Meanwhile, while shitting on one of the more visible women in game development, he also claims to be pro-gamergate (for personal army uses) and just picked a fight with Randi Harper. :v:
He claims to be neutral while trying to use GG people as a personal army, and Randi Harper is Randy Harper.
Also Sandi shows to be VP of Marketing, I'm curious who hold's the title of head of Marketing, unless I read her bio wrong.

He made explicit pro- statements at one point, but I expect DS's position to change as often as the wind so stay tuned for next week when he imagines it's somehow better to have gamerghazi on his side. And I don't remember the spelling of names of people literally beneath my contempt, so, close enough. :v:
Sandi is VP of Marketing but there's no P of Marketing. There is no one higher than her handling marketing in the project; she reports to the founders (primarily CR I imagine).

Right, So i stopped paying attention for a week or 2, suddenly i check the subreddit and there's all this chatter(besides dicksmart) about a baby PU and how its gonna have multicrew and shit but 2.0 is now delayed until after it comes out, and now i'm really fucking lost. TLDR anyone?
"ac 2.0" was the original plan for the integration of multicrew ships. this was simply arena commander, but with a lobby system so you could assign friends to your ship
as they worked on that though, they completed and added in the large world and generic instance tech, key parts of the eventual persistent universe, which allows quantum drive between planets
so now, what was ac 2.0 (what was shown at gamescom this year) has been rebranded to 'baby pu', which means you spawn in the space station and can free roam a single solar system using quantum drive. it's exactly what was shown at gamescom but it no longer makes sense it call it arena commander because features such as npcs, boarding, trade, and mining will be added to it as they are developed, acting as a testbed for the entire PU
so this is cool as fuck, but it does leave out the small niche that 'ac 2.0' would have provided - structured arena/tournament matches with balanced teams and rulesets (which the wild-west baby PU wont have). so at some stage this will be added down the line
so basically, what used to be known as ac 2.0 (what they showed at gamescom) is now 'baby pu', since it goes outside the scope of ac, and later on they will add a true 'ac 2.0' which simply expands the current arena commander to include a multicrew lobby
[editline]26th September 2015[/editline]
also you might notice this means that really nothing has changed except to clarify the difference between 'pu testbed' and 'ac with multicrew ships'
- The multicrew drop, with the large-world Stanton System map and Qdrive and etc., will not automatically bring AC2.0 with it at the same time; the initial multicrew environment will be an entirely separate mode from AC2.0 and is basically the baby PU. Mining will go in here instead of in AC.
I think there's actually a chance that they'll make their target release window of having the Gamescom demo environment/"baby PU" out by the end of November. They've already got multiple space stations set up for it, and the tech in the demo was mostly working, if obviously fudged in places to make the demo fly.

neat i guess,
To be real a science space ship that can seperate itself into two parts like the fucking Enterprise is really cool.

Might melt down my retaliator and something else for the Hope class in case any of our fellow Spacepunchers decides to blow his own foot off.

the bridge also looks super empty from the inside
the bridge also looks super empty from the inside
I figure they'll greeble the fuck out of it and add stuff like tables once they actually get to work on the interior layout.

I wish the bridge was higher up on the hull, though. Like a research vessel with a distinctive command deck. Streamlined, of course.

So the escapist posted an article today that said many of the same things Smart has been saying. They rushed the article out without including Chris' reply, so the article only included one side of the story at first (That the game is failing). Their supposed reason for not including his reply in the article is that he only responded to the person who sent the email, rather than sending it to two others as well. Chris obviously wasn't very happy about the content of the article or that his response was left out so he's posted it on the site, it's worth reading. It seems like he's finally had enough of DS and all the other negative things said recently. He refutes many of the allegations against him and the game that were said by the article.

He also says Sandi is his wife, which i didn't know.
He also says Sandi is his wife, which i didn't know.
I remember spork had claimed sandi was secretly his wife and it was all a big conspiracy to 'skew' reviews because she's VP of marketing. Marketing your own product isn't manually manipulating reviews you twits, a VP of Marketing that doesn't advertise their thing as the greatest thing since sliced bread is bad at marketing.
Being married to someone within the company isn't some fancy scheme to amplify income, it's two people earning money like they would separately except they go to the grocery store together
Before becoming a hot mess, this might get worse and more convoluted, the escapist article has some response.
Editor's Note: Updated with response from Chris Roberts throughout.
Please note that the RSI site indicates submission of the response prior to the stated deadline, however Roberts did not include either the writer or the EiC, both of which were included in the original email asking for comment, in his response, resulting in the delayed additions.
Also this will be once again other people who have blindly published smart's statements will use this to mudsling gamergate. At least the RSI article says he tries to use GG as a means to attack rsi while saying he's neutral.
Honestly if people can get information that's credible and hasn't been touched by Derek Smart which had made people biased, then the healthy criticism can be better visible.
So... i can't believe I've never asked this.
What is star citizen supposed to be? I have the 40 dollar pack but I don't get what the game will be when/if it's finished.

