Dangit I should wake up earlier because that's broken now
Tali flying from the belt back to Cellin Station in the multicrew demo map in Q-Drive, showing how you zoom past astronomical objects through ~2000km.
gameplay wise, the 2000km distance serves the exact same purpose as 2000Mm, in that it's completely impractical to fly normally, and things have the feeling of being super far away increasing it would be more realistic, but the major downside would be the actual travel time would be much more boring, since you're 1000x less likely to see planets, moons and other features whiz past like they do in the demo [editline]15th August 2015[/editline] take ksp for example, due to the distances, you rarely see ANYTHING other than your origin and destination when transferring from planet to planet
But that's what space is like. Being able to see the detailed surfaces of other planets from the orbit of one planet without using some sort of high-powered magnification is bullshit, unless they're orbiting each other closely. It'd make Star Citizen look like casual-tier garbage.
Dangit I should wake up earlier because that's broken now
Fixed the link with a more permanent Dropbox upload. Man, I miss pomf.se. Nothing I've found is as good.

The week after a major demo like Gamescom is always hectic and fraught with issues. When we make demos like that we lock down development streams so that we can focus on stability and last minute fixes. When we unlock the streams and merge changes back into our development streams… things break, builds break, people break (just kidding about that last one; the Gamescom demo energized us all!)

Gameplay Blockers: - The Audio team in the UK did a LOT of work on the Gamescom demo over the last few months, so are getting back in sync with them to make sure we have support for FPS weapons, HUDs, hit indications, crack-bys, ricochets, other necessary Foley and ambient audio to make the game feel alive and responsive. - Network optimization, server stability, and general bug fixing are needed. - We’ll be working to integrate some engineers at F42 with the coders at Illfonic over the next weeks to give this the attention it needs. - Ladders. While they are more user friendly, there are still edge cases that we are tracking down.

Art Blockers: - All those thousands of motherfucking animations do you think we completed them all in one week?
RtV notes: - The poor German guy who was switching game feeds during the live demos had as many as nine different feeds to select from (10 demo units, one refused to output video but was still playing live during the demo, probably on the Connie) - A week before Gamescom, the demo was very fragile (entering the Tali would kill you 5 times out of 7), but they managed to pull it off - There was no A/C in the venue and it was the hottest day in Germany on record; when Ben got off-stage he was incoherent and about to pass out from the heat. - Modular parts like the Tali's internal modules may be interchangeable between some ships, eventually - Saitek wants to emulate CIG's open development philosphy with respect to the Star Citizen HOTAS. The community team doesn't know exactly what that means but Saitek says they're interested in sharing the whole process, and hopefully take input from the community as they iterate on the design - The initial social/planetside release may or may not have shared hangars; they did a test at CIG Austin and it went great - The Idris at the end of the multicrew demo was scripted, not flying - The Endeavour and Crucible concept sales are on the horizon, as is a sale on the Vanguard variants - this was asked in the context of "will there be more sales before Citizencon?" but as usual CIG won't sell a concept until everything for the sale post is ready - The HOTAS is far from shipping, probably a year out; the products on stage were prototypes that probably just non-functioning shells - Sandi sent Disco Lando an email at 3am this morning to ask why he wasn't asleep; his response was that he was answering her emails - Larger hangar bays are in the works for bigger ships - The UIs are being built so that you will be able to recolour individual sections as you see fit e.g. to compensate for colourblindness - Someone asked what game mechanics will be in place to prevent people from stuffing ships full of players. Answer, life support can only do so much, for one. Clown cars the exception, clown NPC confirmed. - The Esperia Prowler is still not out for concept yet; they're establishing things about the Tevarin before they proceed - The next deep-dive design post is likely going to be a science post paired with the Endeavour - CR has asked that the Caterpillar be prioritized for soon (but not "#1 do this by end of day or be fired" level of priority), and Lisa confirms the Cat is on a draft list of the next several ships -- paging dai - The Herald was being worked on upstairs in CIG LA during RtV... yessssssssssss - "Will we see human tech on Xi'An ships as a result of MISC's technology exchange?" "MMHMM, can't say more than that." - No current plans on remaking the Aurora (but it definitely will need at least SOME work to bring it in line with the new pipeline's standards) - Ben accidentally called the Merlin the Nugget at some point for some reason - The Gamescom free-fly period is being extended until August 24th Oh, and race starts have been adjusted to stop the starting tunnel from being a scrapheap. they need some rapid prototyping, and parrallel prototyping in design. I liked some of this guy's work on it. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~spdow/

I'm skeptical on what the hell Saitek can or will do, but it's not costing US money to watch them go at it.

