Jean Luc, you should really make those comparison shots a higher resolution...
Its like trying to show the difference between an MP3 and a FLAC by compiling them both in a low qaulity youtube video (I used this analogy because people do it...)
Really you should be bumping your comparison shots up to 1900x2400 so we can see a more significant difference
1680x2100 isn't big enough? I can't actually make the resolution go any higher as my monitor is 1680x1050.
Top work, Jean Luc. Will you get round to tweaking the default N7 helmet as well? Thanks!
Top work, Jean Luc. Will you get round to tweaking the default N7 helmet as well? Thanks!
Absolutely. Now that the primary textures are complete, I have a few miscellaneous projects to get done:
- N7 Heavy Armor (from the intro)
- Mercenary Gang armor (Blue Suns, Eclipse primarily)
- N7 Helmets
- Casual outfits for NPCs (some of them are horrifyingly low resolution)
- Normandy Exterior
- Aria
- Alternate Appearance Pack 1 & 2
That's about all I can think of for now.
I think i'd be hanging out for the Normandy Exterior and Aria the most, maybe other NPCs you interact with, Gianna Parasini, The Illusive Man and whatnot, the secondary characters you see more than once
Small update for folks. I just massively re-did the OP in the hopes that it answers any questions anyone might have, and I hope it's easier to read than before.

Does he really need one though? I don't remember his armor or face lacking in detail all that much.
Need and want are rather different things, but since Aria's getting one and she essentially since on a couch and misses wrex...

Point taken. Bonus points since if I alter his face, I can port it right over to Mass Effect 1 if I want

oh man please do that

wrex already has sexy detail and you'd make him sexier
Updated the OP with three comparison shots of Garrus and Tali, showing the difference between the default textures and what this texture pack provides. I'll be getting more images of more characters as the night goes on, but hopefully this puts to rest the "I can't tell the difference!" crowd.
Just downloaded a bunch of your ultra textures and I have to say thank you for doing these, they are phenomenal. I took a couple of screens of the cook, who had a pretty serious texture upgrade thanks to you! I will also probably be doing a video in the future that shows off the textures.
Feel free to use these photos in the OP.

A little "review" for the mods:
The mods are very awesome. You can see the diffirences on the comparison pics, and i would definetly reccomend the mods for use IF you have a pretty strong computer, and/or don't mind the start-up waiting of approx.4 minutes.
I have tried few of the mods(Male shep's N7 armor, optimized texture pack for companions and default maleshep face mod). I own a Radeon HD 5750 vapor-x, and have an Athlon dual core 2.8 ghz, and I am sorry for the fact that I won't be using the mod because when the game has to show a large area(for example - looking from Kelly to joker on the CIC) the frame rate drops from 55 to 15 fps!
I hope i will use it in the near future, i will try to get an Athlon II x6 1090t or something like that, then after that will crossfire 2 5750-s.(also, BF3, ME3)

Also, it would be cool if you could mod the guns a bit so they would have a bit better texture...
I'm glad everyone is still enjoying the mod :)
I've taken a bit of a break to focus on other projects and schoolwork, but I'll continue doing small mods here and there. One thing I would LOVE to do is to get the mod advertised on The Escapist or something, but I think it needs to be a bit more..."complete" before I do so. Some better organization would also do me good.
Hey, just about to start a playthrough using this mod; just wondering if it's possible to use the LotSB Liara texture on ME1's Liara? Cheers!
Hey Jean, Will you do mods like this on ME3?

Nope, but this one will!

Absolutely.
Great mod JeanLuc, but is anyone else getting virus and malware warnings from comodo or any other antivirus/firewall program?
Great mod JeanLuc, but is anyone else getting virus and malware warnings from comodo or any other antivirus/firewall program?
Is it reacting to the .tpf files or Texmod itself?
Is it reacting to the .tpf files or Texmod itself?
Probably texmod, I also had that problem (AVG) with my anti virus showing it as virus.
Didn't Texmod change the textures in memory, because there was no other way to mod the files?
If that's the case, it kinda makes sense anti-virus software would pick it up as false positive.
Just discovered this mod today, after finally caving to my frustration at the terrible textures in ME2. I downloaded the optimized NPC pack, as well as Zaeed's individual set, and loved them. I followed with the Cerberus uniforms and Shepard's casual gear, and am about to try the N7 replacement.
They are all, to a one, fantastic. Bloody well done.
I must say though, never noticed as huge a startup delay as you warned about; with all the mods running in Texmod (0.9, if that makes the slightest bit of difference) it took maybe two minutes for the game to start. No instability or slowdown (yet) in-game, either. Running WinXP (Pro SP2), Athlon dual-core 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM, 1GB GeForce GTS 250, just for reference.
Looking forward to the other mods you have planned, JeanLuc - mostly the Normandy exterior and the mercenary armour.
Hope you get that schoolwork out the way soon! :P
meh i think my video card could handle this

My specs are like two times better than yours (not to brag) and It takes 10 minutes and 15 fps :(

Well, since then, I've added Kasumi's optimised pack and the various non-armour Shepard outfits, as well as a high-def Normandy exterior made by someone else, and the load time is just over five minutes. The FPS hit isn't that great apart from just when I enter a room - other than that, a steady 50+.
Have you updated your drivers etc? That's the only thing I can think of that it might be. It might even be something to do with your Windows version - I'm running XP (still :P), which is a far less CPU-hungry OS.
Unless you're using the Ultra packs? Those have an advertised startup time of about 10 minutes. They'd certainly hit your FPS harder as well.
Just curious - does the Kestral Armour pack add the Spectre paintjob to armour customization?
Man, a two month bump. I wonder if that's a record.
At any rate, it's time for an update. For the past month or so, my time has been heavily consumed by schoolwork and my job and what free time I have left I haven't really felt like doing any more work on this mod. Well, this has fortunately changed. While I will certainly not be able to output work at anywhere near the rate I used to, I am getting time to fix errors in my previous textures as well as do other minor ones.
To "celebrate" this, I have almost completely revised my texture setup for Tali's high res update, and I think it's one of the best I've ever done. I learned a lot about Photoshop during my time creating this mod and, since Tali was one of my first releases, it only felt right to give her an updated treatment with this new knowledge. The below image is a comparison of the vanilla (default ingame) textures and this revised update.

You can download the updated tpf file here.
While I wish I could have an entirely new release for you, that simply isn't in the cards right now. Over the next week or so, I'm going to be devoting time to ironing out every list kink for my released modifications and updating the download links appropriately. As I said to the folks on BSN, I'm hoping to have a slightly more "public" release of this modification, as no information on it has been carried on gaming news sites. Regardless of that outcome, I would like to thank all of you here on Facepunch who have given me support and suggestions through this experience. I've learned a lot, I've had fun, and it's always a joy to see people enjoy what I've created.
I just discovered your hi-res textures about a week ago and started another play through with them all. You've done such a fantastic job with all these, thank you so much for all your hard work. I've always appreciated the little details and this certainly brings them.
I look forward to any of your future works. Keep up the excellent work.
Just started playing ME2 again a few days ago, naturally i fired up the high-res textures, I can't play without 'em! What i was wondering is, what are the chances of possibly having non-cerberus logo outfits and HD oldschool normandy outfits for people to mainly use after the suicide mission? maybe a HD normandy (external) redo, cerberus and no-cerberus logos. Your work is good, i tried the new tali and its excellent, just throwin' some ideas out there, because after the suicide mission, well, we all know what admiral hackett says
Thanks for the updates Jean Luc. Would you consider reskinning the default N7 helmet + facemask if you have the time?
