A new player to the series wouldn't know any different than focusing on multiples if their first game is dark 2. They also wouldn't know about having more than one estus or having a shield with 100% block. The game starting them with less means they're less overwhelmed with things to start with. I know people that have started with both dark 1 and others that have started with Dark 2. Dark 1 does a super poor job at explaining super basic stuff and won't hesitate to throw you in to an invincible skeleton graveyard without warning. Dark 1's super slow and sluggish movement and animations throw a lot of people off too
DS2's movements are just as sluggish, perhaps more so, though they did get rid of quite a bit of clunkiness. "less overwhelmed" is laughable. What does DS2 start with? An obvious path to an area filled with tough enemies if you go there straight away, a harder-to-notice path that leads to the place you're supposed to go, a descent to an area that will probably just kill you, and an entrance to a place you can't get to until later. What does DS1 start with? An obvious path filled with tough enemies if you go there straight away, a harder-to-notice path that leads to the place you're supposed to go, a descendant to an area that will probably just kill you, and an entrance to a place you can't get to until later (unless you brought the master key). DS1 did a better job of explaining what you're supposed to be doing than DS2 does. DS1 had Oscar outright tell you "take this key and estus and go do the pilgrimage thing" and then had crestfallen (who is RIGHT NEXT to you when you first get to Lordran) tell you "go and ring the bell at the undead church". What did DS2 do? Old crones telling you "you'll die a lot lol" and then emerald herald (who might not even get noticed because she stands off to the side the first time you see her) just tells you "kill 4 big dudes and seek the king lol".
DS2 feels so much slower compared to DS1, and that's my biggest gripe about it. Actions take up so much stamina and doesn't regenerate as fast, not to mention you can't attack from any angle out of a roll like you could in DS1. Makes everything feel so clunky and unwieldy.
No it isn't. DS2 started you with some really awful starting equipment, such as the cleric not having enough strength to 2-hand his mace, the knight not starting with a shield, and the warrior starting with a literal broken sword. Things Betwixt was arguably a better tutorial level than Undead Asylum, but starting with a single estus charge while also not starting with a shield that has 100% physical resistance makes DS2's early game a very irritating experience until you're far enough to get the gear you want.
I agree with everything except DS2's tutorial being better. It's a fucking awful tutorial and being able to ignore it doesn't make it better. Dark Souls 1 lead you through an area and explained concepts to you as you played (it's not From's fault people are too fucking stupid to read the messages that are ever 4 feet). Dark Souls 2 hand holds you through a handful of different orchestrated scenarios, but it does them in a completely fucked up order. In DS2's tutorial they tell you how to rotate the camera after you've navigated all the way to the first tutorial area, killed 7 enemies, and passed through 2 fog doors. DS1 tells you how to do it right after you leave your cell.

For someone who has been playing games for some time, even if they aren't Souls, the DS1 tutorial will be better because it is more intuitive and more involved with the plot. For the average folk who are more casual with games, then DS2's is better because of how it hand-holds more, but also can be skipped if you don't feel like doing it. To clarify, I don't like DS2's tutorial either, though I do like Things Betwixt as a level outside of it, reminds me of Ash Lake somewhat. The stone ring and the crows also reward exploration even if you aren't new, and the coffin is pretty funny.
if you think ds2 is a bad souls game then fine, but if you think ds2 is a bad game you're insane

I hope Dark Souls 3 has a cat
shalquoir is nice too but she isn't as delightfully plump as alvina is
I like how she moves around the house. It's like hide and go seek
I miss the dark souls 1 fuzz effect
In my experience, damn near every friend of mine I've tried to introduce to the series with DaS1 dropped it, while those who started with two ended up picking up the whole series. I'm not sure why, and I won't guess why; but experience seems to indicate that 2 has the more palatable early game, and is better at teaching the basics than 1. Which frustrates me a bit, because 2's story is basically a big callback to 1, and it's wasted on them. At least they got into the series at all though.
Those DLC's better be huge for it to cost over half of the game's base price

