According to the Japanese website using cards for villagers that have already left town and for the special characters like KK Slider and Isabelle, they take up permanent residence in your house instead.

Wonder if they'll add partial New 3DS support like faster loading, or save file optimization which could do things like extend the space inside wardrobes...or even gameplay stuff like selling all fruit/insects.

I think this is one of the better things Nintendo has made in recent years, it's gonna make a hell of a gift for a lot of people

I'm getting the same for my parents, they have no idea how to work the controllers for the virtual games I got and they already joked about getting it for them

And it's perfect for that demographic of people who remember playing those games back when they were brand new, and may not want to bother with purchasing an actual NES console plus separate cartridges and controllers. Hell I'll probably pick one up just to have it for the living room TV, despite having a fully functional NES in the house already.
