I'm probably going to play through ME2 again just because of this texture mod.
Hey guys! I registered here just to ask due to a problem with the steam version and the mod: I've done exactly this. I've copyed textmod exe in the gamefolder renamed masseffect2 exe to me2 exe renamed textmod exe to masseffect2 exe, cliked textmod/masseffect2 exe, selected me2 exe, loaded all textures in, clicked run. Steam starts and launches - suprise - masseffect 2 exe. So i get a second version of the textmod/masseffect2 exe, so where is the problem what am i doing wrong? Thanks so much for a quick reply!
Open Steam and run Mass Effect 2 from there. Steam will think the renamed TexMod is the real masseffect2.exe file and will open TexMod. Then you load all the textures and choose the target as "ME2.exe" and click run.
Time for the second to last squadmate release: Kasumi! brilliant
When you are done, are you going to pack it all together?' Also, will you do weapons as well?
I doubt he'll pack it all together, its better to be modular and let you choose what you want. I assume he might do a few weapons, probably the "iconic" ones like the M8 Avenger (First Assault Rifle). If not? Maybe I'll try em out.
I felt like re-installing ME2 after seeing this.
When you are done, are you going to pack it all together?' Also, will you do weapons as well?
I will definitely be doing a squadmate package (though I'll keep Zaeed and Kasumi separate, as not everyone has them).
The graphics don't satisfy you? what have we become.
A quick tutorial on getting these to run would be quite helpful as well, unless that's already been posted.
The graphics don't satisfy you? what have we become.
As a general rule, the visuals in Mass Effect 2 were quite good. Despite that, the textures used on characters, specifically the body textures, were disappointing. Given how often Mass Effect uses extreme closeups in dialogue sequences, having 512x512 and 1024x1024 textures just doesn't cut it. In my case, it damages the immersion. Is a mod like this necessary? Of course not. I simply chose to do it because it both improves my game and because I have fun doing it.
The graphics don't satisfy you? what have we become.
Dude, the character textures are fucking awful, and BW has acknowledged this.
any updates?
any updates?
Since I just finished this, Grunt says hai. Grunt says hai. Download Here. And that completes all the squadmates! Now to compile the full "optimized" pack.
optimized how?
optimized how?
I lowered the resolution of all character textures (except Garrus and Tali) to 2048x2048 instead of 4096x4096. This reduces the loading time by more than 60% on my system, and it results in almost no noticeable loss in image quality. It also reduces the framerate drops, resulting in much smoother performance, and ingame loading times are shorter as well.
Seeing as I have two three gig 580s, to that I say "boo."
Seeing as I have two three gig 580s, to that I say "boo."
It's not a requirement, but even I was getting tired of the game taking about 15 minutes to load if I had all the squadmates, normandy crew and armor choices going. Now it loads in about 5.
I think you should left both 4096x4096 (for someone who has a badass PC) and 2048x2048 textures (for others).
Hence why I'm leaving the 4096x4096 texmods uploaded and available for people who have no problem waiting that long.
well technically we do, it's just in many-package form.
well technically we do, it's just in many-package form.
I can make a combined pack for those; it'll just be a huge filesize. [editline]26th June 2011[/editline] For anyone worrying that the optimized pack will reduce quality too much, here's a comparison. On top is the 4096x4096 texture, on the bottom is the 2048x2048 texture. Remember: The loading time is nearly 60% less if you use the optimized pack. Is the 4096x4096 texture worth the extra 8-10 minutes? Honest question, as I want to know if I really should make a combined pack for that.
Truth be told, I can't tell the difference between the 2048 and 4096 textures, they look the dead same to me
When we are talking about long load times, are we talking just about starting the game up or about every single loading sequence?
I can definitely tell the difference between the 4096 and 2048. But I don't think it's worth extra loading times because the difference is minimal if you don't pay too close attention.
these look neat will probably try out the pack once it is released for a final playthough before me3
When we are talking about long load times, are we talking just about starting the game up or about every single loading sequence?
Starting the game up is where you'll see the longest wait. If I load the game with every squadmate texmod, two armor mods, and three casual outfits loaded, the game can take anywhere from 13-15 minutes to load. With the optimized pack, the time is cut down to a less annoying 5 minutes or so. Garrus and Tali were the only ones I kept at 4096x4096, and that's because the difference between 2048x2048 and 4096x4096 was massive.
Truth be told, I can't tell the difference between the 2048 and 4096 textures, they look the dead same to me
Rather large at 2560/1600.
These look amazing.
Jean Luc, you should really make those comparison shots a higher resolution... Its like trying to show the difference between an MP3 and a FLAC by compiling them both in a low qaulity youtube video (I used this analogy because people do it...) Really you should be bumping your comparison shots up to 1900x2400 so we can see a more significant difference
