Well you see when we are running the carrack we all chipped in for, I am going to put my degree to work and use my arduino to set up and network of lights and alarms through my house. So if my roommate is sleeping(which he does a lot) and we are under attack, hit the button on the arduino, then bam. Alarms and red lights going off. I start yelling through the intercom "HEY GET YOUR ASS UP WE ARE UNDER ATTACK, MAN THE TURRETS!. SOMEONE GET INTO THE HORNET AND GET OUT THERE"

One fun thing for FPCorp to do when the PU is live enough to do cargo runs between system would be, load up a Starfarer full of turnips or whatever else the cheapest commodity is, and then have it be escorted by everyone in the org online at the time. Maybe have several haulers with the same thing. Big convoy, flying in formation, the whole thing, playing it ironically serious for kicks. Point is to make it look like a big valuable target to pirates. If raiders succeed in blowing up the 'farer, or it dumps cargo to distract them so the corp can retreat, it'll be like, enjoy the 6,000 tons of turnips, boys, I hope those destroyed Hornets and Cutlasses were worth it!
I like this idea, a lot. We have to do this.
I like this idea, a lot. We have to do this.
And we should have the really valuable cargo being carried by a dinky little stock aurora. SO dinky that it won't show up on radar due to zero emissions, just like a Prius.
No weapons on the Aurora, shield turned off, keeping EM and IR down, and have it hug close to the biggest, fattest ship in the fleet, where it's basically just outright blotted out by the big fat Starfarer or Reclaimer kicking off EM and IR like it was a rave. Literally hidden in plain sight.
I'll fly escort in my Khartu-al, or geared-to-the-tits 315p, or maybe my Herald for EWAR if that's a thing by then, if I don't have a hauler unlocked.
If nobody (but occasional outmatched NPCs) tried attacking us, we could decide that our convoy would deliver to Spider. I'm sure at least some people would be Citizens with reasonably goody-two-shoes faction standings with the UEE, so this would probably provoke some resistance. Plus the Starfarer could just suicide ram anything it could catch up to. We'd need to make sure whoever was piloting the 'farer was streaming, because we could then make the captain go down with the ship while everyone else punches escape pods (hopefully one or more of them are streaming/recording), so we get a view from inside the Starfarer as it kamikazes a Goon Javelin's bridge or something.
I'm liking this idea more and more with every passing moment. Hype levels...rising...
[sp]We could temporarily convert FPCorp into a faith group and claim to bring the teachings of Garry the Holy Turnip to heathen Spider the only way we know how. Kinetic diplomacy at its finest.[/sp]
help.
I'd volunteer to fly that aurora, assuming I don't have my Redeemer yet. That or crew a station on the Starfarer.
Start the teachings as Garry being the one true god. It becomes the Horus Heresy from the Warhammer40k Universe.
Better yet, load up an Idris with enough explosives to blow up a small moon and detonate it when the pirates begin boarding the cargo ships/Idris.

For the turnips thing.

I can already smell the burnt credits over here.
I've got a Redeemer gunship. Punch a hole for me, and I can put your boots on the ground inside.
Alternatively, I can do some good-ol' H&I in my Super Hornet.

Apperently theres a whole "command structure" thing going on with capships like the idris where permissions and custom workstation come in to play.
What you could do when you get boarded for example, is have all sorts of ways to destroy the ship. Panic button with no countdown, dead mans trigger, countdown with escape/no escape options, trapping them between bulkheads...
Man, if CIG delivers even a fraction of the gameplay they promised for capships, it's bound to be FUCKING complicated to learn. Not to mention the fact that permission based systems mean the captain of the ship is a literal "mein fuhrers way or the airlock, you may choose now."

