but what happens when they just decide to not pick up any items, if possible in the case that boss encounters don't auto drop them, and go through the game to level their stuff that way wait no i made a mistake because im tired i understand what you meant by progression now
What I wrote last page was that the equipment-value-calculation would be based on stuff in your inventory and stuff stored in the bottomless box at bonfires would not get calculated. Then having the game remind you that it's a good call to keep your inventory clean.
I'd rather not have metagaming reminders built into dark souls
i think the blue sentinels and way of the blue were already kind of made to alleviate this in ds 2. maybe increase the rewards for sentineling and make sentinel summoning happen automatically for relatively low level players even without a ring or covenant requirement if the invader has a high invasion success ratio. or maybe make high invasion success ratio shift invasion level brackets upwards. edit: matchmaking based on invasion k/dr would have to be tied to steam account though or people would just make new characters to begin griefing again. edit2: too late to speculate this i'm p sure there will be no good solution and people will get griefed to hell as soon as ds 3 comes out and someone figures out a meta.
Equipment level plus a soft check to see what bosses you've killed and what bosses the invadee has killed would be really nice and solve all my issues with the game. Biggest problem right now is the japan release. Can you imagine the number of japs that will twink invade from the get go cuz they know where all the good shit is at and the best speed run to +15 paths are? Shit is going to be awful. Thankfully I have a buddy and we're gonna do first time co-op playthrough!! Because friendship!! Maybe 2 normal people = 1 twink and we can be 1v1 kings.
Getting killed in a skill-based encounter would still be drastically different than a situation of: "My hits do 15 damage against their 565 damage. This sure is a fair fight".
Damage against twinks was so low in DS1 largely due to them having 99 humanity. Armor definitely helps, but it doesn't take a ton of defense to turn the 70-80 something damage of starting weapons into chip damage. Not that it matters when they backstab you with a Lightning Club. [editline]14th March 2016[/editline] Honestly, twinking is a problem but I'm not sure it's worth complicating the matchmaking system so much. DS2 tried to fix it, and it ended up basically killing any form of meta in favor of rainbow builds once you got to higher SM tiers. It's only a problem at lower levels and can be solved by just not going human, or in the case of DS3(tagged just in case, you never know) [sp]just not going into Ember form.[/sp]

Checking equipment level isn't viable as players can swap out their equipment at any time. Checking what bosses you've killed doesn't work because you can fight the bosses in almost any order you want (I leave the Bell Gargoyles until I have killed every possible boss in DS1, sans 4Kids). The solution to twinking, which is an overblown problem, is to make the Blue Sentinels not fucking shit. If being summoned as a Sentinel was fast, and if it gave a proper reward you'd see a lot more people doing it which would naturally counter twinks (and regular invaders) as players can manually summon in 2 phantoms to help. You don't need to add a bunch of arbitrary restrictions to the PvP like DS2 and Bloodborne did, you just need to create new ways for players to counteract these things and give a proper incentive for doing it.
I think we meant that the game checks equipment in your inventory, not just what you have on you. Though I agree that twinking a very small issue.
That wouldn't help with twinking. All a twink would have to do is drop/discard the shit they don't want. And if it still counts after you drop it you just have the soul memory problem again where picking up dropped equipment slowly drives you up the level brackets rather than soul memory brackets.
Might pick up DS 3 next week. I skipped DS 2. Is the PC getting it the same time as PS4 and Xbox in Japan?
Did you even read through my earlier post?
Yes. It still doesn't prevent twinks from discarding equipment and having only a couple of high level things to stomp new characters. All you really need as a twink is a goodd weapon, so you could literally throw everything else away, have a level 10/15 weapon at level 1 and be counted as level 10/15, depending on what the upgrade cap is.
Adding all these checks to invade someone really over complicates things just to weed out twinks; you guys make it seem like everybody and their mothers are going to be twinking right off the get-go. Thinking about making shit tighter than airport security just to help the little people is actually more detrimental to PvP fundamentally than actually being an improvement. Honestly, I think twinks are just the nature of the beast that can either give or take an experience that could be rather interesting and funny or just an instant death situation. The unpredictability of the event is the entertaining aspect to me and it's entirely dictated by the community.
Might pick up DS 3 next week. I skipped DS 2. Is the PC getting it the same time as PS4 and Xbox in Japan?
weirdly no. it releases on PC april 12th there. japan really doesn't like PC gaming for some reason
It just seems far to restrictive and doesn't really seem to allow for players to have their own playstyles. Like, if you like playing a low level character you're actively punished for upgrading you weapon by forcing you into fights with people with higher levels than you. It also seems like the kind of thing which is actually impossible to explain to a player in-game. A system like that would probably be more detrimental to PvP than Soul Memory to be honest. It has most of the same problems (arbitrarily splitting the community with something they have little control over, forcing players to play a certain way to keep up with or negate the system) and it's much more complicated.
I was under the impression that this was the thing we wanted to solve. Anyway, I don't think twinking is really a problem at all. Getting destroyed by some neckbeard is the charm of dark souls.
Just playing a low level character isn't twinking and shouldn't be punished. That's the problem with trying to stop twinks with mechanical restrictions, you end up hurting other legitimate playstyles in the process.

