Does this feel like Fallout 1/2 in terms of atmosphere or is it different?
Don't forget the paragraph book, though.
The updated version puts this ingame, along with voice narration for it.

To me it feels like something between Fallout 1/2 or Fallout:NV.

Sometimes, but mostly no. New Vegas maybe?

I'd say the atmosphere is more like the Fall: Last Days of Gaia, but then I played that so long ago it's a bit of a guess.
I really want to get this but I'm on the fence about it
I'm really picky when it comes to turn based games and insofar it sounds like it still needs some patchwork, especially with the percentages and the amount of jams you get. The graphics don't bug me much even though they almost look on par with silent storm so that's good enough for me visually
How's the gunfighting itself though minus that? Does it revolve around you just blasting one guy at a time because they all take a million shots with generic HP like in xcom or is it more like jagged alliance where you can destroy limbs and disable people without killing them?
You can curb down your jamming by using improved weapon parts if one of your guys has a gunsmith ability. Cold-Eye starts with gunsmithing for one of his skills.

I was disappointed by this game, it felt way too structured and not nearly as deep as I had been hoping for. I'm going back to XCOM/Xenonauts for my fix, I regret spending money on this game, I should have watched some Let's Plays.
Oh well, live and learn. I recommend watching some Let's Plays before picking this up, because I greatly regret my purchase. I've been trying to get into it, but it just doesn't do it for me, I see the potential but the execution rubs me the wrong way and I can't get into this game.
Maybe I'll come back to it again, and maybe the classic Wasteland I got with my purchase is more enjoyable, time will tell. Just be forewarned to watch LP's before buying to know what you're getting into.

I don't think there's ever been a game with hit percentages shown where people haven't complained that they miss too much. (Fallouts, XCOM, Omerta, etc.) Memory bias and poor understanding of how probability works comes into play.
God I fucking love this progression. I'm rarely finding better gear, but even slight improvements end up mattering. I also like how deciding to battle an entire outpost of guys [sp]those Red Skorpions with that energy weapons using nerd after the initial 100 scrap tax[/sp] is tough as hell but still possible.
Also, praise explosives.
[editline]delicious burst fire[/editline]
I also picked up Chisel, who has a 2AP cost (post grip tape) crowbar and 10AP. I got him behind a heavy gunner who had 150hp and he was dead before he'd even ran out of HP. Holy Shit.

I've never had bad luck in xcom or jagged alliance or whatever though, at least when it comes to accuracy. i really like jagged alliance's system because you can spend a lot of AP making sure you have an accurate shot or spend little AP and get a less accurate one (great for if you have a little bit of AP left and you're motivated enough to use it) but obviously this is just click on target and fight the RNG odds and hope you don't get owned when your turn is up.
From watching videos, it looks like they have no idea how they even wanted to handle gunplay. There's random cover blocks added throughout the maps but they're so scattered it just turns the gunfights in to "shoot enemy every turn until they are dead" and not about what turn based games are MADE to be: tactical. It's lacking the one feature that makes the genre what it is. From these videos I've seen they've just been shooting mutant people and they've been shooting bandits who just sit behind cover and don't move at all. And the environments they are engaging in are so narrow there's absolutely no room for tactics.
It's literally just sitting behind cover and shooting anyone and anything that comes close enough to get shot. Obviously I could be wrong on this though because the videos are very lacking and some of it's really early game, but I really doubt they deviate a whole lot from what I've seen. Especially because one of the videos was like an hour and a half long and had about five fights in it and all of them were literally the same narrow pathways with five-six random pieces of furniture to hide behind. That's lame as hell
honestly though games like this are the reason demos existed

This is all mostly true, especially about the shitty environments.
I played a fair bit so far and i don't really mind the combat that much. It could be better, most of the maps could use more tactical options sure but i feel like it does it's job well enough. It has more options than xcom so it's not too terrible, the problem really comes mostly from the maps. As for jamming and hit percentages, they become way less of problem when you level up your shitty rookies and get something better than a rusty garand, it was exactly like that in tactics, and fallout, dunno what people were expecting when it comes to that.
Also, i haven't paid a cent for this, it was a gift, so don't assume this is bias or whatever.
[editline]aaa[/editline]
Come to think of it, people should stop comparing this with xcom because these are two completely different games with a different focus, one's an RPG and one's a strategy game. Wasteland 2 could certainly be as tactical as XCOM but is that really necessary ? For a modernized version of it's predecessors, the things it should live up to, i'd say it's pretty good.
SO um am I supposed to be dying randomly? Trying to travel to the Ag Center for the first time right after getting the radio parts and I got attacked by giant frogs with like, 120 CON.

