Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VIII. At The End

Would you imagine that a 60 dollars AAA PC title in 2016 with season pass right off the bat available to preorder (lmao) had at the very least 60 fps (or, more exact: had at the very least its features confirmed), and that the customers would settle for nothing less
Like, I'm a fan of souls series, and I'm still a fan of the unique gameplay even after the borderline scam sotfs was. But degrading the game's tech progress? Not confirming whether the game would have its FPS unlocked or not? Other players accepting something that's an obvious show of incompetence, or lack of care? what happened
It would be an absolute travesty to me. I saw this on reddit, apparently Miyazaki said this of DS3;
"For once, this Dark Souls game is made exactly the way I want it to be start to finish"
If this is true, then experiencing the game in a sub-par way would be unforgivable to me. All the other games had their troubles;
Demon's - budget
Dark Souls - budget and deadlines
Dark Souls 2 - Miyazaki only involved in the start and in post-development of SotfS. Game had to be realigned to a completely different tangent midway through development and got a new director (iirc?)
Bloodborne - Sony heavily involved (not totally Miyazaki's vision)

Yea I renember in Bloodborne he wanted to have lighter things to contrast the game's natural darkness but he wasn't allowed.
Bloodborne IMO suffers from this, the aesthetic is nice but it's really hurt by the fact that every single little thing is grimdark, there's zero contract and things have less impact even if there is a constant escalation.
Ultimately whether the game is 60 fps or not, Bamboo Vancouver knows that the game is gonna sell, and this thread shows it. It'll affect them, sure, but clearly it's not nearly enough for them to commit to 60fps.
I have this annoying feeling that DS3 will lack a lot of the QOL DS2 had, soul vessels, bonfire ascetics, 60 fps, god rings to easily spot specific summon signs, upgrading of weapons not being a pain in the dick, etc.
I really hope we won't regress to having to do entire playthroughs just to kill a boss you like, I found it especially stupid how the game FORCED you to summon an NPC for a boss just to progress their story, at least in DS2 I was able to summon an npc to progress their story, then ascetic the area to still experience the boss on my own with a specific build.
And I really hope we won't have another kaathe situation when it comes to some items, it's fun to go through the game in a specific manner just to get a red orb the first time or two, but then it's just tedious.
Oh and I'm hoping we'll be able to buy or earn all the upgrade stones without ridiculous requirements this time around, I liked being able to earn my souls and buy them from Rosabeth, or kill the 3 gonker bosses in the DLC to get slabs & twinkies.

On the subject of God rings, be easy. There's been no confirmation yet, of course, but Bloodborne let players set a matchmaking password for cooperative play. I'm sure they won't leave that out of DS3.
Does das1 sl1 PvP still exist? Because if yes I would like to know where I could find it
Well DS3 does have some sort of re-spec, confirmed in an early interview with Miyazaki. It also uses the same system that bloodborne has for co-op/pvp, and if you've seen any early gameplay previews [sp]it looks like ds2's system, where you can infuse a weapon and still use the basic titanite[/sp] also [sp]DeS quality, crushing(called heavy now), and sharp are back in the infusion system[/sp] Bonfire ascetics are out unfortunately.
60fps is still up in the air, FROM still hasnt said a word about it, not even bamco is sure. I have a feeling it might be 60 on pc, but have some problems like 2 did.

I actually thought this going into the game, that the "only night time" aesthetic would make the game dingy and hard to play. This isn't actually the case, as there are areas that break up the monotony of an overcast night. Especially right after you kill the first two bosses, and get to your non-Dream hub in the game. The sky is brightly lit with shades of orange and red, it's quite wonderful. It makes the evening right after it even more striking. [sp]And then the Paleblood sky changes it all, constantly looking like an anime.[/sp] It's totally fine imo.
As for the 60FPS v. 30FPS debate; there's no excuse for a PC game that costs $60 in 2016 developed by a Triple A studio to not run AT LEAST at 60FPS. Genuinely, it should be able to go to 144(because of those fancy 144hz monitors). However, the game will still be totally serviceable at 30FPS. Does it hurt the game? Indisputably yes. [sp]And no game with a shoddy PC port should be GOTY, sorry. Esp. not when they crack down on modding these games so fucking hard.[/sp]Also ESPECIALLY since this is their 3rd game released on PC since Dark Souls, and the first two ran at 60FPS. I'm sure Dark Souls III will be a stellar game, and honestly I'm sure the PC port will be fine, but arguing in defense of bad business practices is stupid.
Frame-dependent coding is awful, any amateur game developer can tell you that.

Wasn't SL1 PvP basically a huge shitshow due to twinking?

[sp]God I hope elemental weapons aren't shit like they are in DS2. I already hate the infusion system, but making them do shit damage with shit scaling is just incompetence.[/sp]

I thought that was the point
Who can twink hardest?