Blow yourself up and die with honor or I'll toss you out the airlock myself.
I made a corp for my friends and I. We plan on, when the game is near completion, to set up desks for all of us. (me, my roommate, my one friend, my girlfriend, and my roommates girlfriend). We want to set it up like a battle station. Then just play this game and have no life.
Also, for when we are all hanging out in the same big multi-crew ship, make a surround sound setup in the room for immersion and stuff. Would be kick butt.
Even better than turnips-
Since you're in a different corp, here's what we do: you fly your nice big super ship in a high traffic area, then FPCorp comes and "attacks" you. Lasers fly everywhere and it looks spectacular. Send a few distress calls out too. Then some dumb white knights come to save the day and we all turn on them, with a few more of us hiding in the rocks. That's what they get for trying to help.
[editline]21st February 2015[/editline]
This'll sound sexist as hell but you could get you + roomate's girlfriends to go out asking for help with local voice chat. There's gotta be a few dumb nerds who couldn't resist helping two 'damsels in distress'. Hella bait
And this is the moment when I realize that LAN parties are going to now be "get the entire Javelin crew together for fleet ops" parties. As long as you had enough bandwidth plugged into the building, that could be fucking amazing.
"Guys, they're boarding, everyone not on the bridge or in a turret immediately put your helmets on! I'm going to space the corridors to blow them back out in 6, 5, 4..."
See, it sounds great when you say it like that, but it would more likely be:
"Hey, are you guys wearing your helmets?"
"No, why?"
"No reason :^)"
*spaced*
At least with my friends.
"Hey, are you guys wearing your helmets?"
"No, why?"
*spaced*
Oh, I'm sure that'd happen at least 3 times before a real tactical spacing happened during a boarding situation. Let's be honest with ourselves. I expect that one out of anyone in FPCorp if they're piloting.
[sp]honk[/sp]
Also, I flagged that guy's pedo-backstory wreckage post, nothing happened for hours and hours. Then I saw Toast, CIG legal and part-time volunteer chat mod, hanging out in chat and shooting the shit with backers. Didn't take long for the post to get deleted. :v:

Actually, reading that story, I didn't find a lot wrong with it. Underage women being trafficked as slaves is something that happens even today, and in the vast reaches of space where policing isn't easy, seems pretty plausible in SC's setting. I mean, I can't consider SC a game that shies away from grittiness. One of the endings of the 'choose your own adventure' for the exploration ship you were working on had your crew resorting to cannibalism.
Heavily implying 13-year-old rape is not really appropriate for the SC forums, plausible or true-to-life or not.
Go ahead and suggest that Rust should a) include child NPCs, and b) allow you to rape them, and see what postal thinks about that.
I actually said to Toast, "I think the post could stay with about four lines replaced with a 'but,' in the right place, but I'm in no position to dictate mod/CIG responses." It could've been salvaged, but now it's living in a place mere mortals can't access (I got the error trying to follow a notification link to it). The idea itself was not terrible, but talking about sex with underage girls in a AAA-tier game's official forums is dumb. :v:
But if I can't molest kids then how will I ever make the universe's most renown criminal: THE DIDDLER?
But if I can't molest kids then how will I ever make the universe's most renown criminal: THE DIDDLER?
You'd better have his real name as something like Barry Glitter or Phillip Saville.

Nah, anytime I need to give the Diddler a proper name it's Chris Delomort. Can you figure out why that is?
really thought the Orion was going to be a lot smaller, but the orion constellation is large so it fits.
kinda want a mini Orion and one in between to give variety.
just imagine this flying by

The Orion looks nice but i don't really like the rotating cargo modules. Is there a point to having those rotate?

Because that was totally what the guy in the thread was suggesting.
I mean, the story is of questionable quality, but I don't see how "Heavily implying child rape" in a backstory and "introducing child characters for players to rape" are even comparable, and you're implying they're the same thing.
The Orion looks nice but i don't really like the rotating cargo modules. Is there a point to having those rotate?
At first I thought centrifugal force seperating minerals from rocks but that concept sounds so gigantically stupid that it's probably just for looks.
The Orion looks nice but i don't really like the rotating cargo modules. Is there a point to having those rotate?
What drives me up against the wall is that while they do counter-rotate, there's two rotors going one way and only one rotor going the other way, so without going at double the rate or without always weighting twice as much thanks to dense cargo, the ship would still have to compensate for the torque during the spinup.
Not sure why the Orion's cargo containers rotate but whatever. Mining sounds really interesting though. I'm glad they've found a way to make it challenging (as opposed to EVEry other game...)
Nah, anytime I need to give the Diddler a proper name it's Chris Delomort. Can you figure out why that is?
If it's not an American paedophile, then I dunno.
The Orion looks nice but i don't really like the rotating cargo modules. Is there a point to having those rotate?
In pretty much every space game, rotating modules is a way to simulate gravity reasonably effectively. Why you'd need to keep ore under rotation-simulated gravity, though, especially in a game with regular sci-fi artificial gravity, is another matter.

It's probably healthier for you not to think about it. It only makes as much sense as any of the other ship designs anyway.
