So Nintendo is re-releasing a smaller version of the NES with 30 games with it on 11/11 in both NA and EU
NEED. NOW.
I just wonder what manpower Nintendo had in utilizing those games for a physical NES release, heck, even games like Final Fantasy hasn't had a western VC release and the last time there were a release at all was in 2014 in Japan. was surprised at the HDMI output, but the savestates sounds like the games are stored on the machine itself instead of having chips wired to it, which makes sense considering how old the original NES hardware was. (indirectly, if it partially used old hardware, it could've been a Nintendo-quality device that people could have modded to use their original games, assuming there's no regional lockout, which would have been amazing) apparently Wii remotes being compatible was a slipup unless it can support them wirelessly natively, in reality you can use Classic Controllers (pro) instead of just the NES controller. which in my opinion was pretty ingenious of them since a lot of people might have old controllers around. powered by USB would even increase the portability of it, assuming it doesn't drain too much power or overheats. ...Someone really needs to devise some sort of female/male cable with wireless right now so that people can use their existing controllers, probably be an emerging market for it.

Reminds me of the Sega Genesis some company named AtGames released a few years back that came pre-loaded with 80 games. Hopefully the mini-nes doesn't suffer from the same downsides that the re-released Genesis had, since the audio/visual quality was completely off and the wireless controllers were non-responsive for it. I don't know how well it worked with actual cartridges or wired controllers since I didn't have any to try out.
Reminds me of the Sega Genesis some company named AtGames released a few years back that came pre-loaded with 80 games. For all we know it has a gutted wii inside that only does the emulation stuff, which in of itself would be spectacular. We'll have to see, though.
Kinda wish they made it like the Generation NEX so that everyone's old cartridges still worked, but this is a hell of the start. Love the idea of keeping the Wiimote extension port around as a general "classic" port. Not too fond of them stupidly continuing to leave out necessary cables/adapters, though.
That's actually pretty cool, and I hope they follow up with the Super Nintendo in the future. Here's the US Box art for it, they're also selling additional controllers for $10 and looks like it works with the Wii remote. [T]http://images.nintendolife.com/news/2016/07/nes_fans_rejoice_-_nintendo_classic_mini_coming_this_november_ships_with_30_games/attachment/1/original.jpg[/T]
Old red-and-white logo is back. Let's see if that's just a nostalgia thing or a permanent revert.
wish dragon warrior was included
The fact that Square is involving themselves more with Nintendo gets me excited. Fucking weird they got Konami though.
The fact that Square is involving themselves more with Nintendo gets me excited. Fucking weird they got Konami though.
Weird? Contra was one of the games TO HAVE for the NES afaik
Weird? Contra was one of the games TO HAVE for the NES afaik
Probably talking about the current state of Konami. :v:
Where's our Contra pachinko machine?
Seriously, if they pull this off for the SNES and 64 they'll be printing money. Hell if they did the GameCube with 10 games for $200 I'd buy the shit out of it [editline]14th July 2016[/editline] To clarify the NES will sell for US $60 and AU $100
Something that got pointed out to me, at the bottom of the MiniNes page- [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CnWiRKFWIAAZrB1.jpg:large[/t] Seems they plan on more, if they have an icon for it and all.
If it goes all the way to a Mini Gamecube, imagine all the people buying it for Melee :v: Also if the SNES Mini happens, I hope the Europe version runs the same as the US version because I want the sexier console, since the US SNES looked like garbage compared to the EU/JAP one
It uses a USB to power itself, but does not provide an adapter to convert the USB into AC. :what:
The Nintendo Mini is fucking weird. It's literally a Nintendo Plug-n-Play. You go to any Chinatown market and you can buy a plug-n-play bootleg console with a billion games for thirteen bucks and twelve cents. I guess they want to ride on that 'retro chic' crowd and appeal to the same sort of people who haven't bought a Nintendo console in years but still played the shit out of Pokemon Go.

Bonus points if they recognize it from when they were younger.

Sega has one for the Genesis. Atari has 1 or 2 for the 2600. There is even one for the colecovision and intellivision. Doesn't really surprise me that Nintendo is jumping on it.
So Nintendo is re-releasing a smaller version of the NES with 30 games with it on 11/11 in both NA and EU
I'm so fucking hyped for this. Maybe they'll release a SNES version some time after this (and I'll buy that shit too)

It's a big 180 from where they previously were.
But to expand on my previous post, one thing I've always hoped for when companies do throwback stuff like this is somehow integrating all of the original hardware people still have sitting around. GC-to-Wii U adapter and the resuming of GameCube controller production was a great idea, but I'm thinking about how they're re-purposing the Wiimote's extension port as a general "classic controller" port. What if they make official adapters for all their old wired controllers to use that port? Or hardware that can run people's old cartridges and back up their saves to Virtual Console save states. Or using the legacy systems' various EXT. ports to provide extra functionality such as connection to Nintendo Network and Miiverse. Think of all those old systems, games, and accessories people still have out there. Must they just be artifacts? Forget individual systems, the install-base of Nintendo hardware as a whole is massive. If they're smart, they'd leverage that. Nintendo's whole M.O. in developing their systems for the longest time was "get all you could out of older, more mature tech before moving to the new stuff." Like... dude. Perfect opportunity right here. Whether or not new games are still being developed for them, Nintendo still has six home consoles on the market currently. Why not make all of them at least somewhat active? What I wanted with the Wii U - had it actually been bundled with the Wiimote - is the system where you have all these form factors to play with. Motion? Check. Touch? Check. Traditional? Check. HD. Wii BC. Virtual Console. Classic Controllers. But we could expand that far beyond one system. There's so much Nintendo tech out there just waiting to be revitalized, and people ripe to integrate into their ecosystem.

You have quick arcade games like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man, shooters like Super C and Gradius to lengthy adventures like Zelda and Final Fantasy, so pretty much a bit off everything. I still wonder why Contra 1 hasn't seen another release. Is there some copyright issue that they can't re-release it again?
wonder how they're going to handle star tropics and the letter you have to soak in water
wonder how they're going to handle star tropics and the letter you have to soak in water
The box will just come with newly printed letters in it, r-right?
Surprised they didn't throw MOTHER on there now that it finally has a Western release.
I guarantee if they do an SNES one, Earthbound will be on it
If they do a Mini-SNES (which they should), these games are pretty much guaranteed:
Earthbound Pilotwings Super Mario Kart Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Super Metroid Contra III: The Alien Wars Donkey Kong Country Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble F-Zero Super Punch-Out!! Square on an SNES Mini without Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger would be ridiculous, really.
Square had amazing titles on the SNES
