General Nintendo Discussion V5 - The Future of Nintendo

Kirby lore is so stupidly tied together that it's hard to even begin. (Just hitting the main points here)
Like at first it was just Dedede being a dick and building a castle and taking all the food- Kirby beat him up and that's the last time Dedede was "evil." (Kirby's first game)
After that nightmares kept popping up and Kirby visits the Spring of Dreams (because nobody can sleep with constant nightmares) and finds him lounging in the spring and assumes that the penguin's up to no good. Turns out Dedede got to the Nightmare first and the only idea he could come up with was to seal it in the fountain (making things worse) and he was just lazing about trying to make sure it stayed sealed. Final boss was the two of them working together somewhat to beat the hell out of Nightmare.
Fresh off that victory the sun and moon start fighting and Marx, tiny lil imp dude, pleads that Kirby finds NOVA- a huge ass living clockwork star that grants wishes and use it to get the two celestial bodies to stop. As Kirby approaches it and is ready to make his wish Marx comes out of fuggin' nowhere and demands he gets turned into Popstar's king and gets to rule it. NOVA turns him into a even bigger super powered asshole and the two rush off to Popstar where the sun and moon (assuming it's Mr Bright and Mr Shine) stop to hold NOVA back. Kirby trashes NOVA and Marx and just heads to bed because man that wasn't worth it.
Then Dark Matter showed up and possessed Dedede and learned the concept of jealousy and whatnot (over Kirby's fame). It then tried to "help" Dedede by taking his body over and Kirby had to literally pound it out of him and then sword fight it in the sky which just pissed it off leading to Dream Land 3 where 0 showed up. 0 Killed itself in a bloody shower to try to kill Kirby and it was over... except not really as 0 just decided to go fuck with other planets instead leading to 64. Popstar just wasn't worth it. You literally hunt down 0's soul and destroy it at the end of the game.
Amazing Mirror then took place in the downtime, a strange artifact showed up and was spitting out evil copies of things and Meta Knight went to check it out and wound up getting trapped himself. Kirby went in to save him and it's seemingly just a random story thing.
Squeak Squad and Mass Attack happened and they're kinda not connected to anything (outside SS's final boss being called Dark 0) and we got Returns to Dreamland next which had Magolor talk about the NOVA star's Marx was after back in Super Star. Apparently a ancient race was super advanced and shitting these wish granting planetoids out and they developed a crown that could make you godlike, he of course heard this from Marx himself back in the day (it's implied). Magolor shits the bed when he gets the crown and gets beat up though goes on to actually become a staple buddy and build theme parks. (Dream Collection and a few minigames in triple deluxe are his creations.)
Triple Deluxe comes out and starts grasping games even further back to pull them in. Drawcia, the villain of Canvas Curse has a sister named Paintra it turns out and a mysterious artist brought them to life for unknown reason before escaping with his or her own paint brush. Magolor has opened up Dedede's Drum Dash also. Kirby goes on his adventure and clears it but there's actually a story that's unspoken behind Dedede Tour. (For Keychains sake as it's a fun surprise) [sp]Dedede gets word from a cleanup crew that there's something evil going on back at the Sectonia throne room and finds out the Amazing Mirror was stored there (a thing that's known to create evil clones of things) and heads out to shatter it.[/sp]
The leads to Robobot which I've been avoiding most spoilers on but what I've seen picks up the story almost directly after Dedede Tour in Triple Deluxe.
Bomberman 64 is a weird one for me. We never owned it, but rented it a few times, so I'm familiar with the music mostly, and some of the stages, but I never played it all the way through. That said

Is fantastic.
bomberman hero has great music as well.
Bomberman Hero had one good song (Telephone) and it repeated that song so many times that you should hate it by the end of the game.
Hero in general was just traaaash. Second Attack is where it's at.

Let the madness continue.
Crouch jumping with her must look stupid as fuck.
I can't wait to boot the game up just to make hell-o kitty and it's just nonstop lava and brimstone
I can't wait to read all of this Kirby lore discussion once Robobot comes out.
Kirby is the best so I don't mind it at all.
Kirby is the Dark Souls of Nintendo in terms of lore approach.
You got to pause the game at certain times and just read to connect the dots by yourself. It's fun.
Actually, Prime did the same where exploring and scanning rewarded you with bits and hints on the events that occurred before Samus' arrival. Probably my favorite style of storytelling really.
Bomberman 64 is the shit
I love that game, but one thing that I never knew is there was a secret world (Rainbow Palace), that you unlock by getting the gold cards on the previous worlds. Took me a decade to find out about it.
Ah, here's the thread. Last one was on April 13.

The best part was hearing about the space pirate science team's many fuckups.

I've mentioned this before, but one of the best parts about the Prime games for me is winding down after a session, heading back to the ship, and just reading through all the new logs I've collected while drinking coffee before I save and turn it off. I can just imagine Samus herself doing that in the cockpit.

And getting those Gold Cards is goddamn excruciating. Especially the ones in Rainbow Palace. The bouncing-bomb contraptions you have to set up to get some of them are absurd. Best hope you came in with a remote control, 'cuz you ain't getting them otherwise.

"Vapor for brains"
The Prime games were surprisingly funny at points.

Their attempts at recreating the morph ball took the cake.

