Let's play some of that."
I seriously regret not buying Mario Party for any of my Nintendo console. Man it would've been so perfect. And we had exactly 4 people too. I'm definitely buying that on my next trip to the U.S along with other games.

I wonder how that looks at different angles, because that shading on it looks rad as hell.
Nintendo really needs to make another Kirby game with Kirby 64's Copy Ability Mechanic.
I feel like I'm the only one who didn't like it and I don't really get the appeal. Like for the sake of making myself clear the problems I had with it are-
A: No hats which kinda sucked, it's minor but still
B: A lot of abilities only had a single attack/move. Some mixes were just "previous thing- but bigger!" which was kind of lazy.
C: Outside the couple goofy things like Fridge most of them were just generic "weapon with element on it."
D: Stages that required certain powers for puzzles now forced you to look for both of them, then keep the mix power to a arbitrary point. Having to replay 2-3 levels in some cases just to bust a block at the end of another stage wasn't cool.
E: A few classic powers were straight up removed like sword and cutter.
I don't think there's been a bad Kirby game but 64 kinda teeters on that edge for me.

Cutter wasn't removed in 64.

I don't really count Kirby ripping his face off and hurling it as Cutter, like it's a boomerang projectile but it doesn't have Final Cutter, you can't throw several blades out, and you have to wait for the slow moving projectile to reattach to Kirby etc.

1) It's called Cutter, therefore it is Cutter
2) Final Cutter was added in Kirby Super Star, which gave powers fleshed out movesets; the Dark Matter trilogy has simpler movesets because it focuses on other aspects of gameplay, such as the animal buddies in KDL2 and KDL3 which themselves modify powers and the mixing of powers in Kirby 64
3) The Dark Matter trilogy doesn't have hats. This was something Kirby Super Star added, but KDL2 and KDL3 tried to remain consistent with Kirby's Adventure and Kirby 64, as a simultaneous combination of sequal and reimagining of KDL3, followed suit
4) Almost all of the "previous thing but bigger" powers were specifically the ones where you combined a power with itself (i.e. spark+spark)
5) Sword was mildly redundant because he had a fire sword from fire+cutter and an electric lightsaber wannabee via spark+cutter.
6) The reason it has a low amount of powers is because of the amount of combinations possible. There are 7 base powers (excluding the shard gun and overhead) and 27 combinations, making for a total of 34 powers, which is a sizable amount. For comparison, if there were 8 base powers, there would be a total of 43, if 9, there would be 53, etc so it's quite understandable why there are only 7.
Just to be clear(er) when I first played 64 it was THE BEST GAME EVER and I loved the throwing stars and fireworks ability, when I'm voicing these complaints it's from going back to it in the dream collection.
1) It's called cutter but has nothing that makes cutter special, it should be called lump boomerang because that's what it is.
2) Yeah I'm aware. It's something Robobot does well if you think of the armor as a new animal buddy.
3) I'm also aware, there's 30 something powers so a hat for all of them would be nuts but it still doesn't help change the visual variety at all and leads to weird things like Kirby ripping his face off as he doesn't have a bladed hat anymore.
4) Yeah, it doesn't stop it from being kind of pointless though. Only one I think is remotely clever in "but bigger" is rock, and that's due to Rock being able to get up and move around
5) It's also kind of a staple though and Fire+Cutter and Spark+Cutter just being swords is just kinda lazy when they could of had Sword+Fire or Sword+Cutter for it and did something original.
6) I know mixing creates a lot but given the fact they're totally lacking movelists seeing "woah 34 powers" loses a lot of weight when a whole ability is dedicated to turning into a melting ice cube and nothing else or throwing a ninja star at things when the Ninja ability in Super Star could already do that plus a lot more.
Like people want power mixing to come back but I don't want to sacrifice having movelists just for the sake of a bloated number.
I'd rather have Poison (as a example) have it's puddle creation, wave riding, cloud spitting, melee combos etc then mixing Water (with a single move) and Bomb (also with a single move [this is pretty much bomb anyway]) to get one ability that can only do the cloud spit and nothing else.
I'm just saying in regards to the hats that this the complaint is more about how you are comparing older, cartoonish Kirby (although they've since started bringing back some of the Kirby 64 faces) to the rebooted, less gummy Kirby that happened in 2002 (although the start of this is apparent in Kirby 64). There was only one Kirby game from 1994-2001 that had hats out of over a dozen, and that game was Super Star. The concept of having movesets tied to powers wouldn't even be revisited until Kirby and the Amazing Mirror in 2004, and even then only for the two powers meant to be OP (Smash and Master).
And I do prefer having copy movesets to mixing copies, but having one set of games do one and another the other wouldn't be bad. After all, the Sakurai (KDL, KA, KSuSt), Shimomura (KDL2, KDL3, K64) and Kumazaki (KRtDL, KTD and KPR) arcs all have distinctly different yet similar gameplay. (It should come as no surprise, but the 4 GBA and DS-exclusive games: Amazing Mirror, Canvas Curse, Squeak Squad and Mass Attack, all came from separate directors, which is why they don't share immediate similarities to any other games in the series)
Duke you gotta realize I'm a Kirby buff, I'm aware of series direction and whatnot :v:. That being said I wouldn't start call it less gummy or anything, there's always been a small bit of seriousness to the games starting from Super Star at the least with Meta Knights invasion and the heavy mechanical theme of that sub-game.
Kumazaki loves his animes though so his games have a more distinct action-feel though.
Actually now that you mention it, I kinda wonder if Kumazaki is gonna keep making games or if they're going to pass it off to another guy just to keep that rule of 3 going.
I sure hope not because I think his games are the best now that he's totally found his stride.
I enjoy the Kumazaki games myself. I personally prefer the Shimomura games at the moment, but only by a little and if the implications of Planet Robobot are to go by, the next game by him should push me to preferring his to the Dark Matter trilogy.
I have mixed emotions about Kirby Super Star, though. I loved the power movesets and the atmosphere, but felt that the game was WAY too short because it suffered from "Sakurai Syndrome" (aka make the game about everything at the expense of the depth of any single particular section of the game that could have been fleshed out more. It's not as bad as when he started adding demos, coin shooters and smash tour and stuff to Smash, but it shows a clear start of his excruciating habit of doing this. Kirby's Air Ride also partially suffered from this because City Trial could have been fleshed out a bit more and only 9 regular tracks is kind of lacking for how good the gameplay is) I would have prefered to have seen a fleshed out, Metroidvaniaesque Great Cave Offensive (yes, Amazing Mirror is basically this) or a longer version of Milky Way Wishes that had Meta-Knight's Revenge as a subgame or somehow-combined plot. It takes less than two hours to 100% Kirby Super Star casually.
I just want them to bring back the Water ability combined with the Bubble ability from Squeak Squad (similar to how RTDL combined Spark with Plasma). It would be great way to bring back my favorite ability while differentiating it from Poison which seems to be a retooled Water.
I just really like having water powers in games.
I'd like to see Clean Kirby return from Kirby's Dream Land 3 and grant you the ability to ride it like a broomstick like when you had ChuChu with you.
Ubisoft fucked up this E3, they just spoiled the NX release date.
They said the next Just Dance will be on the NX next year specifically.
I thought nintendo already said it was coming out in march back when they announced no E3 plans.

I don't remember them specifically stating the NX would be out by next year, though I could be wrong.
