Mario Kart 7 and 8 manage to mitigate snaking in a way that is actually fun by making most of the levels have interactive stunt areas to get boosts from, which feels a lot more natural.
I still really miss the stunt-ramps from Mario Kart Wii, on turns. Sure, going on the inside of the turn was objectively better, but it was so much fun.
been out of the loop, does the EUR version of the new fire emblem use the same localization as the USA version?
been out of the loop, does the EUR version of the new fire emblem use the same localization as the USA version?
I haven't noticed anything so far,... maybe? 'Twould be a shame for Beruka and Saizo to gaze at each other again, without speech. If Treehouse did that on purpose, I will never be able to grasp their reason behind it.
Treehouse did that on purpose, I will never be able to grasp their reason behind it.
translator had 5 minutes until lunch break so he just said fuck it and wrote that the characters just stare at each other
been out of the loop, does the EUR version of the new fire emblem use the same localization as the USA version?
I haven't seen anyone complain about memes so I guess not
I haven't seen anyone complain about memes so I guess not
i assumed it was preaching to the choir by now so no one is bothering. We all know it's bad so it's no point reminding everyone again.
translator had 5 minutes until lunch break so he just said fuck it and wrote that the characters just stare at each other
...Damn wankers, it's almost obvious they cared only about humoring themselves and not giving two shits about something natural. Also why did they go out of their way to make Kana say "I love you" in dragon-growling gibberish? "I'm so happy to be with you, father..." would've been good enough.
Nintendo is presumably working on a new handheld, dubbed "MH" http://news.finance.yahoo.co.jp/detail/20160524-10000069-dzh-stocks
so they've finally cut out the middle man and made a dedicated monster hunter device for japan
My wii u gamepad suddenly died for no reason? It was working fine like an hour ago or 2 ago and now it's just completely dead. Anyone have any ideas what might have happened? [editline]24th May 2016[/editline] Nevermind for some reason it just stopped charging for some reason despite being plugged in all the time. Weird.
I'm probably going to pick up Fates before summer holiday kicks in. It would be cool if the EU version fixed some of the problems the US version had, but personally I won't be that bothered if it just uses the US translation. Also, for all the EU people that want to discuss Fates, should we bump the Fire Emblem thread or are we just going to discuss it here? Edit: yay 100th post :neat:
I never really played a Kirby game before so I assumed Dedede was the Bowser of the series.
Off the top of my head and in no order- Dedede Nightmare Dark Matter Dark Matter Swordsman 0 0^2 Dark Nebula Gryll Marx/Nova Dark Mind Daroach Drawcia Claycia Yin Yarn Necrodis Magolor Sectonia Dark Matter/Dark Matter Swordsman are spawns of 0, and 0^2 is 0's soul after you killed him. Dark Nebula is also a fragment of 0 that was left over so... he's technically been in the most games as the villain at this point. Said it before but Kirby is the series that has the most straightforward overarching story in the series :v: y'just don't expect it because the games are typically cute little romps for the most part.

Yo, Kirby 64 got friggin' dark. It was the most saccharine thing for most of the game, but then you had utter terror mixed in. It's also one of those N64 games I grew up thinking no one else played before going online and finding a lot of people love it. That and Bomberman 64.

We never owned it, but rented it a few times, so I'm familiar with the music mostly, and some of the stages, but I never played it all the way through. That said Is fantastic.