At the start you seem to be attacked only by weak raiders and maybe those lizards so that's pretty odd, yeah. Try taking another route or something.
Looks like my current team works greatly, I've done typical setup for my characters.
1. Heavy Bruiser, trained in melee, shotguns and heavy weapons apart from that he has demolitions, hard ass and brute force, I started him out with just melee fighting skills then acquired shotgun skills and heavy weapons as I progressed, with body armour he's a very tough bullet sponge, either serving lead sandwich, throwing explosives around or punching things until they die.
2. Sniper/Recon, Long range sniper rifle and blunt weapons up-close, typical dude to open safes, lock pick doors, disable alarms and shoot anything that moves accurately from long range, he also has perception. Main and greatest damage dealing character in the entire team, but almost useless upclose usually I let the bruiser or soldier sit next to him and back him up.
3. Engineer/Geek, typical science character with computer science skill, surgeon, field medic, toaster repair, smart ass and uses energy weapons, later on I managed to get two good energy weapons with this dude now it's probably one of the biggest badasses in the entire team who turns his victims into dust. This character does weaponsmithing for the entire team too.
4. Soldier/Leader, character which I consider being sort of a main guy in the team, has mainly fighting skills in rifles and smgs with repair skill, leadership, barter and kiss ass. I didn't pick more skills with this character I wanted to make up my mind later on as to what will fit or be needed.
This team so far has been successful for me and it tears through anything I have encountered this far but it isn't perfect obviously mostly due to the way skills are spread. Also it's very handy to have a heavy bruiser on team with really high strength so he can carry most crap you will find, I hoarded all the junk I found in Ag Centre and made a lot of dosh and when you find military backpack for trinket slot then it's even better.
Edit:
Looks like it's actually worthwhile to pick up any cow shit you can find, then bring it to this dude in citadel.

Shit for explosives, I'm all over this shit.
Edit:
The fuck I got myself into, easter egg of sorts.

the frog is a party test
if you die to it your party isn't properly setup or you suck at the game
Is there only one giant frog in the entire game?
I came across those god damn spider robots. Fucking wiped me out fast.
Save an RPG or two for them, they deal massive damage.
DAMONTA SIDEQUEST SPOILERS
[sp]does anyone know how to save Binh in[/sp] Damonta? [sp] every time I shoot the robit lady she explodes Binh faster than my rangers can ready their weapons[/sp]
[editline]a[/editline] nevermind I did it, if you're having problems with [sp]Binh[/sp] good luck.
[editline]fuck[/editline] 33 hours into the game and I just hit the second half
Is there only one giant frog in the entire game?
Might have been a different giant frog, this was during a random encounter, not the one you find near hte radio towers.
Giant Frogs are not even that bad, I mean, there will be plenty harder worse things later on.
Slicer dicers are tough as shit, but they can become much more easier to kill if you've got someone with a powerful energy weapon (and explosives).
Oh man, I kinda want to restart and make group of dudes specced in fist fighting
I got such a warm fuzzy feeling when I brought Scotchmo to the Citadel.
So in the prison, [sp]do you guys kill everyone anyways? I told them no to taking my weapons and a fewhundred kills later I wonder if I lost a lot of gameplay...[/sp] :v:
Edit: Replayed up to the part to see and it makes no difference, it's written so that you get a few extra sentences but the rest of the area is the same by design.
What the fuck is this inXile...

Both are blocked from site from all of those players.
The writing and the humor are what I love about the game. Sometimes it can be a bit obvious with the jokes, but often you can breeze over stuff so the obnoxious stuff can pass.
"This blackhawk is down." in the prison. That deadpan stuff you'd randomly hear.
And of course, the Woof and the Woof.