So... I tried to log into AC after many months of not trying... and it would seem that it doesn't want to load any equipment on my Hornet. So its literally just a spaceframe. As one can imagine this makes spaceflight quite troublesome. What do?
When in doubt, delete the inventory.xml inside your USER folder. If that doesn't work, delete your USER directory. That usually solves like 90% of Star Citizen problems.
Sorry for the double post, but based Grmlz just put out a great and really comprehensive video on Star Citizen, it's current state, and where it's going. This guy is hands down the best War Thunder player on Youtube, and one of my favorite Youtube channels period because he's so informative and helpful. [t]https://i.imgur.com/LTXk9Dy.jpg[/t] :ok: I guess I'm done doing the Elite thread any favours. I especially love the snap defensive retort to something I never even said as if I was an uninformed troll. Great thread.
I guess I'm done doing the Elite thread any favours. I especially love the snap defensive retort to something I never even said as if I was an uninformed troll. Great thread.
Regardless of how "right" you are, it's in very poor taste to go to a game's thread and effectively say "hey guys I know your game's promises didn't pan out, but WOW check out the hot promises THIS game has made and is 100% sure to fulfill!" I think the only time that sort of thing is acceptable is when you have a fuck up on the scale of the genre killing and franchise ending Mechwarrior Online. Which, despite its serious issues, Elite is most certainly not.
Did anyone even fucking read my post? I went in there to share the free trial info and clearly stated what kind of problems they can expect, since it's a risk-free way of checking out how it's going. If there was an Elite free weekend I'd like to hear about it. This fucking imagined rivalry between the two games and their fanbases is retarded. Yes I'm mad. My post was longer and much more nuanced and diplomatic than "hey dudes fuck Elite buy SC" specifically to counter that exact "rival fanboy" perception. I went to extra lengths to tell people not to buy in and that deadlines are probably going to slip on the scheduled releases for the rest of this year. I was blunt and honest. How could I have been more clear about this? jfc I'm going to remember this if I catch any of them ignorantly shitposting about SC anywhere on the forum over things they would've known if they'd actually tried out the trial.

Why do you care so much about Star Citizen, dude? It's not like you're getting a kickback from Cloud Imperium. For some reason, you're way more invested in the game's development than it makes sense to be. It's practically an obsession. Yeah, Frontier blows and they make dumb decisions, and calling them out on that is A-okay. But to go into the Elite thread and post about "Hey, look at all the great shit STAR CITIZEN is doing!" is pretty lame. If they wanted to hear about Star Citizen, they'd find this thread and check it out. It's on page one. If I'm not convincing you, consider how upset and emotional you seem to be getting because of the reactions people in the Elite thread had to your post. They're well aware of the problems the game has, and they're not like the sycophants on the Frontier forums. You're not telling them anything they don't already know. And they don't trash-talk SC, not in all the time I've lurked there. Many of them, in fact, are hoping SC can succeed where ED failed. Having said all that, I agree with Why485. That post you made was unnecessary. Think about your emotional reaction and decide for yourself whether or not it may be a good idea for you to take a step back and distance yourself from Star Citizen until some of the flak the game's been taking from ignorant idiots dies down. Because what I see is you taking any insult to Star Citizen personally. And that makes no fucking sense. And before you call me out on not caring about SC, remember that I've spent over a thousand dollars already backing CiG.