I like how the Kirby series is basically the Gintama of Nintendo franchises. collectively it's above-average and there isn't many obscure or games that are debatably bad. like Squeak Squad may be disliked but not outright hated, but that's only due to being a tad easy and plain compared to previous games. (Canvas Curse, Amazing Mirror, Kirby 64, Super Star) when obscurity is concerned it's probably Kirby Avalanche, Tilt N Tumble and Dream Course. not to say that Kirby underperforms or suffers from infrequent releases, but they often play the slow and steady game with quite a few A (or maybe AA) games. Kirby originally started off thin but the graphics were good for what they were at the time, probably grew much better from Nightmare in Dream Land onwards since it introduces Meta Knight and characterizing Dedede as someone who was evil but only to hold down a greater evil. continuity isn't really a problem, there's only a few times where games will purposely reference previous ones like Dream Land 2, 3 and The Crystal Shards/64. and maybe Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot. judging from western reception to Robobot, it sounds like it could be one of the more definitive Kirby games in recent memory. Contrast it to the Mario Bros series where it thrives on averageness+worldwide appeal and only changing the power ups used within the sidescrolling games. Miyamoto probably has such grips on Mario that they won't take any dangerous risks where they lead to severely polarizing games (thankfully spinoffs) Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Golf 3DS, Paper Mario Sticker Star and probably Color Splash. other than the RPGs and Rosalina's importance in Galaxy 1...have they made any signifigant process in how a game feels thematically? obviously also Bowser Jr, however he had a Scrappy-Doo syndrome partially due to Sunshine being almost fully voice acted which makes the Mario characters jarring. it could be just that he was introduced during a period where they tried adding new characters to the franchise like Waluigi, Rosalina and E Gadd. To a lesser extent, they really should announce Pikmin 4 other than a passing mentioning. hoping that there's night time segments, the return of dungeons from 2, Light Pikmin and make the game less puzzlish/railroaded than 3. Pikmin 3 feels like the original Ruby/Sapphire compares to G/S/C.
Bomberman 64 is the shit
squeak squad is hated? i loved that game wtf
Is that why the Squeaks don't appear anymore? Aside from a cameo in Mass Attack, I was hoping they'd become mainstream characters.
Kirby had that weird period where characters seemed a bit more pastel-based or more cartoonish which made Squeak Squad and Mass Attack unusual. the Squeaks didn't seem that major and only appeared as minor obstacles for treasure chests other than Daroach. unsure how Mass Attack compares though since i never played the game. maybe the Squeaks just didn't appeal to me because they were just treasure thieves. At least other antagonists tends to either be jerks, unhumanized creatures or beings that happened to have tragic backstories. like Marx is thematically thinner than the Squeaks, however backstabbing Kirby and transforming into a boss gave him the edge, he doesn't even have the honor of coming back to life (canonically*) since Meta Knightmare Ultra restored NOVA from the fragments but not restroring the outer damage Kirby caused when he blew up the core. it probably helps that Super Star added moves for almost every ability based on circumstance or movement, great music, bosses and lots of modes. Dark Matter? bit of mindless matter given form, fuelled by jealousy who can inflict a corrupting plague. probably has no motivation or desires...it just lives. Kirby games just temporarily became more thematic and having side characters being involved in 2/3 were good things, but weirdly doesn't appear in 64. Sectonia in Triple Deluxe? vain queen who eventually became jaded [sp]actually corrupted by a Dimensional Mirror which Taranza gave to her as a gift[/sp] double-ultra-future spoilers [sp]which apparently either mutated her into what she is, or her DNA were accelerated by a thousand years. which could be realistic since She and Taranza are insectoid aliens. evolution could be exerted much quicker for them[/sp]. then you have Dark Matter in Squeak Squad....it doesn't even explain why Dedede has it sealed up inside a chest, let alone even mention WHO put it in there. ENTIRE ROBOBOT SPOILERS, INCLUDES AFTERGAME: [sp]Max Profitt Haltmann lost his daughter somehow and became engrossed in his work, developing techology to bring her back. somehow he had a Galactic Nova of his own which was probably a power source for the Drills/Terraformers. he eventually mind melds with the computer but the system itself assumes his soul and attaches itself to the Nova. his daughter is Susie.[/sp] [sp]after all that's ended you fight clones of Dark Swordsman (noted, the system was only to constitute it's physical form and not it's unimaginable power), Sectonia (notes the 1k year old DNA) and even pulls Galacta Knight from time and space in Meta Knightmare Returns. Galacta Knight even destroys the computer system and gets thrown back in it's prison....eerily showing the Lor Starcutter flying by inside the gash[/sp] * Yes, im aware of Marx Soul. but considering Galacta Knight's appearance as a boss in Return to Dream Land, they're probably going to keep him around. vaguely recall Marx even laughing at the bloopers which gives off a "It's a play" vibe. maybe Pseudo-Canon if for some reason they want to bring him back. NOVA didn't blow up when Meta Knight defeated Galacta Knight, and NOVA didn't explode a 2nd time. Meta Knight's adventures took place shortly after Kirby defeated Marx. only small flaw is the Halberd not yet being capsized underwater. and remained that way until Squeak Squad when you got to Gamble Galaxy. split timelines? loose events?...who knows, maybe the Halberd floated for a few days before it sunk.
http://e3.nintendo.com/#section-zelda Nintendo's E3 site up.
