a few weeks ago, it's the only way to play the game right now

It's already out. If you weren't forced to switch to the new launcher during 1.1.5/1.1.6, you will be the next time you try and play the game. If you don't have it, download it from the download page on RSI.
Excellent! Should be nice to look into the game again. I miss flying around in the Mustang.
Ah man, just got my new gaming desktop up and running and the launcher isn't very happy with my school network or something, just sits at "updating..." and complains about bad torrent links :frown:

Go into the settings and turn off P2P, then hit update, to disable the torrents. That should allow you to pull everything from the main Google Cloud CDN.

Tried that, launcher locks up and dies when I hit update although the change seems to go through as the next time I start it the settings say P2P disabled.
Still gets stuck on "updating" and complains about torrents tho, so maybe something behind the scenes is broken
Invalid torrent_data: <url> Will retry...
Exception during download_prepare: <url> [[Errno 10054] An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host]
that's apparently a python error, has something to do with the thing disagreeing with the network over whether it's timing out or not. Suggestions I've found say try it over a different connection, BUT you're kind of locked to your school network presumably
If the network just flat out blocks torrenting, then you're SOL unless someone puts up a manual mirror for you - the new launcher separates the install into multiple chunks and each chunk is its own torrent file which is why one chunk can be updated without downloading the others; you're just hopping into the updated seed for xyz data block.
Back with the old launcher, CIG released direct CDN download links for people who needed manual downloads, but I'm not sure that's an option now, and I could not find any easily-locateable mirrors from trustworthy sorts of places (didn't go looking in the sketchy ones).

You'll also get to explore Area 18 - the door in the back of your hangar will open and the elevator in there will take you to ArcCorp.
In the hangar, F6 will cycle your appearance through light/medium/heavy armor for outlaws and marines at random. Once you enter ArcCorp this cannot be changed until you return to the hangar.
F12 toggles chat. F2 toggles the AR overlay that shows you peoples' names and the few working displays in shops.
He has a point. It's like Japanese character tattoos. They have potential to seem dumb if you fluently understand them.
Relevant story- because bogans have this stupid fascination with getting kanji inked on their arms.
Met a guy at a party, he was showing off his tats. He said it was water (水). The symbol was actually ice (氷). I told him that. He was pretty mad.

Edit because this isn't worthy of a new post and a threadbump: Shithead published CIG's reply to his first letter in full, exactly as CIG predicted he would.
In his response your client thanked us for the refund and advised us of the address to which the refund check should be sent (See Exhibit 2). The refund check was mailed promptly (Exhibit 3).
Our regular accounting audits revealed that after 30 days that the check had not been cashed while it had not been returned as undeliverable either. We researched the address and had to find out that the address given by your client does not exist. We contacted your client again via email, only to find out that he indeed had provided us with a false address. He claimed that "streets had been renamed" (See Exhibit 4) but there is certainly no record of that. We have to assume that your client deliberately tried to prevent the refund from reaching him so that he would be able to continue his unfounded claim of being "aggrieved." Be that as it may, we have put a stop payment on the first check, and a second check has been sent today, this time via tracked courier shipment.
What a baby. Ortwin also completely shits on his claimed credentials as a game developer and the entire narrative he creates based on his supposed indie dev cred (as the most laughable game on Steam - say what you want about The RipoffZ/I:SS, at least people play it). I know we don't like to talk about the fucker but oh god this letter is amazing and had to be shared.
Also, shithead's response to the FOIA I mentioned earlier was to take to Twitter and flame Wulf with dozens of insults including shaming him for seeking help with his major clinical depression. That's lower than low.
yeah I read that letter earlier. I love that they flat out indicate Smark never even installed the game client after backing, and unsubscribed from the newsletter pretty early on, and that his inflammatory call out was riddled with passive aggressive advertising for his own game. I love trolls who don't realize how transparent they're being with their actions
in the meantime, first ship to ship docking maneuver: gay

Eyyyyy, you know how the launcher's dumb and uses torrents for everything? Well, guess what's in the new 2.4 update to the launcher?
HTTP Transfer Mode
This compatibility mode is available to users who are unable to use torrent at all to retrieve the game. It is slower than the torrent method for downloading, but downloads the same content. This may be useful for those on a restricted network, such as a university. This does not benifit from incremental differencing, so patching to a new version or verifying files will often result in a large re-download of the majority of the game.
To enable this mode, edit your PatcherState file to have: downloadMethod = HTTP
RSI thread with detailed notes on the updated launcher.
Not the most user-friendly settings, but for a completely rewritten launcher and niche needs that would confuse the average user who doesn't need to disable P2P/really screw around with P2P settings, for an alpha, not bad.