I am sad that to use the majestic greatsword you would basically have to build your whole character around it to still be within a good sm range, even then it would be dumb low stats. It's hard enough building a quality stats character without sacrificing health or equipment load, let alone juggle four main properties alongside attunement

I powerstanced Giant Warrior Clubs. [editline]15th February 2016[/editline] Like, it was useless because you had to put so many points into STR, END, and VIT just to get more than one swing in, you have zero defensive capabilities other than rolling, and it did less damage than a lighter weapon that could hit faster, but dammit if it wasn't more fun than anything else.
The lenghts some of you will go to defend a badly designed game like Dark Souls II on the sole account thatr "it's part of a series I like, so I must defend it at all costs no matter what" is honestly really jarring
Guys my friend is having a bug were his game freezes EVERY time he tries to summon someone in DS2SotFS. So far nothing I tried is working and now we're reinstalling the game, has anyone had&solved this problem?
So I'm playing through SOTFS for the first time and holy shit they fucked it up. The enemy placement is horrible. They just went "yeah what if we add like 5 more dudes" Why do people think this is the best version. The only reason I'm forcing myself to go through this is because I want to pvp again
Get your refund while you can lol.
Yes but I want to do pvp [editline]16th February 2016[/editline] Also it's a tad hard to get a refund since I've owned it for months and I have started playthroughs many times, but I never could force myself to actually complete them
Alonne is a decent fight but
Being completely honest, Sir Alonne is the only boss in DS2 I enjoyed fighting. He was fast, strong, different enough from the other thousand "giant humanoid" enemies in mechanics and has the personal achievement goal (the flawless victory seppuku). I always save him for last when possible because I consider him the worthy final boss of the game.
I really need to get around to finishing this some time.
This is the reason the very first thing I do when I'm summoned into another game is to target-check everyone for this exact scenario. Can't count the amount of times I've sabotaged people trying this just by clicking my thumbstick in. I guess I'm just too distrusting.
I believe this will be the last picture I'll ever take in Dark Souls II - Scolar of the first Sin I've been slowly realizing that, at his point, I'm not playing the game for the excitement to reach the next boss or to "figure out" the enemies and the levels, but I'm simply running past everything I'm coming across and hoping that the next boss I face will be the last one for each DLC and I'll be "able" to uninstall the game and move on This is not my idea of having fun with a videogame and, beside, it's about time I face that big ass unfinished business of mine which is Demon's Soul

Oh well, your choice. Enjoy Demon's Souls, it's pretty fun.
Just listened over the Bloodborne soundtrack, and I'm quite frankly baffled as to why they gave such a bombastic and well, incredible track to one of the worst bosses in the game. I feel that [sp]The Living Failures[/sp] are the Pinwheel of Bloodborne. An overall easy, and quite disappointing boss with an incredible theme.
I dunno. [sp]The Living Failures[/sp] took me some time to figure out. Pinwheel you can just whack a few times.
That's practically what I did on them though. I just ran about flailing at them until they [sp]started channeling the cosmos[/sp] which I immediately avoided using the skills I honed fighting [sp]Rom.[/sp] To continue running about flailing at them.
Why are you people bitching so much about DS2? Even my AWFUL fucking friend managed to beat it at 6-7 deaths coming out of DS1's Gravelord Nito. It's hard? Okay. So, pardon my memes, but get fucking gooder. Unfair? Get unfairer. The game lets you be a broken dickhead even more so than in DS1, so if you can't handle the heat cool down the kitchen & come back. I just don't understand. It's like the people whining about XCOM 2 being too difficult and taking off points. Is it unfairly difficult? Yes. But it's still a good game and that won't change because you're too damn bitter to not throw a tantrum over Alonne Knights or Poopy Dinosaurs.
Oh jesus Dark Souls III Deluxe-edition is 85€. That's ~95 dollars. And that's terrible. I hope I'm just not seeing some discount that should be there because I'm not logged in and looking at it using IE 11. I think I'll buy the base game then buy the season pass later.