"Section-Zelda" i'm clicking on that and expecting just a big picture of Link and maybe a panel that says "THAT'S ALL WE GOT" nope it's not that. looks... ok, i guess.
-Deep Complex Kirby Lore-
The Dark Matter in Squeak Squad was called Dark Nebula and was supposedly the ruler of the underworld sealed away in a chest. No idea how that worked. In the japanese version it was the lord of Dark as a reference to Nightmare, but it was also called Dark 0. So I really don't know what the hell is up with it.
I just assumed that the Ancients were a prosperous race, then somehow attracted the attention of Dark Matter and probably attacked them. afterwards, their creations became OOParts on planets on the dimension where Pop Star inhabits. would explain how they have the power to make things like NOVA but the inability to produce a fully [sp]functioning clone of Dark Matter's Swordman form[/sp]. The Power Paintbrush was probably just used to create beings, and someone used it to produce Drawcia which grew vengeful until it warped Pop Star. if unchecked, their artifacts causes madness to those who own them like what happened to [sp]Magolor with the Crown[/sp] and [sp]Sectonia with a dimensional mirror[/sp]. i'd like to assume that Kirby may be an anolmaly of a Universe hence why the Grey Kirby in Amazing Mirror [sp]turned out to be neutral, or even good[/sp] whilst the Mirror World is more of a distortion, creating an overzealous Meta Knight and a composite monster. Because Dark Mind seems to have that Dark Matter/Nightmare-esque asthetic. Might even be big if it turned out that Nightmare was once an Ancient, but got corrupted by a part of Dark Matter, before he turned, he sealed Dark Nebula/Dark 0 inside a chest, Dedede gets the star rod just to keep him in check. since Dark 0 wasn't fully killed, he had to be killed by the Star Block which Daroach picked up from somewhere. maybe growing immunities? you tend to only manage to defeat Dark Matter in small forms or with fantastical weapons. the main Dark Matter might not even be the largest chunk. EDIT: The Mirror Universe would play similarly to the Nightmare/Dark Nebula thing, except he integrated entirely. this means Dedede grew more agressive and feral and Meta Knight probably follows Dark Mind's doctrine. assuming the [sp]Dimensional mirrors[/sp] are connected, Shadow Dedede would be the Mirror World's counterpart to the original Dedede. Dark Meta Knight retains his name in both English and Japan but Shadow Dedede was called Black Dedede. it's possible that Meta Knight was just corrupted if slightly misguided whilst Black Dedede is Dedede who given into evil and became monstrous. (equivalent of comparing Dark, Evil or even Corrupted) Meta Knight is a chivalrous knight in Original, but lacks it in Mirror World, so that makes him a Dark Version. (he doesn't even throw a sword to Kirby)
I actually really liked the Anime backstory for Kirby where Nightmare was the one that created him, but Kirby rebelled against him.
I actually really liked the Anime backstory for Kirby where Nightmare was the one that created him, but Kirby rebelled against him.
I'm pretty sure that was just a theory as to where Kirby came from that was thrown around in the third episode of the series because in the next episode "Dark and Stormy Knight", Meta knight told Tiff that Kirby was [sp]actually a baby star warrior that was woken up prematurely when his ship detected that octopus monster in Dreamland[/sp]. Also, Star Fox co-creator Dylan Cuthbert recently streamed himself playing Star Fox Zero and gave some pretty interesting bits of info while playing. Let the madness continue.
Now they just need to get Yugi, Ash, Agumon, a tamagotchi and a pog and we can have the most 90s Japan crossover possible.
