I want to see how they will handle the recoil of a ballistic gun in zero gravity. I assume you will need something to stabalize yourself with magnetic boots or something. I won't want to smack myself against the wall everytime I fire a gun when boarding a ship with narrow corridors and no gravity.
They've talked about it before. There are going to be suits meant for zero-g combat that have recoil compensation thrusters and the like, as well as some form of magnetic boot, but if you lack those you will just be propelled around like you described.
Wouldn't conventional ballistic weaponry overheat in a vacuum anyways?
Wouldn't conventional ballistic weaponry overheat in a vacuum anyways?
Depends on how long you fire, stuff still gives off heat in form of radiation. I don't think recoil will be a problem in the future, when there will be compact powered armors with implented jetpacks. But you should be able to just turn assist mode off and use the recoil to propel yourself through a low-g room
Wouldn't conventional ballistic weaponry overheat in a vacuum anyways?
I'd imagine that pretty much all small arms (ballistic, directed energy, or otherwise) would generate enough heat to cook in a vacuum. I'm guessing that they are gonna address that somehow with heatsinks or coolant cartridges? Maybe heavier barrel upgrades or interchangeable barrels. tbh if they just sort of handwaved that problem I wouldn't be super upset.
I haven't played since 1.0, decided to go to PTU (Its an Alpha, PTU should just be the normal thing) and oh god, before I had like 15fps no mater the setting, now I'm getting 30+ on very high (Haven't tested other settings) [editline]19th February 2015[/editline]
What? I can't have an outdated AK-47/SKS/M16/M4/SCAR in space? You sure know how to ruin a mans day, JP. :v:
I want a space AK.
I want a space AK.
Me as well! also, I want a space bayonet. Maybe one that shocks. But none of this one stab dead like in COD or whatever. Maybe a stab from the shocking bayonet would knock out his suit systems or something. Could be a cool thing. Idk.
Oh man, that M16A1. I want to get all Vietnam on people's asses.
Oh man, that M16A1. I want to get all Vietnam on people's asses.
Pirates board your ship and you're all like 'Say hello to my leetle friend!'
Pirates board your ship and you're all like 'Say hello to my leetle friend!'
If only I could drain all the fuel from my ship into the cabin and make sure this is the last thing boarders hear before the entire thing turns into hell orbiting Earth:
I had a dream I was flying a Gladiator against capital ships in Star Citizen. Is this what hype feels like?
If only I could drain all the fuel from my ship into the cabin and make sure this is the last thing boarders hear before the entire thing turns into hell orbiting Earth:
If I can't fill a Starfarer full of fuel and detonate it inside of stations then I dunno if I want to play Star Citizen.
Did the PTU just end or is the PTU website not allowing anyone edit stuff? I don't like the random number/letter password it gave me since there is no remember password button
The patch is going live, so the PTU's down. You can get out of the PTU by resetting the launcher settings to defaults. If that doesn't work, open up Star Citizen\Launcher\LauncherData\(bunch of shit).settings in Notepad. Edit every instance of "Public_Test" to be "Public" except for the last one that should appear after your username and "payload" in a big mess of settings all set to 1. Save the file and reopen the launcher, and it should prompt you to sign into the live environment instead of "Sign into PTU".
also you can enable autologin there, for people who don't want to enter their password everytime.
So when the FPS module drops, we should try and organize some games where we just fuck around with the stuff they give us instead of ACTUALLY playing it the way we are supposed to. Like spamming the grav-gen on and off while trying to do zero-G Parkour.
Great, now that PTU is offline, on public I only found one game, but it had 1min left, and haven't found anything since, been doing this for 2 hours about now. [editline]19th February 2015[/editline] Also, it seems my frames dropped by 5~ fps

Haven't tried the dogfight module for a while, noticed that we can now turn Lead indicators on. YES! Also they have changed something, now its actually viable to use the mouse with fixed weapons now. Heck its actually more fun to fly in relative mode with the mouse than the current floaty mouse mode. Also noticed that they sort of tweaked the strafing to be more smoother, so good but I still shouldn't be slowing down when strafing when I am not at my max velocity. So yeah pretty good step up. Though that said they really need to make the UI more easier to see.