Passwords were in the network test, I doubt they'll take them out of the final game.

I dunno. PVP with powerful items either hacked in or transferred between characters feels too cheap to be enjoyable.

I kind of hope elemental infusion in Dks3 comes with a permanent particle effect/shader. Now that [sp]frost damage[/SP] is a thing, I want to dual-wield cool ranch claymores, dammit.

The problem is that thematically it doesn't ever stop being dark. Sure sky might be pretty & dream may be nice, but everything is just so ridiculously turned up with the dead babies, the non-stop waves of blood, the coarseness of practically every facet of the game to the point where it just didn't even hit me anymore and I was waiting for that relief that never came.
Dark Souls is a dark game, but the moments of light that it has only serve to make that darkness stand out even further.
that aside I'm really hoping the OST DS3 ships with includes phase 2 themes. My friend fought the bosses with no sound on except for the music and dodged around for like 10m at each phase 2 just to listen to the music, it's that good.
Man, Artorias is pushing my fecal matter in.

There's actually quite a few brief periods of respite that make the thrust back inot the non-stop waves of blood a little jarring. But I feel like acclimating to the abrasive nature of the blood-soaked world of Bloodborne is part of the experience. You, and by extension your character, have less and less of an issue with it. And then, when it's [sp]all shown to be kinda pointless, it's a "yeah well, duh" feeling. The cosmic horror feels like a nihilistic inevitability because everything has been so fucked for the past 15 hours.[/sp]
It's good
It's really good
GOTYAY

I used to think he was tough when Dark Souls was the first and only game in the series I played. Dark Souls 2 changed that with the Fume Knight. Coming back to Dks1 I find myself beating Artorias first time every time now. Of course, I always manage to stagger him before he can buff; maybe that's a part of it.

My biggest issue is that I've become reliant on my Havel set, and I can't really keep up with him. My Dragon's Tooth is the strongest weapon I've got which, when it hits, does tons of damage. Though he's so fast that becomes a chore in itself.

Embrace the Elite Knight set and the Oscar of Astora cosplay, young Undead.
Most of the other players I know recommend stripping off all your armor if you're wearing a heavy set before fighting him. You *need* a medium/fast roll.
I heard Miyazaki is going back to a demon's souls type of leveling again, no more leveling at bonfires.

Dark Souls I is now the only game in the series that lets you do that.

I've been cosplaying Oscar very well.
Mostly the part after he gets hit by the steel ball.

Actually, I have info on that. [SP] The firekeeper who levels you up shares some quotes almost word for word with the Maiden in Black. [/SP]

Oh that's interesting. I'm trying my best to not watch any videos, it's becoming really difficult :v
Hex builds have been incredibly powerful since the get go. The dark chaos blade (and dark anything really) that plagued high SM PvP is what spurred forth the SM meta. If you aren't playing above 3mil SM then you won't encounter dedicated hexbuilds without counter, due to stat limitations.
Really though, the skill ceiling for hex builds isn't that high, and most overly rely on the huge damage of their spells to carry them through. Once you get your head around the weaknesses of casting, you can reliably punish them so long as latency isn't too far off. You'll suffer more against a hex build than you will a melee build for latency though.
Having a Dark-infused Transgressor's Leather Shield gives you 100% hex resistance, making OP hex builds useless against you. It's always good to have one as a back-up in case you ever run into people like that.
Dark Souls I is now the only game in the series that lets you do that.
Which I absolutely fucking despise. No idea why it bothers me so much. It is disruptive, but it's not that big a deal, but it is at the same time.
Just wish we got some more independence back like DS1 instead of having to run around like an idiot like you're shopping at SoulMart.
Does das1 sl1 PvP still exist? Because if yes I would like to know where I could find it
Every few days I PVP at Sens Funhouse with my twink Golem cosplay build and I almost always get constant successful invasions. He's SL24 so sometimes I try it down in the burg and it also works on low SL players. I think there's been an influx due to DS3 coming out soon.

I think that's one of the only things DeS [del]and DS2[/del] did better than DS1. It made leveling like a ritual. Being sat at a bonfire and upgrading your weapons or organising/storing things away is fine but it's plausible that strengthening your very soul would require special means (I hope we can get a weapon smith box in DS3 but I haven't seen any mention of it)

It was fine in Demon's Souls because you had to go back to the Nexus all the time anyway, and the Maiden in Black said her lines as you levelled up. In Dark Souls 2 it was fucking awful, there's no reason to have to return to Majula all the time other than to level up, the Emerald Herald says her thing before you get any options and she does it every fucking time.
Also levelling in DS1 doesn't require 2 fucking load screens so it is immediately better in every way.