I have like 3 or 4 playthroughs in 1 and more in 2 (~220 hours) and ive never fought a single twink. Am i just lucky or are people just making it out to be a bigger issue than it really is
How can you dudes so casually duck down, close your eyes and pretend like twinks aren't an issue? It was enough to force From2 to add the guardianship, effigy to prevent invasions and SM mechanic to an otherwise completely functional matchmaking system. I seriously don't believe it when you guys tell me that you've played for more than two seconds when you tell me "oh there were no twinks." 500+ hours, all achievements on like 20 different characters and every. single. dude. got. twinked. Doubletwinked for my co-op runs, which makes up like 18/20 of my characters. Janus has a point, if the guardian aspect of Blue Sentinels did literally anything there wouldn't really be a need to twink. But then you come to the point where that also affects default PvPers and we go full circle with this shit. IMO there shouldn't be a Way of Blue covenant. Blue Sentinels should be eligible to be summoned to anyone that doesn't have Sinner status. This'd fill up the pool of people Sentinels can interact with, given that Sinner status is rare as heck for the playerbase that doesn't PvP. To keep things balanced, I'd make it so that if a Blue Spirit comes to assist, another Darkwraith can enter the session for a 2v2.
Oh please, it really doesn't matter in the end. You're all Souls veterans, as am I. You know what we do when we die? We deal with it, even if the reason is bullshit occasionally. Twinks are only a threat at lower levels. Level up your character and they cease to be a problem. Having trouble with a particular section and don't want to risk invasions? Play offline. It's always more rewarding to overcome difficult challenges without help, after all. You said it yourself, Headhopper. Twinks are what led From to implement Soul Memory as a mechanic, and thereby fuck up that experience for everyone. ANY measure to stop Twinks will get in the way of and ruin the experience for other players. So we suck it up and deal with it, like we always have.
speaking of overcoming difficult challenges without help I am doing just the opposite of that as NonViolent Ned's adventure continues three more have been felled by the hands of completely separate parties while I ran around holding my large piece of wood [t]http://i.imgur.com/kAIxgeC.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/46RPFEh.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/8g8MK7N.png[/t] [editline]14th March 2016[/editline] in-between bosses the game becomes like a puzzle as you have to figure out how to kite enemies around and away from switches, levers, chests, tiny rooms, and crap like that

If the items are available from the start, why punish people for using them? You're effectively complaining that people are more intelligently equipped and statted for their level compared to you. The only way to remove this as an experience would be to severely limit players starting options. Dark Souls wouldn't have half the replay value it has if you couldn't do things like getting a DK halberd within 10 minutes of starting the game with the right know how. Yes there will be people exploiting greater knowledge of the game to abuse new players, but you can't fix that without damaging the rest of the game disproportionately. The game already gives you plenty of options to avoid being invaded before you have the same amount of knowledge. Personally I always enjoy getting attacked by someone with crazy gear early game because it makes me wonder how the fuck they got it. It makes the game more interesting for me, especially before a wiki has been fully established, because it encourages more in depth exploration.
Get your faith up and start using soothing sunlight to keep your NPC phantoms and player summons happy.
that would require killing licia. such barbarity is out of the question! also it's all NPCs. other players are too smart I think
And don't you dare suggest some bullshit mechanic like needing to be a minimum SL or have higher stats to use upgraded equipment. That immediately reduces the versatility of builds, and forces players to level up their characters a certain way to keep using their preferred weapon.
29% off the deluxe edition pre-order on Kinguin right now, ~19 hours left. [editline]ayy[/editline] But if you're gonna buy from a key site, don't expect to play it the minute it releases.
Look, I hate being *that guy*, so I'll only ask this once. If someone's willing to gift me Dark Souls 3 on Steam while it's still discounted prior to release, as soon as I find employment, I'll gladly pay them back with an additional twenty dollars in interest, via Paypal or an e-mail money transfer. Ultimately, I could suck it up and buy it a while after it releases when I find myself with the right money, I know. I'd just prefer to get it and experience it along with everyone else, so I thought I'd try my luck. Anyway, first and last time I'll ask.
it's been 43 bux to pre-order a key on cdkeys for the past few months now. it'll probably still be that much by the time you get money
I got my version off the official Namco store. Do you think there'll be a preload? Can't remember whether there was one for DS2
it's been 43 bux to pre-order a key on cdkeys for the past few months now. it'll probably still be that much by the time you get money
The Canadian dollar blows right now, sadly. Comes to only a couple of bucks less than it costs on Steam. Hey, I have a suggestion for your nonviolent build. The old sun ring and the ring of thorns. If enemies hit you, they damage themselves, so you can still say you had no part in their slaughter.
the rules don't allow items that cause passive damage to enemies, but they do say an exception might have to be made using the old sun ring in drangleic castle to activate golem statues