Literally the only way to fly with fixed guns with a mouse and keyboard.
Yeah but they made it so that in relative mode, in the centre there is that tiny deadzone and in that tiny deadzone the ship actually follows the mouse like in warthunder. Its a setting you can turn on, but forgotten the name. Camera unlock? That said, it isn't mouse overpowered since the warthunder like follow the mouse is only in that very tiny deadzone. And you still have to manuever in relative mode to make sure the enemy target is right in that tiny deadzone which is difficult if the enemy is constantly moving and pretty much impossible to take advantage with the PIP, with lead indicator its more easier. Edit: its basically warthunder Tank sniper mode
and that, ladies and gents, is how you go from no infractions straight to a 3rd strike week long probation
man they really dropped the hammer on him. A whole week. Of probation
man they really dropped the hammer on him. A whole week. Of probation
clean up your fucking act or I swear to god I'll put you on a 12 hour ban!!!
If anyone doesn't know, probation on the SC forums is what tempbanning is here. When the forum says someone is "Banned", it's permanent (actually 10 years). My point was, if FP had a single, official chat, like it was just as built in as the ticker, it'd be the worst place. On the upside, I guess it'd accelerate shitlords getting themselves banned. Today's gonna be a big day. Orion concept art, sale, and minigame, and a big design post on mining written by Mr. PU, Tony Z himself. Plus Jump Point and other stuff. Also, the bug that was killing the matchmaking server on Monday has been identified and squished, so the devs are rescheduling Devs vs Backers AC Battle Royale for this Monday, this time at 1pm CIG LA time, instead of 4pm. Having it three hours earlier means Austin and Manchester devs can get in on the fun, and hopefully the server won't collapse and die this time.
It was a brilliant idea of them to schedule devs vs. community fights to stress test the servers. It really is the best way, people break it, devs are happy to research what broke it, and we are happy that they fixed it early.
Can't wait to shoot down the debs on my birthday in my aroura :v:
So, I've just created a thread on the official forums for creating wreckage scenarios for the PU wreckage spawning system. There are prizes for the top two ideas. Please join in with your serious ideas for adding lots of variety to the wreckage spawns. Remember that most of the time, the ship is going to be too trashed to tape together and fly away in. Separate from that contest (which FPers are excluded from), but using the same rules, I'll give away a $5 skin or subscriber-store hangar flair (the jukebox, drinks bar, etc.) item to the best Facepuncher suggestion. You have to post your idea to the SC forum, but make the pilot's name an anagram of "Facepunch" or "Gayry Newman" (specifically gayry) and post in this thread with your forum name and the name of the first pilot in your suggestions after you post the idea, and when I pick winners for the contest (sometime a bit after 5:30pm PST on the 24th), I'll pick a winner out of just the FP entries. I'll be lenient on the anagram name as long as it's close (add letters to make it sound better if you want), and you can also use an anagram of your FP username. The only other rule is, please don't be a shitlord on the SC forums in my thread. I won't pick you to win if you're on probation (banned) on the SC forums when the contest ends. You're still eligible if you're tempbanned here for some reason, though.
Posted mine under "Scotty Wirer"
Class: Special Hazard Ship: Drake Cutlass Search and Rescue Red Registered owner: Nae Mangy Wry Damage: Med bay door sealed shut, powerplant disabled Hazard: Occasional random shifts in magnetic field cause items to fly around (possibly hitting player at extremely high velocity). Backstory: En route to an emergency medical call deep in space, the pilot decided to override throttle limits causing the engines to blow out. The powerplant was damaged, and for unknown reasons caused the onboard MRI unit to malfunction. Now there are violent magnetic fields surrounding the ship, flinging metal items around at random intervals. The medbay is the most dangerous, with surgical tools flying everywhere. Contained in the medbay is copious amounts of expensive last-resort medicines. The crew were all killed within the first few magnetic debris bursts.
jono peer-pressured me to join FPCorp, so I applied for it. gib rust key plz I was actually waiting to get my own org started before joining FPCorp as an affiliate. Made a second account that'll just sit there, mostly, and hold the keys to the org, but it's also the founder which gives me flexibility to fuck around and org hop without having to find someone else to carry the torch on my own thing. Also, more scenarios, guys. Right now the only people in the running for my FP prize are [del]two assholes[/del]two of my favourite people.. ahem, point is, I wanna see more, especially because it benefits the whole game the more quality scenarios get placed on the devs' laps.
you are now BANNED [editline]20th February 2015[/editline] Enjoy your red membership card at FP corp
Banned for applying for a rust key. 100% legit. And, actually, I had org invites blocked because I've just been receiving them at random, and I even received one AFTER toggling blocking off.
I made a corp for my friends and I. We plan on, when the game is near completion, to set up desks for all of us. (me, my roommate, my one friend, my girlfriend, and my roommates girlfriend). We want to set it up like a battle station. Then just play this game and have no life. Also, for when we are all hanging out in the same big multi-crew ship, make a surround sound setup in the room for immersion and stuff. Would be kick butt.

As long as you had enough bandwidth plugged into the building, that could be fucking amazing. "Guys, they're boarding, everyone not on the bridge or in a turret immediately put your helmets on! I'm going to space the corridors to blow them back out in 6, 5, 4..." Rule 1: Any engineer doing a Scotty impression is kicked out of the org and the party immediately. One fun thing for FPCorp to do when the PU is live enough to do cargo runs between system would be, load up a Starfarer full of turnips or whatever else the cheapest commodity is, and then have it be escorted by everyone in the org online at the time. Maybe have several haulers with the same thing. Big convoy, flying in formation, the whole thing, playing it ironically serious for kicks. Point is to make it look like a big valuable target to pirates. If raiders succeed in blowing up the 'farer, or it dumps cargo to distract them so the corp can retreat, it'll be like, enjoy the 6,000 tons of turnips, boys, I hope those destroyed Hornets and Cutlasses were worth it!
