• Mass Effect 2: High Resolution Texture Mod

also just wondering if it would be possible to grab a copy of the ultra textures not in .tpf format for personal modification. There's a few colours of uniforms and such that I'd like to change, but only with your high res textures
Sorry for the lack of response, folks. @pruxoid I will definitely be doing the N7 facemask. @CSalvation: To be perfectly honest, I'm not all that certain about releasing the high resolution assets into the wild. I feel like I can trust you folks, but I've had far too many of my pieces stolen in the past to feel comfortable releasing anything close to the source.

There's been a tpf extractor out for a long time and I've used it a few times, including on your textures.
you might as well just release them. Regardless, I'm still not crazy about making the textures completely public domain, especially when it's so easy to make an edit and post it as your own without giving due credit.
JeanLuc, fair call that and I can understand it. Do you mind if I extract them from the tpf files and modify them? No plans to release them publicly, just change some colours on the suits and such. Say no and I won't do it, I actually respect your work Edit: Apparently they won't open in this TPF extractor I found. Damn.
According to previous posting patterns we're due any day now for another huge update form JeanLuc. Can't wait!
Just registered to get this information up here since it may be relevant and a welcome technical upgrade to the fantastic texture updates by JeanLuc. Bunch of devs have taken up Texmod to continue it's development as opensource. http://code.google.com/p/texmod/ They've renamed it uMod, and they are currently up to a 1.0 r40 release. There's a few fantastic upgrades that may positively affect the stellar work JeanLuc has done. Here's a JeanLuc quote: "Loading time is indeed a couple minutes at the start of the game. Unfortunately there's absolutely nothing I can do about that (Fucking texmod!)" The new Texmod uses an updated injector to get the textures in. It's faster, and easier to use. Secondly, you can turn on, off, even update textures while you have the game running. i.e. change a .tpf, click UPDATE (reload) button, and it'll send the updated tpf to the live game, etc. Finally, it has a template saver so you can setup say Mass Effect 2, with all the TPF's you use in what order and save it as a template for quick loading. So no more having to setup Texmod every time you want to play. Give it a shot, y'all. Cheers, Chan

For as long as Texmod keeps working I'll just use that. I can live with a couple extra seconds waiting when I start the game. And as milktree pointed out; it's not very user friendly. Ps. The links for most of the Ultra mods in the OP don't seem to work for me (Jack, Thane, Samara and Grunt do, the rest doesn't).
That program would probably be pretty cool to use, but yeah, not user friendly, if it kept the texmod UI and features, THEN it would be better, i'll be sticking to texmod too
so how do you even use this? the interface is not exactly what i would call user friendly and the readme doesn't say that much
It has multiple methods in order to use it. Let's go with the easiest method. 1) Load uMod 2) Click Main then "Start game through uMod" 3) Go to your Mass Effect 2 Binaries folder and select Masseffect2.exe 4) Once Mass Effect loads, alt-tab back to umod and click "open texture/package" Locate the texture you wish to load, and double click it or select it and click ok That's it The readme describes other methods of using it, such as the dx9 hook and other ways. It also describes how to update textures already loaded (this feature is likely meant for the texture creators, since they can have mass effect running, update a texture, tab to umod and click "update (reload)" and it'll update the textures without having to restart anything. You can use whatever suits you. If you have multiple texture packages (.tcf) files, you can use steps 4 to load the rest. Once you have a setup you like with the order you want them in, you can save it as a template. Then rather than "Open texture/package" you can just go to main and "Load Template" You can also associate a default template with Mass Effect as well so when you "Start Game using umod" it'll automatically, start the game, load your template in the texture order that you set up. Finally, when I said seconds, I want to be clear here. What might take texmod 5 minutes to load, may take umod just seconds to do the same. iotw, no more getting a cup of coffee waiting for Mass Effect w/ texmod to start up. ;) Cheers
Is there any way to get this texture mods textures into png format? By myself I have gotten the tpf into several dds but I still cant get dds into png because I don't know how to. Nevermind I got it.

Does not seem to be working for me. I load Umod and add the ME2.exe in Binaries. Afterwards I start the game through Steam and everything seems to work fine. Whoever after Alt-Tabbing, all the options in Umod are greyed out, thus I can't load any textures. Anybody with a similar situation?
I think after loading the textures you gotta hit update or update/reload or something, atleast, i think, i don't like it exporting in dds so I personally don't use it
I think after loading the textures you gotta hit update or update/reload or something, atleast, i think, i don't like it exporting in dds so I personally don't use it
That's the thing. I can't choose any of the options in Umod. They are all greyed out for some reason. Edit: Nevermind, I got it working. I had to activate the global hook from the main menu and after starting ME2 all the options were clickable. Most texture packs don't seem to work though, I tried Miranda's, Jacob's and Mordin's and none of them loaded. The only one that worked for me was the Kestrel Armor pack. The good news it's that I didin't suffer any hiccups or stuttering from the textures, and the FPS are normal even with my ATI card (Textmod lowered them to 15 or something). The game loading isn't even affected unlike Textmod. Let's hope they can fix the texture package loading.

I haven't played video games for years then suddenly felt I wanted to play something - I chose mass effect 2 fell in love. I appreciate the skill you have making these texture packs JeanLuc they are absolutely awesome!!
Is there any alternative to Texmod? It destroys the framerate for no apparent reasons, areas that aren't even effected by the texture replacements. Why is it so garbage, why doesn;t the creator fix this and why does it hit the framerate so hard if it's just a modding program? I've tried lowering every setting to no avail, even disabled Vsync and got a LOWER framerate. Vanilla:50-60 FPS, Texmod:16 FPS. Amazing textures but they aren't very enjoyable if I can't play the game to have them.

Only the minute extra start-up time. You sure it's because of Texmod that your FPS is dropping?

My screen only supports 50Hz so I thought maybe that is the reason I only get 50 frames. Also, I was referring to the creator of texmod. It's not the textures affecting the game.
looks the same, bruv, imo.
