Basically every "good" theme was done by Yuka Kitamura. I don't know why, but Motoi Sakuraba was really lacking in 2, despite his good track record and performance in 1. [editline]21st March 2016[/editline] I have no idea what [sp]"Aldritch Faithful", "Rosaria's Fingers", or "Mound-makers"[/sp] are supposed to be. But I doubt it's [sp]dragonbro[/sp] related. But here's hoping.
Again, based kitamura
[sp]What if Aldritch or Rosaria are the name of a Dragon?[/sp]
I can tell you the [sp]Mound-Makers[/sp] are just another invasion covenant of [sp]Insane cultists, apparently.[/sp] Almost certainly not [sp]dragon[/sp] related.
Sir Alonne in particular has the best boss theme in the series to me.
it's good but I never found it very fitting for a fight vs a samurai warrior. I don't think it would have killed fromsoft to reveal a bit of their japanese power level for that music
Covenant spoilers: [sp]Losaria's Fingers are the new Darkwraiths. Losaria is mentioned in the Red Eye Orb.[/sp]
I'm gonna be having a field-day with DS3's character-creator. Probably gonna dick around in the character creator to whip up a few characters before I even begin playing the game itself.

It was a western take on a eastern thing, kinda like how the entire game is a eastern take on a western thing but flippity flipped. I dunno what you mean by japanese power level either, do you mean like that weird flute stuff that happened in Samurai Jack?
Lemme just throw some real talk in here for a quick second. Now, having gone from DS2 to SOTFS I had sorta found it annoying to find later game enemies and larger amounts of harder enemies in one spot, in particular Iron Keep of course. But after playing the harder modes of DMC4, and having these fucking teleporting lightning enemies that take out more of your health than the boss does. I think I can appreciate fighting my 13 alonne knights a little bit more now.
I feel bad for FROM's B-team. In Dark Souls 2 they really seem to have tried their hardest to deliver a good experience and replicate Miyazaki's success in creating Dark Souls 1, but they made several mistakes they wouldn't have without his direction. Miyazaki always made a clear distinction between fair difficulty and 'unreasonable' difficulty. Dark Souls 2 crossed that line several times. Being the troopers we are, we bitched about it but took it in stride, but the way the cards were stacked made the game hell for newcomers to the franchise, and it frankly just wasn't as much fun to play and explore. And the durability bug that the PC version was plagued with for a whole year certainly didn't help at all. The immersion we experienced in the first Dark Souls game was gone, replaced instead by a constant, almost paranoid vigilance for what devious enemy placement specifically designed to punish us we'd encounter next. Enough has been said on Dark Souls 2's poor, linear level design that I need not elaborate further. Then came the fact that the locations of items and weapons which would have had some lore significance under Miyazaki's direction were instead placed solely for gameplay purposes in Dark Souls 2. Then there were the embarrassingly huge greatswords that quickly became a PVP and PVE meta for half the community, even if the overall variety of weapon options was quite nice. Even though Souls 2 improved on some quality-of-life things that Souls 1 was lacking, the community will always see it as mediocre by Souls standards.
fuck the hate dark souls 2 rules
fuck the hate dark souls 2 rules
Ehh. It was fun while it lasted, but compared to Souls 1, distinctly unsatisfying. The third instalment looks like it'll be making up for lost time, though.
I really would love to see the (translated) design documents from earlier on in ds2's development cycle. There were a lot of really interesting ideas that weren't expanded on or cut entirely.
Then there were the embarrassingly huge greatswords that quickly became a PVP and PVE meta for half the community, even if the overall variety of weapon options was quite nice..
The fact that there was a group called "Ultra Greatswords" Always bothered me, it made me feel like great swords were suppose to be standard to the game and the smaller swords were almost thrown away. I had a lot of PVP moments against players with ultragreatswords and greatswords that had no idea what to do against me because I was using a longsword.

