Amiibo support?
Amiibo support?
They're in the Mario scene so yeah no doubt
On the contrary, if the sticks were symmetrical both players could rotate their controllers counter-clockwise and get the sticks, shoulder buttons, and -/+ on the left and the diamonds on the right. Here only the stick and diamond stay in the same spot because P2 has to rotate their controller clockwise. On top of that, P2's stick is now further in and the diamond is closer to the edge, which wouldn't be the case if the sides were symmetrical.
But then one player would have basically a different controller shape which might be less comfortable to hold because of the corners going into your hands. That would create a whole heap of problems with people simply not wanting to take the second controller.

God damn, the Japanese love their squid kids.

Yeah, at the very end there's a bunch of the Mario series sitting next to it.
I would like to see Amiibos become big again. At one point everyone stopped caring about them and most stores just outright stopped restocking them outside of releases.

That's true with the current 'D' shape to retain the round corners of the Wii U GamePad, but - although it might look less sleek - if the sides were more uniform in shape, this wouldn't be as much of a problem. I'm not saying the corners have to be fully rectangular, but...
Egh, hold on. I'm-a go sketch it up.
-snip, double checked how the controllers look-

Who doesn't? Having Splatoon on launch/ launch window is a massive draw for the console.
-stop-
This is what I mean.

To further increase the parity, the hard and round corners could be made closer together in shape and the -/+ and Home/[whatevertheotherthingis] buttons can be aligned to the Joy-Cons' center axes. But symmetrical makes a whole lot more sense design-wise, especially if they intend to use the Joy-Cons as their own controllers.
Everyone in the trailer was an adult, hopefully this could mean a shift in their demographics and actually recognizing their target audience.
[editline]i should try to explain things better[/editline]
Ok I probably put this the wrong way.
Whilst I don't mean to imply that the consoles are only for adults, the majority of WiiU owners where older players but their marketing at the time was still directed towards younger players and families.
I only wonder how the controller pairing works. Will it be possible to get 3rd party controllers for just one side? It'd be great to have the option to have a proper d-pad, and the analog stick down under it instead.
Kind of amazing we got shots of new Mario, Mario Kart, and Splatoon, just casually, no big deal, here's this lineup
I've never understood the mindset that "only adults play video games" I am pretty sure most of us played video games when we were kids. How would we have felt back then if no one marketed to us?
I hope TO GOD that there's something like DS Download Play.
On top of the other things, consider that the Joy-Cons likely have motion sensors in them. Wouldn't you want them to be as close as possible to each other in button layout when held vertically?
Maybe a third party or even nintendo could create an addon controller that makes it symmetrical? If it's easy to replicate and pair or nintendo wants to step up to the plate of comfort they could create additional controllers.

Those seem like they'd be awkward as hell to use if you had the 2 controllers separate for 2 player mode. They'd be right under your left hand in a way that it'd be kinda hard to press them when you want and avoid pressing when you don't want to.
Was that Zelda Williams in the Mario part of the Switch trailer? Kinda looked like her.
Boy I hope the mechanical parts for those things are up to snuff, and I hope the battery life for those joy cans are good because juggling separate battery powered controllers sounds like a pain in the dick too, like one half of your controller can potentially go out on you.
I hope Skyrim showing up is not going to be like those Batman, Assassin's Creed announcement for Wii U - when a few mainstream 3rd party games got released and then everybody stopped caring

Skyrim's presence on the Switch makes me more optimistic for third party support. Bethesda never even toyed with the idea of developing for the Wii U and has never really made any games on Nintendo systems before. If they're on board, then they must really like what they see.

Also I just realized that the Switch would make it possible to have a true, mobile version of Minecraft. Not something like the watered down Pocket Edition, but a full Minecraft experience on the go. That'd be a great selling point to aim at kids.
I just realized that requiring the Switch to be docked (and that the dock covers the screen) means that there's going to be no aux-screen capability anymore. That's a real shame.
The new hairstyles are awesome and all, but people are overlooking one very important detail.

I seriously wonder what this is, a port of splatoon to the NS? a sequel? a huge upcoming content update?

Little late there :v:

The Japanese Splatoon twitter account said something along the lines of a new breed of squid, along with the shots of what looks like an Urchin Underpass redesign. So I'm thinking new game.

Gonna be a port with a bunch of new content. Wii-U version is officially "dead"
