Didn't they basically remove Battle mode in Mario Kart 8? Because for me that was the absolute best thing about playing Mario Kart with friends, with Block Fort being the best stage (It's just present on Mario Kart 64 and DS sadly, and the replacement they made in Double Dash was pretty boring)
One of my biggest problems with Mario Kart 7 is the lack of Waluigi. Instead we got the Bee from Mario Galaxy.
Honey Queen, Wiggler, and Metal Mario were terrible additions. At least Lakitu finally gets to ride. I'm glad he's a racer after being a Mario Kart staple for so long.

It's not really that fun at all, I preferred 64 and Double Dash's Battle/Shine modes

Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina, over shit like fucking Waluigi, among other major characters
The greatest sin of the past two Mario Kart games for me is not having playable Dry Bones.
Huh, it seems as if Fire Emblem Fates up to Chapter 6 is like a demo. Your game stops when you have to download the respective path's data if you bought from the eShop... In my case, end of the line till I can download Birthright.
I ended up going with the plan to get the 2DS bundle after the price drop that took place today, but I have not heard anything about Mario Kart 7, which was bundled with the system. Is it any good?
I hope you have friends to play with because for some fucking reason they decided to remove single player versus matches. Did you want to play on rainbow road with CPU? Well if so fuck you you have to play through the Special Cup just for one race. That's the reason why 7 is by far my least played Mario Kart.
Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina, over shit like fucking Waluigi, among other major characters
PGP and Baby Rosalina were only in 8 though which had Waluigi? [editline]20th May 2016[/editline] Unpopular opinion but Mario Party 10's minigames were actually pretty fun and I liked most of them. Shame the board part sucked but still.
The greatest sin of the past two Mario Kart games for me is not having playable Dry Bones.
I miss going around in a tank as dry bones.
Unpopular opinion but Mario Party 10's minigames were actually pretty fun and I liked most of them. Shame the board part sucked but still.
Yeah 10 had good minigames, it's just everything else about the game brought the experience down to rock bottom.
hyrule warriors is fucking amazing holy shit why have i never played this before
I still desperately wish Legends was a WiiU Expansion and not having most of its interesting fixes locked to the N3DS
I still desperately wish Legends was a WiiU Expansion and not having most of its interesting fixes locked to the N3DS
I can see them release the Legends expansion on NX. I recently went back to the WiiU and the 3DS one is so washed down. Everything looks and feels so much better. But I want the boss mechanic in Co-Op!
Mario Kart DS is fine but it stinks when you play with others because of snaking.
Common misconception is that MKDS introduced snaking. It didn't. The reason it came to light prominently is because it had wifi, so people that did it finally played against people that didn't. Snaking is actually easier in Mario Kart 64 (aside from 150cc), Mario Kart: Super Circuit (easiest and also the most effective) and Mario Kart: Double Dash, and is even used by one of the staff ghosts on Baby Park. (Mario Kart DS' snaking does have an advantage on some tracks like Yoshi Circuit, Figure-Eight Circuit, Mario Circuit and SNES Mario Circuit 1 due to an exploit that could make you avoid terrain slowdown if executed properly, but in general Double Dash's snaking was the most useful) Mario Kart Wii also has snaking, despite the dumbed down drift system, and it's superior to normal kart movement; however, bikes were so overpowered that they were even faster than snaking karts. Mario Kart 7 and 8 manage to mitigate snaking in a way that is actually fun by making most of the levels have interactive stunt areas to get boosts from, which feels a lot more natural.
Neat
Man, watching this is making me so excited to see what these HD emulations will be like once they find a way around the slowdown. Seeing this also reminds me, what's the general opinion on CaveStory3D? Having never played it (shocking, I know) am I missing out on much playing the 3DS version compared to others?

Cave Story+ is by far the best version of the game.
Mario Kart Wii still holds a special place in my heart, and overall it's probably the game I sunk the most hours into, playing it almost daily with my sister back in the day. And despite the teams requirement, Battle Mode was probably at its peak in that game. Although MKDD's Battle Mode is a runner-up just because of how much there was to do in that one.
I don't truly understand how anyone enjoyed Mario Kart Wii's battle mode, to be honest. All of the maps were gigantic to the point where you could actually take forever to end up finding someone to hit and it was always in team mode with no deathmatching. It made the balloons near meaningless. I liked the idea of some of the stages, but wish they were shrunk down to at least be as "small" as Skyscraper. Mario Kart DS IMO had the best battle mode: -8-players -Excellent battle stages, including a remake of ever-popular MK64 Block Fort -Retained balloon robbing from MK:DD -First to have AI -Started everyone at one balloon, but with a total stock of five and a maximum of 3 inflated at a time, this allowed you to strategize if you wanted to use 3 balloons immediately, go with 2 balloons in an attempt to steal a 3rd from someone else or go full ham and just stay with one balloon and go for balloon theft at the cost of being able to be OHKO'd Double Dash's would be the best though if Bob-Omb Blast's winning point totals were adjustable, always feels like matches are too short in 4-player. (Shine Theft also needs to return, badly)
This is a few days old, but Adam did a video on the NX-using-carts rumor and I thought it was pretty interesting
Isn't that a really old rumor? I remember hearing about it at the beginning of the year.
Neat
So we're this close to running 3DS games in HD with sound on pc... Meanwhile we're stuck to playing on that awful 400x240 pixels resolution on legit hardware. Why can't they release a 3DS HD that's more powerful and can run games at, I dunno, 420p at the very least? Phones have been 1080p for years now. I have lots of amazing games just.. sitting there, unplayed or unfinished, because I just can't get myself to play on that 400x240 screen anymore.

Higher resolution screens and better hardware will force them to increase prices to a point where people won't want to buy their handhelds. [editline]21st May 2016[/editline]
More recent 'leaks' are pointing towards cartridge based physical game media
I know. What I'm saying is that it is old news. Maybe the content of the rumors are new, but the idea that the NX is possibly cartridge based isn't new.

Higher resolution screens and better hardware will force them to increase prices to a point where people won't want to buy their handhelds.
I just wish there was something on the opposite spectrum of the 2DS. Why is it ok to make a cheap version of their console, but it's not ok to make a higher end version? You could argue that they don't want current 3DS owners to feel like they're playing an inferior version of a game. But they don't seem to mind that 2DS users are playing with no 3D, and New3DS users get better framerates in a few games.

Look at how successful the DS and 3DS has compared to the PSP and PSVita, and those two can put amazing graphics.

Can't explain the N3DS though. On paper it sounds like a great idea, but in reality it has very few exclusive games and features in certain games. It's good for Monster Hunter though with the extra thumb nub and better battery life.
I never got people's complaints about the handhelds' resolution, honestly. To me, pixel density is more important and those screens are fine in that regard. Stuff like 1080p on a five-inch screen is just overkill to me. Back when I had a cell phone, it was an EnV Touch that ran at 800x480 on a 3-inch display. That was already super-crisp to me, and to be honest, I'm not sure I'd want a handheld's DPI to be that high. It eats up horsepower and battery really quick. I have an OG 3DS, and the screen is so small that I don't really need that much detail. Maybe if I had an XL like my sister, I'd feel differently. And even then? Like, I'd be fine with the GamePad's 480p display.