I just assume that Dedede's characterization could be justified if you assume that Spring Breeze removes Kirby's Dream Land from continuity and place it as a reinmagining from Super Star Ultra. you don't fight Kaboola in Spring Breeze but you do fight her in Revenge of the King which also provides her a retroactive appearence change. by beating Dedede in Gourmet race, he either started to fear Kirby or became petty, greedily witholding food from the rest of Dreamland, not taking into consideration that everyone was going to STARVE.
Spring Breeze/Revenge of the King could be a two-fold retcon, establishing that the events of Dream Land happened in some places such as food being stolen, whilst Revenge of the King introduces Masked Dedede as a form of Bonus Boss which could be sidestepped as being fanservice, for later games to use as core content. bottom of the line, you just have to imagine that Kirby's Dream Land did have Kaboola with female eyes but Dedede only having a basic wrestling match.
Afterwards the events of Dynablade occurs as is, you knock her out and you feed her chicks, she eventually pays back the favor in Revenge of Meta Knight by flying you back to the Halberd after being thrown off. depending on things, possibly the events went Revenge of Meta Knight > Milky Way Wishes > Meta Knightmare Ultra > Kirby's Adventure/Nightmare In Dream Land. the reason because of Meta Knight's polarizing alignment was because he only wanted Dreamland to be more self-reliant instead of squandering in laziness....which is startling since they didn't do anything when they were starving to death.
Through the convictions of Kirby, he finds out that perhaps the land has a chivalrous hero who could protect the planet from threats....though Meta Knight seeking revenge on Kirby when he's riding off of the Halberd during the escape sequence seems extremely out of character for him if taking the theorized chronology into account. this justifies why you don't see the Halberd at all until Squeak Squad, the Meta-Knights probably haven't been seen in a major role since Adventure with Squeak Squad's Kirby Quest and Strato Patrol EOS minigames.....[sp]and Planet Robobot in Meta Knightmare Returns as a special attack[/sp]
I like to think that Kirby's Adventure was after Marx was defeated, since the Sun/Moon reforged their friendship and became Mr Shine and Mr Bright. Meta Knight founded the Meta-Knights to prevent Kirby from freeing Nightmare because he thinks that he might not have the power to take him on.
Side details: Kirby's cellphone from The Amazing Mirror could be the one he found during the Great Cave Offensive (in Ultra) but never really utilized until he actually needed it. it just coincidentally split into 4 phones when he got split into 4 Kirbies. it's slightly debatable if minigames are canon, guess it really dpeends if their plot is used, other than Magolor being alive in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe whereas before he was only seen alive in Kirby's Dream Collection.
EDIT: I also forgot that in Meta Knightmare Returns, it also retcons the fact that he always had Master/Galaxia. if it was taking the Anime as partial canon, he couldn't be using the blade for villainy...can't even recall if he used it in his boss fight in Ultra, but you personally could use his moves in MKR.
I've said it before but it is kinda funny to think that Kirby games are this connected with a story.
Mario has no real plot threads.
DKC doesn't really after the first couple games (for the best)
Zelda is seen as the story series as it usually has typical adventure plots
But the secret champ is the Kirbs. It's just a shame nobody usually takes it seriously and just writes it off as a joke because there is some interesting world building stuff hidden throughout the games. It's just when your character is nothing but a smiling pink ball in a sugary setting (at the start anyway) it's hard to treat seriously. I'm glad for it though because it makes stuff like 0^2 all the more shocking when it shows up.
Miyamoto probably has such grips on Mario that they won't take any dangerous risks where they lead to severely polarizing games (thankfully spinoffs) Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Golf 3DS, Paper Mario Sticker Star and probably Color Splash.
Golf 3DS owned tho

Wait, isn't that the game that you needed the actual letter to proceed through? How's that going to work, will the e-manual just tell you what to do?
Oh snap, StarTropics? TriforceBun will be overjoyed.
I'm surprised they even remember it, considering neither it nor the sequel got Japanese releases. In fact, looking them up, it seems they already got Wii VC releases; how about that. Even the Wii U has had them in PAL regions for a few months now.
Wait, isn't that the game that you needed the actual letter to proceed through? How's that going to work, will the e-manual just tell you what to do?
They already ported StarTropics and StarTropics 2 (Zoda's Revenge) to the original Wii's virtual console years ago. The way it does it is that you can go to the manual and there is an interactive sheet of paper that has a tiny animation that reveals the secret. Said sheet of paper is purposely yellowed in the manual to make it stand out.

Are those just prototypes or are they going to have transparent bases?
If so, man they should have done that for all amiibos except Smash Bros.

I'm at least 70% sure those are just prototypes meant to show off the figurine, because I'm not seeing an RFID in those bases.
I hope the cat gets into a car accident.
I don't know who told them it was a good idea.

His character design looks really horrid. Why couldn't he just have been a normal Felyne? I mean Felyne's are just cats that walk upright, wield weapons and wear funny hats, but they work, damn it
Seriously though. The scaled down Monsters and Hunters look just fine, I don't have a problem with them at all. That Felyne deisgn though, I don't know who thought that was okay
the dumbest part is that the felynes already had a chibi-esque design that they could of reused that looks way better

Finally an Amiibo line I don't have an overwhelming urge to buy!
I'll probably get either the Boy or Girl in the Rathalos, but I ain;t getting the Feline. That one's ugly.
