I hope DS3's music is as good as or better than BB.
So far so good
all I want is guts' dragonslayer
I dunno, I feel like BB's soundtrack was a little bit too noisy. For most songs there was way too many things going on at the same time and it felt like the track got kinda jammed up instead of flowing properly. Simpler things like Father Gascoigne's theme, Cleric Beast, Amigdala or Lady Maria's worked very well for me but everything else felt ?¿?¿
If we're gonna do any callbacks it'd be really nice if we got the Sanctuary Guardian theme back or the DS2 Ancient Dragon one, for both of these the parts right before it loops are fucking insane.
Also crucify me but I want ambient music. Some basic strings or percussion, anything, but the dead silence of the games doesn't really work for me.
i'd like to see some ambient music too. not all areas, but just a few where it works well.
the ambient music in the hypogean gaol was so good. really added to the atmosphere.
What I liked about the hypogean gaol chanting is that it actually had a story purpose. That was the actually the blood moon ritual taking place, and it got louder the closer you got to the door.

Upper cathedral ward had a really nice ambient music too

Yeah, I understand the silence is part of the atmosphere but it's kinda overplayed. Practically everything being silent is just strange, it doesn't convey the fact that there's a dead world so much as it conveys the fact that they just didn't really feel like adding music.
Doesn't even make the ambient music hit hard when it does come because at that point I'm reminded of the fact that all I've heard for the past hours has been my character rolling around and the hit sounds.
Check out that Character Creation music from DS3 someone pulled up;

Would work really well somewhere.

the music from souls games has always been good but this is beautiful i can't wait to have DSIII songs too
I think the ambience is great as is, the sound design is pretty great, you can pretty much always hear something that's making noise, there's all these little details, and you can hear enemies move around and all kinds of neat stuff.
Saving music tracks for important stuff like boss fights or special areas just gives them more impact I feel.
But people have different opinions about this, some people might like the way it is and some will consider it a flaw, so it's just a matter of personal taste.

IMO it's a flaw because it's not really handled properly. Most areas don't really have impactful ambiance; if you tried to put ambient music in a unique area like Oolacile Township I'd say no because that place's natural ambient SFX are great, detailed & very thematically appropiate, if you tried to put ambient music in any of the extremely dead quiet zones that only have the sound of a waterfall or trees rustling I'd be totally okay with it.
The game's all about the little details and ambient music where the ambient SFX fails would go a long way to setting a mood for you to receive the details in.
these games have a history of saving ambient music for hidden areas
the lack of music in a lot of areas is important to setting the sense of scale too, like in anor londo when you're on the rafters and there's so much emphasis on the echoes of your weapon swings and clinking armor

It's one of the reasons the world felt so 'real' in DS1 for me. The fact there's no music forces you to hear things you otherwise wouldn't, and sets a tone for the game. All those moments when you hear a sound you don't recognise and start to panic, or even a sound you do recognise (e.g. basilisks croaking), because you know it might be a threat and that matters from a gameplay context.
Hah, I was listening to the Dark Souls character creation music and never realised how similar it sounds to the Resident Evil safe room music
Both pretty relaxing but with a hint of distant terror and unease. The Dark Souls 3 music sounds much more tragic

It'd have to be all or nothing, either have ambient music at all times or not at all, otherwise the times when there's no music would be jarring and the player would feel something's off
Anyway, I feel like the ambient noise is perfect for every area, just check this playlist
It's stuff like this you'd never notice ingame unless you were actively listening for it. It just works
In both Dark Souls games the Greatsword has been classified as an Ultra Greatsword.
Right right, I was thinking of weapon class greatsword, not the actual weapon itself (named Greatsword).

Eh, I guess it is just a personal thing. None of those soundscape themes really hit me except for the Oolacile one. I'll be ok, I've got a playthrough of dark ambiance from Diablo and some other titles so when the game is dead fucking silent I won't be.
Either way I don't think you should take the lack of emphasis as emphasis, that's kinda questionable.
I thought I'd repost this because I still dunno how to fix this issue.
Sorry for being late with solving the problem, not sure if you fixed it, but i found the reason if you didn't.
beta branch Steam+dswatchdog causes it for some reason, you need to switch to the non-beta branch of steam.
Seath the Scaleless has basically become my most despised character in the history of videogames
He decided to betray his own kind just because he was born different and helped the other bearers of the Lord's Soul to slaughter them all
After reciving his fragment of the Soul and the title of Duke, he devoted himself to sick experiments involving magic and the living, having a legion of lackeys scouting Lordran for men, women and children to turn into walking monstrosities in his effort to find the "cure" for his condition
All of the above just because he was born without scales and was therefore filled with petty envy towards the other dragons

The so called "abomination" that is actually a giant girl with a fluffy tail.

Him doing his "serious lore voice" makes this video even funnier.
