gamexplain seems to think federation force is pretty good
no idea how credible or w/e they are

Another positive review from GoNintendo. Here's their closing statement:
All in all, I was actually quite blown away by Metroid Prime: Federation Force. I was expecting to get an enjoyable experience, but I've come away with a true appreciation for the game. The more I played, the more angry I got about just how poor the public reaction has been! There could sadly be a lot of people that skip this title due to some bad feelings they conjured up from a reveal trailer.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force is certainly a spin-off game for the franchise, but the important thing is that it FEELS like a Metroid game. It also brings in a lot of unique wrinkles and twists to the Prime-style experience, which is just what a good spin-off should do. As far as presentation and gameplay go, this really is a top-notch experience. If you were worried about going it alone, you really don't have to feel that way anymore. My solo play with the game has only made me more eager to jump back in with real people. The bulk of the missions were fun enough for me to want to revisit for side objectives and a different challenge with friends.
As I said earlier, I also am quite eager for another traditional Metroid game. I want to see Prime 4 announced and lose my mind with excitement. I'm sure that's going to happen at some point. I'm just not going to take that desire and let it blind me to other experiences that come out along the way. Metroid Prime: Federation Force may not be the Metroid game we initially wanted, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. My time with this game has given me something to look forward to. Now I'd like a sequel to Federation Force!
Metroid Prime: Federation Force is an expertly crafted, action-packed experience from start to finish. If you can push the roar of the angry internet out of your head and just experience this game for what it is, I'm confident that you'll come away quite impressed. A no-brainer for Metroid fans and 3DS owners alike.
Bolded part is my emphasis. I think that's probably the best endorsement imaginable if you consider the circumstances around the hate in the first place: "Sure, we all want a Prime 4 and a Metroid 5, but now I want a Federation Force 2 as well!"
Also, the ending of the game basically confirms they still want to do more work on the series- [sp]Remember when Kensuke Tanabe mentioned Sylux as the guy following Samus after Prime 3? The end of Federation Force shows them going and awakening a Metroid egg in captivity. Even if Federation Force bombs, I truly believe they'll want to make a Prime 4 after that, especially after all the fan demand.[/sp]
Honestly I think the prime series ended on a fine note, let's have a grand scale 2D Metroid for the console/NX
and do it in this art style

I always thought this heavy shadow style they went for in the cutscenes of Zero Mission perfectly fit Metroid's atmosphere.

Japan-only. The star fox one looks very nice.
In the new exciting metroid game Samus curls up into a ball and cries while you shoot her until she dies.

While Nintendo has left you high and dry, Metroid fans, at least Arby's remembered.

How long until Arby's gets a C&D?
Well yeah. We knew since E3 2015 that Federation Force will tie into a future Prime game. I've said as much before in this very thread.
*snip, no? alright*

I did not know about these two things. That kinda cements it, huh?
i wonder if Sakamoto was promised by Iwata back in the mid 2000s that he could have his turn after Retro had finished their current arc with the Prime games. once he was done, and once Retro had the time and resources, they could swing back into the next major game while Next Level Games was contracted to put out a stopgap.
It's the reason why I never got the "five years after Other M and this is all they have?!" hate. Like - the entire point of FF's reveal was to imply the exact opposite of that. We know they're making Prime 4 - or whatever the next big Prime ends up being called - whether they showed us a teaser back then or not, because they outright said, "Yes, this game is the setup for a new Prime arc. Phazon/Dark Samus is done, but there will be future Prime games that expand upon story elements from Federation Force and the Hunters tie-in at the end of Corruption."
Federation Force is your teaser. I said as much five months ago.
Didn't Reggie say there was a Metroid game coming on NX?
Didn't Reggie say there was a Metroid game coming on NX?
Kind of, they did say that the next Metroid game is going to be released on Nintendo's next home console. That was like 2 years in on the Wii U lifecycle.
Oh man.
The final boss of Federation Force is . . . . . . .
[sp]Samus, who has been made 8 times bigger by the space pirates and proceeds to do nothing but roll around in a ball as a fight. She shrinks down after you defeat her morph ball of doom, although it's clearly not explained why they didn't just . . . . you know . . . . . kill the person that has plagued their existence for years????[/sp]
You literally [sp]celebrate Metroid's anniversary by shooting Samus, who was apparently too weak to escape the mooks of the series[/sp]

I don't personally care for the Metroid series, but wow that is fucking awful.

Retro's next game is coming for NX and it's supposed to be a science fiction game.

i mean I'm assuming it will be an NX game but source on it being scifi?

I'd rather retro do something new, either a brand new IP or a nintendo franchise that retro hasn't tackled yet
I really wish those DS series featured only 1 screen that does everything.
2 screens are too fidgety, difficult to focus on both at a time, not to mention its just a battery-wasting gimmick. The flipping mechanism could break. Also a waste of processing power to render 2 screens, while only 1 screen actually do anything significant.
Just make 1 big bright touch 3D screens please. Now that PS Vita is scrapped, they don't have to do that dual screen gimmick anymore.

I don't mind the double screens myself, to be honest. It's nice having secondary information out of the way, things like getting the map out of the way in Hyrule Warriors, having move selection down there in Pokemon, using it to navigate menus in Persona 4, or dealing with the UI Clutter in the Monster Hunter games. And then it's a HUGE boon for the Fire Emblem games, always having your unit information up, instead of having to constantly toggle between gameplay and menus, makes the whole game smoother, and shaves off a lot of wasted time
I'm glad I waited to buy ace attorney. Trilogy edition is 50% off and dual destinies is 60% off right now.

Also I beat professor layton and the unwound future earlier. I love these games.

It doesn't use a whole lot of processing power. The lower screen is 2D 99% of the time which is mostly static with stats which uses fuck all. And it uses the original DS as a co-processor so its even more moot. Performance problems are simply because they are using a 2009 era mobile GPU. It is absolutely ancient. The battery life is debatable.
Also, the "dual-screen gimmick" wasn't to keep people interested in the system over the PSP. Its hardly news now that its been a thing for 12 years. People genuinely like it because it means less needless flipping through menu's that occupy your entire screen and less of a need to cram UI into one screen.
Also the folding mechanism naturally protects the screens from scratches. Other than the DS Lite, its not a common thing to completely break for no reason.
I don't know if you guys already knew about this, but I just found out that this was a thing.

It sure as hell would have been nice if we had gotten this + the other 64DD stuff.

Its a shame the 64DD wasn't what the N64 used in the first place. I don't know if it would have outsold the PSone, but it would have been a much bigger threat.

Did you think I was kidding earlier
Tokyo Mirage Sessions was originally going to be a Fire Emblem x Pokemon crossover

People have discovered that they had very alpha 64DD support in the Wii U Virtual Console. However, nobody got anything running because it was missing stuff iirc. It would be nice if they rerelease the 64DD library on the NX VC considering how small that shit was anyway
Speaking of Virtual Console, if the hybrid rumor is true about the NX then we could possibly see a huge selection of Virtual Console games. NES, SNES, Game Boy + Color/Advance, N64, maybe Genesis, PC-Engine, Gamecube... however judging from how crap they handled the Wii U's selection I'm not so sure.

Yeah its Nintendo, they'll fuck it up somehow. Im very pessimistic about Nintendo nowadays so im not posting much about NX until we see what it is and what they plan on doing with it.

Why is this suddenly popping up in articles again? We've known this for ages, right down to the "Pokemon Conquest was why it was shelved".
