Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VIII. At The End
I just enabled 60fps on DS1 for the first time today after basically not playing it for two years and thinking my fancy new rig could handle it.
Damn, I should have at least tried it sooner. I can't believe I managed to tolerate 30fps for 300 hours.
Same, except it doesn't for some stupid reason. The game struggles to stay at 60 (hell even 50) and I have an R390 + FX8350. Though it would be fine.. didn't change anything else in dsfix, not using any mods either. Any suggestions?
Just a reminder though, 60 fps does affect your roll distance.
... Are you telling me the poison inside Queen Mytha's chamber could be dried out somehow?
Oh well.

Set the windmill outside the second bonfire, well, on fire. It'll drain the poison pools out of the entire area. Somehow.

It also makes jumps and plunging attacks a bit more harder. Also you can get stuck on the bonfire after restoring humanity if you move fast in the menus.
If there's one thing DS3 should retain from DS2, it's optimization. 60fps is nice but my rig isn't so good and I swear that game could run on old world soviet tech, the SotFS version was only better as far as consistent framerates go.
I'm gonna fucking wanna kill myself if I get that DS1 framerate back. Jumping back and forth from DS2 to DS1 is always really shitty for me.

Oh, is that what that did? I just used my torch because I saw a "try fire" message at that windmill :v:
I still have no idea what I'm looking at when I see the Scholar
What fucking chode designed SOTFS Iron Keep. No one played this area, no one
Boy howdy just wait for the Shrine of Adolf
I still have no idea what I'm looking at when I see the Scholar
He's... a tree? That's what I see at any rate.
Boy howdy just wait for the Shrine of Adolf
Shrine of Amana was easier in SotFS, are you joking?
Shrine of Amana was easier in SotFS, are you joking?
There were a lot more casters than what I remember.
Mind you it's been a while since I played the original DS2 so I might just have a negative overlook on the Shrine as a whole
All I know is I didn't have that good of a time when I played through it the other day in SotFS
Behead those who enjoy Shrine of Amana.
The Crypt and Dragon's Shrine/Aerie are the best.

Incoming message from the big giant head.
I still have no idea what I'm looking at when I see the Scholar
This reminds me of that time I made a really really really shitty picture to try and explain what the Scholar was to a friend.

He's essentially a tree dude poking out of the ground at a small slant, inclined towards the direction of his right shoulder. This is actually kind of corrected in SotFS since you more clearly see all of his body during the bossfight but you're still essentially looking at a guy poking out of the ground.
There were a lot more casters than what I remember.
As long as you don't get the casters into a rhythm, it's somewhat easy to just roll and slap their shit. It's the little fuckers hiding under the water that would get me the most.
It only took me two runs to reach the first fog gate, and a few more to get past the gangbang circle.
Not a fun area, but a pretty one at least. Perhaps it is one thing SotFS improved in a way? I've heard horror stories.
The Iron Keep was the first area ever in Dark Souls II where I took fully advantage of the new respawn limit
The Smelter Demon, even if yet another huge guy with huge sword with the same attack pattern from the bosses of the same kind before him, was a nice fight, and the music was good too
The Old Iron King, for basically being Fantasia's Chernabog on fire, was a fucking pushover
I have three great souls. Where to now?
Wow shit I just assumed the big head was the one of the serpents from the first game after running through the bed of chaos or something

Have you fought The Rotten, The Lost Sinner, and The Old Iron King so far?

It appears I must reach the Rotten now

Enjoy New BlightTown (Which isn't really that bad)

It's honestly one of my favorite areas in the game.
The Gutter is one of the few new-lighting areas where torches make the area a really cool exploration spot, and it's probably one of the few massive improvements for SotfS, some areas kinda have really, really bad lighting even when fixed

Despite having my gripes with DS2, this video did make me think back on my first run, which was actually excellent.

its the only area where i actually used a torch
one of the better designed areas in the entire game IMO, its practically mazelike with a bunch of weird shit
Is it just me or parrying in Dark Souls 2 is fucking impossible? I hit L2 but I always seem to miss.
Got the platinum trophy for Bloodborne. I do believe that's my first one i've earned.
Now to debate to myself if i want to get back to the grind for earning the platinum trophy for Scholar...

It's obnoxious as all hell but not impossible. From what i understand, the parry frames only happen after the animation plays, so parry pretty much right before they swing and not during the swing like in DS1, but i'm no professional.

If you hate life then go for it. I was going to 1000GS it on Xbone but gave up since it felt a bit tedious.

parrying isn't as instant in dark souls 2. there are wind up frames before the parry frames when you press L2. this also differs from the type of weapon/shield you use as well.
i had the most success with parrying in dark souls 2 when i bait my enemies into attacking. it's great fun when you pull it off. i don't think it's necessarily worse, just something different you have to get used to.
i'm assuming you're talking about pvp though. pve parrying in dark souls 2 is pretty much worthless.
