Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VIII. At The End

Heaven forbid new designs are tried out instead or recycling every weapon for the sequel
The problem is greatswords and ultragreatswords in DS1 had destinct advantages and disadvantages. Because they were designed to be mostly realistic, as were the other weapons, they had very wide arcs and very long range on their attacks, this made them very safe weapons. The drawbacks are that they consume a fuckton of stamina to use, and they'd quite slow. In DS2 they decided for no reason to scale up the greatswords and change nothing else, so now you have polearms being out ranged by swords and anyone with a small or medium sized weapon has double the distance to cover to even reach the greatsword user.
Also they look stupid as hell. Smough's Hammer is a fucking fantasy weapon wielded by a god, a Zweihander is a real sword it should be scaled to around the size of the actual weapon.
tensions are high as the intervening month drags on. we'll all be dead within a week
Some people have not accepted Berserk into their lives I see.
The nice thing is that many of the weapons in Dark Souls 3 that have appeared in previous Souls titles revert to their Dark Souls 1 movesets.
Yeah, and in DS2 they were made almost twice as large. The Greatsword in DS2 has more mass than the character wielding it. I was saying greatswords and Ultra-greatswords in DS1 were fine and DS2 made them stupid.
The closest thing to the ultra-greatswords in DS2 is the Dragon Bone Smasher from Demon's Souls, and that was a weapon which was used to make fun of the stupidly large and unwieldy swords you see in anime.
DS2 was just ridiculous in terms of its weapons and movesets. Really detracted from the quality of the experience after DS1, IMO.
Another thing, probably has been said. In DS1, when you character would swing a greatsword one handed, you could see the effort the character was going through. His core would move, and his whole body would move just to propel the blade. In DS2 the character swung the blade side to side with almost ease. The only swing that looked like it required effort was the golf swing.
well duh
ultra greatswords aren't actually damaging, in fact, all of them are made from styrofoam
enemiesreact to it not in pain, but in pure and utter confusion towards the fact that they have just gotten hit by a giant styrofoam sword being held by a dude wearing a gyrm boxers, a fire demon's helmet, golden bracelets, and a pair of stylish witch heels to the point where it's sorta like the matrix and the thought of them being damaged actually causes damage

He played this far and didn't know he can't homeward bone during online play? Jesus lol
Yeah, those trick weapons in bloodborne are so feasible.
Also to tack onto this statement, didn't some dudes already forge an actual hunter saw that can actually do the trick.
So yeah it's pretty feasible, just not as agile as you'd think.

You could probably also make stuff like Ludwig's Holy Blade work if you had a locking mechanism and a release switch built into the blade and scabbard.
The only weapon I don't see being feasible that isn't arcane or some shit is the Kirkhammer because it's just way too heavy to use in a fight in real life.
You'd might as well just get a machete, velcro it to a sledgehammer and you'd get the same results for like 60 dollars
after seeing those new armor sets:
[sp]oh god I need the eastern armor, and that great knife looks brutal[/sp]
Is using Darkmoon blade in DS1 PVP considered cheap? I cast it with my quality build (With 35 Faith) and it nearly doubled the damage of my +15 claymore, I wrecked a couple of giantdads without taking more than one hit.

Also if anyone, like me, was interested in the music from the IGN trailer, here it is.

Could you elaborate on this? I'm curious
If we put aside the weapons fueled by "magic", of course

Which ones would work? Maybe the Cane? The others would have places that would likely be incredibly weak, like the midpoint on the Bowblade or whatever holds the sword into the Kirkhammer/LHB. Even if you could make the general idea work, it'd fall apart as soon as you started swinging it around.
That said, I don't care, it's a game and it's a fun mechanic that gives each weapon more character.

well that's the thing, it's incredibly heavy and not usable as a weapon at all in the video

it can do the trick but it's pretty much unusable without the blade folded out and the mechanism + the gripless design of the handle makes it stupid heavy and unwieldy to the point you can only really drop it on things

None of the Bloodborne weapons would really work or function in real life. Maybe minus the church pick, Tonitrus, stake driver?
You're forgetting that characters in souls games get retard strength
Remember this thing?

It's the same in DS1 too. Large club - used by those huge infested barbarians but you can still swing it around one handed
if soul level visually affected your character anyone above 40 strength would look like if Hafthor Bjornsson was an NBA all-star
you would have to be literally infinity feet tall to swing this shit

It's funny, but the Souls games tend to indicate an enemy's power level in a sense by their size. Ornstein and Smough come to mind. And Artorias. Gwyn was huge too, but he was hollowed when we found him. I bet he'd have been a colossus if faced at his full power.
I dont remember a literal pile of shit being a weapon in dark 2
is that from scholar?

I'll have you know that that is a chicken drumstick sir.

Iron King DLC has it. It's called the "Chicken Wing", or "Cheetoh" depending on who you ask.

But what about those giant guys in Heide's Tower of Flame that I can kill in like 2 hits compared to the normal size knight dudes that take 6 or 7?
But what about those giant guys in Heide's Tower of Flame that I can kill in like 2 hits compared to the normal size knight dudes that take 6 or 7?
Well, they're the old knights, right? They're not as strong as they supposedly once were, though they retain their stature.
[editline]16th March 2016[/editline]
In all seriousness, without Miyazaki's direction, I can't help but feel that Dark Souls 2 contains a lot of careless mistakes, plot holes, and all-round lack of attention to detail that was seen in the first Souls game. A lot of stuff is there just because it makes for interesting gameplay, and not for lore reasons.

They're actually golems made of styrofoam and balsa wood, obviously.