1: gifucknormous single player military space fighter story
2: utilizing tons of stuff made for the single player junk, it's creating a large "persistent universe", a big dynamic MMO similar in base concept to elite dangerous where you can go around trading or fighting or mining or whatever you want, except (if this makes sense) you play as the person, not just a ship model with a pilot model jammed in the front seat.
I've been part of an Indie development company before, and I know that tempers can often flare and things can often get out of hand. I've read both the article and Chris's response, and I have to wonder whether the allegations about unprofessional conduct by Sandi and Chris are true.

That response is the same as the link i posted a few posts above.
Their reasoning for it makes little sense. They should have waited, an arbitrary deadline for an article is not good, especially as it is an exclusive article so it's not like other sites were going to have something similar. It's as if they didn't really care about it enough to get both sides and just wanted it rushed out as fast as possible. By not including his side of anything the article just comes across as attacking the game and Chris.

There are two parts to it. There's the persistent universe (Star Citizen) and the singleplayer campaign (Squadron 42). You'll get both.
Squadron 42 is a full length singleplayer campaign that acts as pretty much an introduction to things. You're a pilot in the UEE fleet onboard a carrier and it's going to be along similar lines of other space games, with you going out and doing missions and the story progressing through them. Things will be a bit different to what will be available in the persistent universe, as you won't get access to same sort of ships and equipment outside of the campaign (at least, not easily).
The persistent universe is the main part of it really. It's basically an MMO where you'll be put in a huge, open, living universe with other players and can pretty much do whatever you like. Cargo hauling, mining, transport, exploration, research, boarding other player ship and stations, racing, EVA, combat (including against aliens) salvaging etc are all going to be possible. There are a variety of ships for different roles, It'll be mostly skill based so there isn't really a straight line of progression with ships, they're aimed at different roles and the role you want to carry out is completely up to you. Someone with a 'better' ship isn't necessarily going to win every fight. With the cheapest package the ship you'll start off with is an Aurora, which is just a basic non-specialized ship best for simple tasks like light cargo hauling. All ships will be available in-game once it's out, you don't need to actually buy any of them.
Immersion is one of the big features of the game, there won't be any loading screens (unless really really necessary) and they've said they want it to feel like as less of a video game as possible. So your character is not your ship, you have an actual character who can die permanently (at which point you create a new one but retain most of what you had), your ship can be lost permanently if you don't have insurance, cargo has to actually be made and delivered, multi-crew ships can't effectively be crewed by one person etc.
These show what the game will be like:

The last video is a good example of what the Persistent universe will be like, with a group of players finding a derelict Retaliator, repairing it and then fighting another group with it.
Chris roberts said this earlier today:
...allow you to seamlessly go from foot, to boarding a fully realized spaceship with your friends, take off, fly thousands or millions of km in space, exit your ship in EVA and explore derelict space stations or wrecks, engage in FPS combat, return to your ship, engage in space combat and return to your home base to share the tales of your adventures with your other friends. All with no leading screens, all at AAA first person fidelity that you can’t even get on a next gen console.

Freelancer 2.
A part of me still wishes this was Freelancer 2, because Star Citizen isn't Freelancer 2 anymore. It's grown into something that's more like what a supposed Star Wars Galaxies 2 would be instead.
At least I'm still getting a Freelancer 2 like game in Everspace.

The game was never going to be Freelancer 2, that isn't how they advertised things initially. There have been additions but the core of the game is the same as it's always been.
Found a way to download the game without torrents using the launcher:
Update Thread
All you have to do is:
Find the PatcherState file (it's in the same dir as the patcher.exe), open it with notepad and change the "downloadMethod" entry to "HTTP".
If you get a warning about incremental patching when you start the launcher then it worked and the launcher should start downloading the game.

Why does every other picture look like a different ship?
Why does every other picture look like a different ship?
Super modular design, I believe. Med ship, bio-domes, super collider etc etc and I assume you can pick and mix between uses?
There was a lot of confusion among backers as to whether or not Sandi and Chris were married or not, and I didn't really know what to believe. I'm glad that's on the table because it just solves the mystery, and ultimately shithead's allegations that Sandi has her job solely due to nepotism is just laughable. $89 million and counting says marketing is doing their job, and that's 100% Sandi's responsibility.
I accept that there are valid criticisms for Star Citizen, but I'm afraid that if someone is talking about Star Citizen and begins a sentence with "DS said..." I am inclined to immediately disbelieve and seek to discredit whatever comes next, because it's tainted beyond recovery. Whatever valid point that was in there is surely smothered in FUD and self-serving lies as well as straight-up delusions. It makes having conversations difficult because you're either on the same team and just circle-jerking, or DS is their go-to reference for points of criticism and it's doomed from the start.
I'm going to be so happy when the majority figure out he's not worth listening to.

Not the most user-friendly settings, but for a completely rewritten launcher and niche needs that would confuse the average user who doesn't need to disable P2P/really screw around with P2P settings, for an alpha, not bad.

I get the need for the supposed employees to remain anonymous, but you simply can't fire off accusations like that without proof
it's also fucked up how sandi is continuously targeted with this shit, according to this she's a cartoon villain
"Sandi is very jealous. She has to be the queen bee at the company. Whenever I was around her, I felt like I was in the presence of a cobra who, at that moment, might not have been inclined to strike but was completely willing to. You don't get on her bad side,"
I mean really
