Dark Souls + Demon's Souls + Bloodborne Megathread VIII. At The End

I'm a selfish cunt in this regard that I've never minded twinks because to me it's not a big deal to just go hollow and not get invaded, cheaters who just put infinite health on and instacurse you are the really annoying shit.
If someone fights me with a chaoshander when I'm still using a longsword and the warrior set then okay let's go motherfucker, I'll outplay you. Give me the unfair challenge, I'm already playing fresh start on NG+7.
Can't get much harder than that.
Made it to the Iron Keep.
Fuck the Iron Keep.

If you kill the enemies in the area twelve times or so, they won't respawn
That's what I did at the very least, I was playing on Scholar of the First Sin
the knight yard is trivial if you have a crossbow
I hope situational attacks return to DS3.
that one miracle that only damaged hollows and hollowed players was hilarious
catching a hollow dude in the belfry luna trying to heal up by dropping into that little pit but i cut him off before he could try to escape out the exit and waited a good 30 seconds for him to come around the corner. I decided "fuck it" and used the miracle and killed him in 1 hit. I didn't even know that spell could hit behind walls.
One of the things I hated about Dark Souls 2 was that you were practically forced to cheese some areas with a bow and arrows. Pure melee classes were difficult to play with. The Iron Keep's a fantastic example. Sure, you *could* ignore the archers, but then have fun getting knocked off the bridge by a bullshit greatarrow when you're trying to manage the lightning fast knights. Not that it was impossible - Just unreasonably difficult.

All of Dark Souls 2 just felt like Blighttown in Dark Souls 1 for some reason.
Dark Souls 2 was like if the Lord Soul areas just never stopped.
Ah twinks, I remember rushing the grass crest shield with a master key then getting a nice black knight halberd drop. Those twinks stood no chance in the undead burg with my big black halberd swinging around and 1-2 shotting poor invaders.
seriously why are they called twinks
seriously why are they called twinks
well I guess since Twinks are slim younger gay men, they're relating age to level and also going with that classic "you're a faggot" approach to "unfair" players
i was afraid that would be why
we should stop using it? you wouldnt go around calling people faggots it is not cool

at the end of the day, theyre just cunts

It's a pretty common piece of terminology for something that's existed since like everquest.
If you can't deal with it's alternate meaning that sucks, but treating it like some kind of taboo is just giving the word more power.
Hell I didn't even know it had anything to do with gays until you brought it up, and I reckon maybe 10% of the people who use it to talk about video games know about it's other meaning. Grow a thicker skin imo.

I mean that's my first guess for it's origin idk this is what it says on wikipedia tho
There are several possible etymologies for the word. It may not have been derived from a single source, instead evolving from multiple convergent usages. Its exact origin is unclear.
The gay-slang usage of "twink" has been suggested as a likely origin. One of the connotations of this usage is "a young/inexperienced person who can outfit himself fashionably because of financial benefits from an older/experienced sugar daddy." This parallels MMORPGs, where in-game money is a strong limiting factor in the virtual economy and gear is usually in the form of clothing and jewelry.
in this case other players are the "sugar daddy" getting items for the "younger" player, I'm assuming because most assume that the average player is a male and not a female, it made more sense to call them a twink for having a "sugar daddy" over terms usually used against women with sugar daddies.
So I guess it's not meant to be homophobic as it's more meant to represent that they're relying on more experienced/higher level players for their success... buuuut nowadays twinks can just get these items at low levels by themselves so I guess now it's a more homophobic term for some and just an old gaming phrase for others
idk I'm Pan and I call my straight friends faggot lmao but that's me being a dick cos I can get away with saying it so that's scummy on my part

Getting super offended over a word just gives it more power.
Someone calls me a white cunt or something to that effect I just shrug it off. If you're mature enough not to label other people you should have the mental fortitude to shrug it off when people do it to you.
Getting upset over abuse is fine but you should be upset with the person treating you like shit, not the word they use.

dude, I really don't care about if people call Twinks "Twinks" I was just curious about it's origins since rusty brought it up lmao no one here is getting super offended buddy

I meant that more as a discussion point than directing it at you.
twinks are fine lol, they add a risk to going human early on.
That's a bs excuse but whatever.
I don't really care about twinks since you just happen to find them early but it's still dumb and can be discouraging and annoying for other players.
If i go human, i know i'll run risk to get invaded but i don't need to think "MHMHMH I SHOULD THINK THIS TWICE BECAUSE TWINKS", that's fucked up.

I probably played 50+ hours on my first Dark Souls character in hollowed form because I went online and proceeded to get stomped by players I had no chance against and thought "screw this".
I definitely played 20+ hours on my first DS character against people I had a chance against and still got stomped anyways.

And thats why we probably saw the Darkmoons get the shaft in favor of the Blue Sents since they not only hunt down sinners/invaders they also act to intercept invaders in players worlds. Sadly most people don't want to sit in a covenant just to maybe get help from a Blue and being a Blue it kinda sucks having to waste a ring slot and wait around forever. Hopefully with DS3 we'll see a lot more activity in Blue on Red action with how they've switched up how being a part of a covenant works.

DS3 Covenant spoilers:[sp]Blue Sentinels and Way of Blue return, but rather than equipping a ring to get help it's an effect of the covenant. Covenants have a new slot dedicated to them, you equip the covenant item to "join" and get it's effect.[/sp]

Invaders in and of itself aren't a risk? Bro I get you're an ELITE GAMER but c'mon lmao, ok?
Invaders are a risk that From put in the game for a reason and I 100% respect that, I love the idea, the way it works, etc. Twinks are this mutation born of human error that breaks every little calculated boundary From put in place to make PvP a fun experience.
Just face up with it man. Maybe you didn't have a shitty experience with them initially and got to the point where you can outplay twinks, as most people do after finishing their first game, and got breezy after that but they're shit. SM was a humongous mistake but lemme say it again; there's a reason why they made this terrible terrible error.

Yeah, I've started to notice that. I went back to Heide's Tower of Flame to try and fight the dragon and the first three Old Knights never spawned. I thought it was just something that happened after you killed the Dragonrider, but then I saw less enemies spawn out in Earthen Peak. Does it not happen in the Forest of Fallen Giants? I did a shitload of grinding there and all the enemies still spawn.
It happens everywhere, but I don't know if they changed it for SOFTS or not since I have no reason to farm anything from the Forest nowadays anyways.
Trust me after sweeping through the entire level killing everything a few times it'll definitely feel as if you've done this a hundred times already.
Undead Burger, 1-1 and Forest of the Fallen Giants are all pretty boring eventually because you've played through them so many times. I kinda wish the games were more open from the start. At least DS1 and 2 had more than option on where to go, but they weren't really designed for first time exploring.
I think the problem with Twinks are their ability to grind upgraded gear and thus crush newer players from their armor and weapons alone. If there was some way to match players based on weapon and armor progression in your inventory, then that'd solve the issue easily.
That would kinda solve the problem, the noobsies would still get destroyed by more experienced players invading. But at least they wont just get oneshot by black flame.
Getting killed in a skill-based encounter would still be drastically different than a situation of:
"My hits do 15 damage against their 565 damage. This sure is a fair fight".
but what happens when they just decide to not pick up any items, if possible in the case that boss encounters don't auto drop them, and go through the game to level their stuff that way
wait no i made a mistake because im tired i understand what you meant by progression now
