this post was a journey from start to finish.
Well my journey with Bloodborne tonight was a fucking rollercoaster. Went from feeling like a man who shits gold when I beat the Shadows of Yharnam in one try to feeling like a real chump when getting smushed by Ludwig for the 74th time.
I don't get it when people say Ludwig's second phase is easier. I can perfect the first phase with a little luck, but unless I use OHB or summon Valtr then I will literally eat shit every single time. The timings on those attacks are just so counter-intuitive. No one should swing a sword so slowly.
Well to be fair she says that while WHILE you're leveling up, not before.
Yeah but that's why it's so much better. Anyone who's played Demon's Souls a fair stretch of time can recite it from memory. Anyone who's played DS2 would be hard pressed to remember what the Maiden in Black says before leveling up.

Yeah but you have quick, wide swinging moves and a charge that, imo, is really easy to miss the telegraph for versus slow, hugely telegraphed moves that can take a second to get to you if you're at range. Not to mention the opportunities for vicerals.

You can visceral him in both phases.
Though, I think what kills it for me is that I am very bad at dealing with tracking. I always keep trying to circlestrafe and then end up with bad positioning because of it.
Fuck Valley of Defilement. That is all.

He has a really wide double swing that is really hard to dodge due to he second arm also hitting you, and is super aggressive. His second form is arguably less aggressive and has lots of telegraphic moves imo

If you mean the one where he lunges forward and swipes horizontally with both claws, that one isn't hard to dodge. In fact, it is one of his easier ones to punish because of its recovery. If you dodge toward him just as he swipes, you'll go through and be at his stomach area.
It is true that there's a lot of telegraphed moves in the second phase, but to say it is less aggressive is disagreeable. He is constantly swinging, only taking a break to do those big AoEs. He also tracks much more severely in his second phase compared to his first.

In my experience anyway, whenever I'm summoned for the fight the host always dies on the first form and hardly on the second. I've never tried dodging towards his stomach lmao that should've been obvious
I'm late as heck but my problem with levelling up at the hub is that it's a major fucking waste of my time.
I just want to play the game. If I want to return to the hub for whatever reason I'll do that, but you have no idea of how appreciative I was that DS1 let me play the game instead of forcing me to haul my ass to seven different places to do something as meaningless as put one point in my Endurance or upgrade my weapon from +2 to +3.
It still made me go back to modify weapons, but that was decently acceptable since it was a major choice in an of itself, but I could've also done without that. I really do want to just play the game and all this teleporting nonsense just gets in the way of it big time.
It's so strange, but Dark Souls III and Dark Souls have such a radically different feel than Dark Souls II. Miyazaki's creative style really can't be mimicked.

The first phase is more dangerous in regards to damage done in a short period of time. His charge and his grand slam can easily oneshot, as can being caught in a combo. In contrast, the constant sword swiping is tricky to deal with solo, but if there's another person, the way he constantly switches targets as well as tracking a single target very intensely means that the other person can just wail on him without retaliation. He also only has one move that can one-shot (that charge-up downward slam) but that one is easily avoidable provided you aren't too far from him.

less a waste of time than having no warp option. or big stupid hikes such as in anor londo
I think Dark Souls II is to Dark Souls what Dragon Age II is to Dragon Age: Origins (minus the "let's shrink the development cycle to capitalize on the original's fame and fuck fans over" part)

I liked going back to a central hub with DeS and DS2
it gives you time to scratch your balls, take a small break from the action.
I mean, you don't want a repetitive strain injury or eye strain do you?

uh if you mean fuckin' terrible then yeah
At least Dark Souls II has some really fun moments, and is overall a slightly above average game.

come on it's not nearly that extreme. DAII was a fuckin beat em up sequel to a 90's style RPG

Going back to a hub to level up or upgrade a weapon then teleporting back to where you were literally takes one minute. What are you doing that's making it a supposed major waste of time?

You have to level up a lot more often than you do forge weapons.
Is there a way to acess the second bonfire between the Prowling Magus and the huge spider boss?
The door remains locked and I could really use the closer respawn point
You have to level up a lot more often than you do forge weapons.
It's still just one minute. Being able to level up at a bonfire would save you only 15-30 seconds. The hatred for hub levels is hilariously overblown.

It isn't so bad any more, but when DkSII first came out, the loading screens were horrendously long. I could get up and get a drink and walk around a little bit before Majula actually loaded. Heaven's forbid if I had to bone back to the bonfire before warping to Majula. Bloodborne's were also pretty long at release, but they are way quicker now if I remember correctly.

Yeah, you can get there via those ziplines.
Yeah, you can get there via those ziplines.
It actually depends on the version. In vanilla, like you said, the ziplines bring you easily there. But in Scholar, there's only the first zipline. So you actually have to drop down onto the ledge from where the first zipline is.
Glad to see they kept my two least favorite things related to characters from Dark Souls 2, split endurance and having to level at an NPC.
At the very least they are keeping Soul Vessels.

imo it's not a major waste of time but it's still annoying how you have to skip the dialogue and wait for the animations to play as opposed to sitting at the nearest bonfire and levelling up instantly.

I do that anyways, I just sit at the bonfire and walk around my house pretty much after every boss. I can't really walk around my house as I teleport to and from 2 places while running around searching for the Blacksmith, the level up lady + skipping her 5 lines of dialogue and that one guy that sells arrows or some other useful thing.

Ye! I was overblowing it but it's still a decent amount of time spent if you play a lot or with friends, which I do. Those minutes add up and it just becomes a chore to just run the fuck around constantly with a shopping list of all the things you gotta do before you can actually get back to bussiness.
sometimes id used to just dick around in majula really
The knights in Heidi's tower of flame made me quit DS2, seriously its so fucking awful design they move far too fast and not to mention hit you even though you dodge them, plus theres the cunt with the spear that turns to hit you no matter where you roll mid attack.