You feel the need to jump in and write enormous walls of text anywhere Star Citizen is mentioned. To say you come off strong would be an understatement. I know you mean no harm or offense, but God damn, take it easy. You take every slight against Star Citizen or even simple misunderstanding as the most personal insult possible, and then proceed to suffocate some poor bystander with well meaning but terribly overbearing posts. He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster. You're becoming the Star Citizen equivalent of the infamously insufferable and arrogant ED Shill.
Just went to read the post, it seemed fine and informative to whoever wanted to read it all. That said i didnt really notice any reaction other than a few ratings which should be ignored anyways. If a post seems "overbearing" to someone it's on them to just move onto the next post if they dont want to read it all. That said im known to write mega postnaughts on topics im interested in myself so maybe im biased.
I thought the post was a bit too elite bashing and might come off as gloating, but the reaction wasn't even that bad? the only guy who responded directly was civil, and half the dumbs are from people here for some reason [editline]17th August 2015[/editline]
the infamously insufferable and arrogant ED Shill.
who? I want to see this :v:

Hell, there's still people on the MechWarrior Online forums saying PGI did nothing wrong. :doubt:
i have started down a dark path...
who? I want to see this :v:
Ah, the tragic story of ED Shill. It's kind of funny in hindsight, but Jesus Christ dealing with this guy in the past was a real chore. Back when Elite was a lot better and things were really hopeful, he was so driven to prove to everybody how great Elite was and how shitty Star Citizen was, that he was a major contributing factor for why people on 4chan started to hate on Elite. He shilled so hard, he made a lot people hate Elite. Here's a random Star Citizen thread he invaded. Everything he wrote was instantly recognizable because he would start point by point dissecting a post and explain why Elite was going to be better than Star Citizen in literally every way. He would back up every single one of his points with links the FAQ page he wrote on the Elite Dangerous wiki. It wasn't just 4chan. Eventually he got tired of everybody calling him out on there, so he went over to reddit instead. His posts are hard to find though, because though because they're so old. He had the same exact posting style though, except now on Reddit he was allowed to bold and italicize every other word to emphasize how right he was. His posting eventually became so toxic and damaging to Elite Dangerous that he was banned from the ED subreddit. If you want a picture of insanity, here it is. This is somebody who genuinely cannot recognize that his "help" is unwanted and ultimately damaging. It's sad, really. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sQrJJzJ.png[/t] The ultimate irony of this whole thing is that he's now horribly disillusioned with Elite because it didn't live up to everything he spent the past couple years hyping it up to be. He now spends his days doing the exact same thing with rFactor 2. He praises it as the second coming of Christ with the same obsessive linking in every other sentence while shitting on Assetto Corsa. This time though, he uses multiple alts because people recognize his name. If you're curious why I know so much about him, it's because we frequented all the same places (SC and ED threads on /vg/, SC and ED subreddits, and simracing subreddits). It was pretty difficult not to bump into him, and it was intensely aggravating having to put up with it for so long. At the same time though, it was also fascinating to watch him because I was curious to figure out what could possibly drive somebody to act like this. Anyway Elix, you're uncomfortably close to this kind of behavior, and I really don't want to see you become SC Shill.
I saw a thread with next to no signs of life for a week because the game has very little to do and the devs are fucking about with terrible marketing decisions, and I decided to let them know there was a short-term zero-risk distraction available and explicitly warned people off of spending money on it. For that I was stereotyped and blown off with strawmen arguments. Perhaps posting about it at all was a mistake, but if you want to piss me off, it's to reply with the equivalent of "you just wasted the entire block of time you spent posting that because I'm not going to read it, look at this photo of my balls". Fuck me for trying to be nice, I guess I've learned my lesson about that now.
I don't see any real issues here. If I had the money I would back both games. Since E:D was further along when I got bored enough to back an unfinished game, I did E:D instead of SC. I was glad when I first saw your post about the free week of it back last friday or whenever it was you posted it, because now I know 2 important things: A) the hanger runs poorly but the combat is a stable ~40 fps, B) There is a shitload of controls and I can't map all the critical ones to my HOTAS I don't even know if I would really want to play a game like this with a keyboard and mouse, but using KB/M + HOTAS at the same time is extremely cumbersome.
Unless you're a Motie, I can't see how it's even possible to really use KB/M+HOTAS simultaneously bar using your feet to control the throttle or something.
Dont bully elixwhitetail. On the Rust topic he is a troll too. You cant discuss with him. (User was banned for this post ("Terrible posts, spamming ratings" - postal))
Oh shit, he's figured me out, boys. He's also trying to drown me in boxes as if I care. :v: [sp]I love that the arrow points at his own lack of an avatar[/sp] Edit: based postal :bullshit:
how about we all shut up and go back to talking about how we're gonna party it up on my space bus when 2.0 goes live
So we're going to party it up on dai's space bus when 2.0 goes live...