And while in the real world UGSes aren't called "Ultra" greatswords, there are certainly two classes of greatswords - The sort that can be wielded in one hand if necessary, and the sort that you pretty much need two hands to effectively wield. What really irritated me about Dark Souls 2's ultra great swords was that they were scaled up to ridiculous proportions. The only weapon that came even slightly close to Dark Souls 2's ultra-greatswords in the previous game was Smough's Hammer, which was meant to be comically huge, impractical because of its high STR requirement, and unwieldy. Where as in Dark Souls 2 those massive swords were swung around like they were made of cardboard and not solid metal. \ Dark Souls 1 Zweihander: Dark Souls 2 Zweihander: Keep in mind that the Zweihander was the smallest of the ultra-greatsword weapons in Dark Souls 2. Fucking ridiculous is what it was.
I'm just hoping that there's a sequel to Bloodborne. There's too much potential for it to just be left alone (and also I want more than one game for my PS4) Please no B-team though
dark souls 2 is for casuls.
i dont like dark souls 2 because its not dark souls 1

Though I do agree there are two styles of greatswords, it just felt unfair that there was so many of them that they dwarfed the selection of smaller swords. Also applies to boss weapons, though it's understandable since you're basically getting the exact weapon they used.
Don't get me wrong, DS2 I amazing, it's still a fantastic game, but it's like Jank Souls 2:We forgot how to design shit Edition.
I feel like the redeeming quality of DS2 was how fluid and smooth everything felt. If I can say though, the Firekeepers at the beginning are extremely annoying
Don't get me wrong, DS2 I amazing, it's still a fantastic game, but it's like Jank Souls 2:We forgot how to design shit Edition.
It's a good game objectively, exactly. It's just bad by the standards of those of us who were spoiled by the first game in the series.
i still want there to be a UGS in DS3 where there's a decent STR requirement but a higher DEX requirement and you swing the thing around and it's so heavy it acts as a counterbalance and you're flipping around with this thing and practically throwing yourself forward attacking with it
I feel like the redeeming quality of DS2 was how fluid and smooth everything felt. If I can say though, the Firekeepers at the beginning are extremely annoying
Try playing Dark Souls 1 in 60FPS using DSfix, it's just as good.
in order to dodge you have to attack with it in the direction you want to move because this fucking thing is so unwieldly
Ehh. It was fun while it lasted, but compared to Souls 1, distinctly unsatisfying. The third instalment looks like it'll be making up for lost time, though.
it was my first souls game and i had such a better time in 2 than 1, and that's what it just comes down to. whichever you played first you will think is better. 2 isnt inherently worse, it's just different.
Try playing Dark Souls 1 in 60FPS using DSfix, it's just as good.
Oh no I definitely agree. I'm currently doing my playthrough on it with DsFix too. Probably me being biased then since I started the soul series with 2, but I do agree Souls 1 feels insanely better and well collected than 2.

But the fact that it was your first Souls game explains why you like it more than the first. [editline]21st March 2016[/editline]
Oh no I definitely agree.
and the fact you played 1 first explains why you like that better too. the logic goes both ways
I guess. But Both Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 have been directed by Miyazaki, who created the Souls series in the first place. The only game in the entire series (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, and now Dark Souls 3) he didn't direct was Dark Souls 2, which is why most Souls series veterans don't like it as much. To us, it's the equivalent of an attempt to make Metal Gear games without Hideo Kojima. The differences were noticeable to us. You may find that you like the third game much better than you liked Dark Souls 2, as it brings back Miyazaki's vision and good design sense, something Souls 2 completely lacked, as well as the lessons learned from 1, 2, and Bloodborne, and more refined combat mechanics.
it was my first souls game and i had such a better time in 2 than 1, and that's what it just comes down to. whichever you played first you will think is better. 2 isn't inherently worse, it's just different.
Demon's was my first , I liked Dark 1 better overall. 2 does fail significantly in areas 1 and Demons had no trouble with. At the same it made more things easier to get through he game with, at the cost of variety, and I can see how that would appeal to some people. It's still a good game, that doesn't reach the same lows as 1. It just doesn't reach the same highs either.
Blame Ken Ashcorp for getting 'The Legend Never Dies' stuck in my head. It just fits the Dark Souls PVP scene so well. Recorded the first stanza earlier today, and now I'm going to bed. Good night, FP.
