Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VIII. At The End

I really, REALLY hope Dark Souls III runs at 60 FPS on PC. I realize this is a "muh grafix" thing, but Bloodborne does suffer a little from being 30 FPS.

Higher framerate is less of a graphics fidelity thing and more of a better player control and feedback thing.
I seriously can't stop watching the Dark Souls 3 gameplay footage to the point of addiction now, It looks such a massive improvement over an already amazing game, the dodge attack combo's and the increase combat speed it looks like a natural blend of what they've learned across all the games and i fucking love it!

Older video but enough said really.
This... is 60FPS gameplay. Is 60FPS for the PC confirmed?

It isn't a 'muh grafix' thing, in my opinion. There is absolutely no excuse for any PC game released in 2016, especially an action game, to run in 30FPS.

it's not 60 fps though??

It kind of looks a hell of a lot smoother than the official trailers.
That video is 30fps. Gamespot just uploaded it in 60fps for some reason.
The original Bartholomew trailer for Dark Souls can be viewed at 720p and 60FPS. That option doesn't always mean "this is in 60FPS."
wait have they shown whips in DSIII yet are they shit please let them not be shit i haven't gotten a chance to run a Belmont character without my whip being an amazing 10 second hard on before it snapped in half by accidentally touching your zipper

They should make whips just like Lords of Shadow. Whipping skeletons has never been better than that.
i think whips are best used in the offhand for when you need something faster than your giant sword
I usually just use whips as a distance tool or for baiting with the occasional hit because of how shitty the durability is. Even on my Indiana Jones build, had to rely on my fuckin' crossbow for most of my damage.
Today I've set myself on exploring as many calice dungeons as possible
The only long-term reward I got from them is a big headache and nothing else (also, riding them at level 137 may make them extra dull)
I've been going through the story chalices on a BL43 bloodtinge character.
Christ, Ebrietas made me seriously miserable. Headless BLB is currently making me miserable. I don't get why this prick has to have so much health, and I really don't understand how such a large creature just jumps around like it's nothing.
There's no 'tightness' to the healing system like there was in DS1. In a way it's kind of like demon's but to not such an extreme - you essentially have a massive stockpile of healing and can cheese your way past most things. There's no 'increasing tension' - just risky moments where you're low on health and will simply heal back up once you get a spare moment. DS1 actually challenged you to get better after each death, and the amount of estus you had to use directly correlated with your skill at the game
Bloodborne I didn't feel it as much at least when exploring the world, but against bosses the healing items did run low a few times. You want it to be a really nice balance - get punished for making mistakes and lose health, but not just cheese your way through or get nuked by ridiculous attacks to override that healing power
Interestingly in the new knife weapon art gameplay the player only has 3 estus and 1 ash flask. I hope it is like DS2 where you slowly increase your estus amount and the difficulty/volatility of the gameplay increases alongside, but minus the lifegems

3000 posts, end my life
Lifegems should be in DS3, they should just be super rare like divine blessings.
Maybe just make them a very slow regen that lasts a certain amount of time, less of a healing item and more of a buff.
Lifegems should be in DS3, they should just be super rare like divine blessings.
I'd hesitate to do that, best to keep the healing system simple so you can build the entire game around it and fine tune the gameplay
Healing items with different properties is an alright idea to add healing options, e.g. an item that you activate and then must damage an enemy to heal, but you risk diluting the gameplay again
Not much point finding crappy lifegems rarely if you have your estus. Divine blessings should have been unusable during invasions anyway
I'd prefer If you could only carry one type of lifegem that had different effects, like the special blood vials in Bloodborne, and it regenerated every time you refresh at a bonfire.

how would that be any different from estus in that case, apart from the additional effects

It should just be a flat 20% heal. It could basically be a utility item to quickly get some health back while also doing something unique, like faster rolling animation for X seconds or something.
[editline]27th February 2016[/editline]
I just think that'd be more interesting than having a healing item that heals quickly, then another healing item that heals slowly.
Life gems and Blood vials were annoying as hell and made you farm once you ran out. Much preferred gaining more Estus flasks as you progress.
You didn't have to farm life gems, you could just buy them from Melentia.
I'd be ok with having more healing items, Miracles exist for a reason. They require more investment than just buying things but that's easily fixed.
You didn't have to farm life gems, you could just buy them from Melentia.
which costs souls which involve farming and raising your soul memory.
I haven't had much time to play Bloodborne since first semester (about 4 months ago), but I had 12 hours to kill yesterday so I figured ehh why the fuck not.
Booted it up, played for 20 minutes, then the game crashed and my sava data corrupted.
I'm confused about where I go after the Bloodletting Beast. I've [sp]found The Old Workshop, and made a sicknasty jump down into the area that inspired the Hunter's Dream.[/sp] However, that just leads me back into The Hunter's Dream. There's some dudes with sacks who ferry me off to gay baby jail on death, but that also just leads me back to the dream.
Any direction someone could give me?

I find Blood Vials a lot less annoying than Life Gems, honestly. They don't feel like a gimmicky afterthought, and almost every enemy for the first 5 hours drops them. As well as being sold for next to nothing by the messengers. Versus farming in Dark Souls II which kinda locks you out of online play.

Which bosses have you defeated?

You can keep going down the place where you were earlier, warp back to that lamp, and then if you go outside, you'll be able to keep going down.
Also, you didn't beat bloodletting beast, you beat bloodstarved beast. Bloodletting beast is someone else.
So this happened

So there I was, playing some Dark Souls, new playthrough, Castlevania style.
First Balder Knight I kill drops the Side Sword.
First Steel Knight I kill drops a Greatsword.
A bit later,

Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

And divine blessing were also a mistake to begin with.