"minor mass to slow natural rotational drifting and having thrusters at the ends provides more stable control for maneuvers"™
Roberts the Verse happening right now. RSI subscriber chat is as spammy as typical Twitch chat, but instead of spamming 5 emotes, people are spamming multi-line questions.
Sandi says the new CCU (X to Y without dumbshit convoluted upgrade paths) system is probably ~3 weeks out. Tomorrow on RtV the Ship Shape segment is about the Cat, and Randy's going full blast white/greyboxing it.
"minor mass to slow natural rotational drifting and having thrusters at the ends provides more stable control for maneuvers"™
I'm waiting for the day Chris breaks down on stage and goes full BeerGod mode on the audience's questions. "BECAUSE IT FUCKING LOOKS COOL."
"minor mass to slow natural rotational drifting and having thrusters at the ends provides more stable control for maneuvers"™
I do not see thrusters at the end so it should be
"retract your wings in space so you can save fuel from the thousands of times you use your thrusters to roll and from the fly by wire stabilizing the ship"™
Saw the storefront area for the first time. Looks pretty cool, and performance is as abysmal as I remembered. A few people tried to glitch through the fence with no results so /shrug
Still looks pretty.
even on my old poster, wingman started to disappear

Any ETA on FPS yet?
Any ETA on FPS yet?
In the year, 2XXX.
Any ETA on FPS yet?
Big merge between fps branch and main is complete and they're working the kinks out as of last fps status post, and a company-wide playtest was to be happening this week, which is a good sign.
Last week's AtV hinted that 1.2.1 may in fact be the fps drop in addition to minor updates to ArcCorp. 1.2.1 planetside was PTU'd last week and they haven't said when they intend on going live with it which suggests either there were some big issues in PTU they want to fix, or they're holding it back for another PTU with the fps content.
No ETA, but unlike in the Spring they're credibly close to having it ready. PTU-just-before-live before the end of the month may in fact happen. The Generic Instance Manager won't really care if it spins up a Star Marine map instead of an ArcCorp or Broken Moon map, so much of the backend is ready. They're on polish and small details now.
If it's not ready for CirizenCon it's because they didn't want to repeat the AC1.0 drop where a patch goes out and then most of the company leaves the office and poor engineering has to triage a broken mode.

Bear in mind that Derek Smart isn't exactly an unbiased source of course, he wants people not to invest in it all. Now, if he had sources to back all this up? Maybe, but one spiteful developer who can't even manage his own game before he starts pointing fingers isn't exactly a neutral whistleblower.
Seriously, look at the guy, 'DON'T TALK TO ANYONE BUT ME ABOUT ANYTHING!!!'.
why are we still even talking about that guy

Derek Smart going for broke because no one will listen to him otherwise. Judging by the response elsewhere, his fearmongering is working.
I wish people would stop paying attention to this fucking lunatic.

If even one of these facts is untrue, couldn't the dude be sued?
[editline]24th September 2015[/editline]
Seems just like Derek Smart to claim to have exclusive insider info from a source that can't possibly be verified because even he can't track it.

Being sued is his entire goal. He wants to provoke CIG into suing him so he can appear to be the underdog indie dev hero being attacked and "censored" by the big bad RSI who are totally not going to do everything he failed to do.
He talks shit about Sandi constantly and basically doesn't give her any credit for orchestrating the crowdfunding campaign (as marketing, that's her job, and $89 million says she's done a good job), claims she's Chris's wife (and that this fact is being hidden maliciously -- based on zero proof) and that's why she's got the job, and that she's generally incompetent and a beneficiary of nepotism.
Meanwhile, while shitting on one of the more visible women in game development, he also claims to be pro-gamergate (for personal army uses) and just picked a fight with Randi Harper. :v:
It's going to be fun watching him get burned and driven to bankruptcy one day.
