Star Citizen Megathread - Fly FREE thru Dec 14th! Link in OP

Anybody been reading the Goon thread? Derek Smart has been posting accusations pointing to CiG having connections to the Swedish Mafia. It's mostly due to some of the Foundry 42 Higher Ups having links to a previous company that was money laundering but it's pretty funny to read.

Hold up, you're telling me that the Goons actually tolerate Derek smart? He'd be banned for threadshitting in an instant if he were here.

He has a 5 year old account and is regularly posting in their thread and mostly regarded quite well, they joke that it took Star Citizen for them to be united on something.

Well, I guess I was right. SA *is* full of idiots.
They're taking him on a ruse and feeding him bullshit for their own amusement. DS tangled with Goons (and basically lost) in 2004, he should know exactly what pit of vipers he's stepped into. DS'S DESKTOP COMMANDER!!
The SA thread is a mix of super-toxic anti-fanboyism bile that's even worse than the biggest dick-polishing fanboys in the RSI forums and shitposters ironically hating SC just to ruse everyone else into hating it. If you hear the Goons describe things, they all bought in really early, saw it was a scam, and flipped their Kickstarter pledges and LTI purchases (back when you could still buy LTI ships/packages right off the pledge store) for thousands, and then they've just been laughing and waiting for the project to collapse.
But if you take a Goon's word at face value, you have already made your first mistake. DS has been their sucker for several months.
So, the patches quietly slipped into the merch section of the store while nobody was looking, and they're going fast.
Well fuck, i had to buy a set... They sure look nice!
DS'S DESKTOP COMMANDER!!
Still can't wait for Derek Smart's Mobile Commander.
Goons might be the best pirate to go up against or the worst when PU comes out. Not in the friendly lazy town pirate, but the scum of the universe you love to hate.
a little bit of column A a little bit of column B

I wanted to be a bounty hunter, so I bet within the first month, the goons will have me on a KOS list.
It's a sign of the hubris of the empire and a drain on their finances; I'm not a historian so I can't pinpoint what bled Rome's bank account aside from the billion little and big costs to maintaining a sprawling empire.
Also, a technical artist not involved in Star Citizen (but current on the professional industry talks CIG/contractor techartists give) wrote a long and awesome post about Star Citizen's model detailing and how clever and efficient it is at providing very high detail for comparatively little overhead.

*smacks head* Why did I not think of this. Brilliant.
In honor of our newest Citizen (really, our thousands of new Citizens!) we would like to give something back to the entire community for all your incredible support. Starting today, we are eliminating ‘Alpha Access’ and the $5 module passes. Anyone who has pledged for a Star Citizen Package can now play today without worrying they won’t have access to some portion of the ‘Verse in the future. No Star Marine pass, no Alpha 2.0 pass… no additional payment needed for any module in the works, pre-release. Going forward, should we need to put out some sort of limited release it will be done through the PTU test server. All backers will have access to any live release, the moment it publishes.
But there needs to be an offset of costs for the server right?
Oh I'm beating whitetail to this video because I'm a whore for funny ratings

BTW, DS threatened a DCMA
But there needs to be an offset of costs for the server right?
that's the idea, and it makes sense in the context of the original x number of alpha slots they have, supposedly to constrain the spending on alpha servers and that
but it adds complexity to the already confusing pledging system and removing it is a goodwill gesture regarding funding concerns

Fuck yeah, now I don't need to buy a Star Marine pass!
Great for honest people who want to play, but it does filter some poor skilled people out. Even though the filter is you already pledged.
SA is halfway between here and gmf (aka it isn't that different, everyone posts like postal). I could easily have seen facepunch circle jerking the other way and having the same views as SA and /v/, in which case if DS posted here the thread would light up and it would be considered "epic".
That being said I don't really like the fact that he's posting over there. He's also promoting his own game there too. He also posted in Qt3 but I think it was more a "here's my blog bye" - which I can tolerate. He's got a blog and can keep his discussions there. If his blog wasn't popular or if he started out on another forum I could understand it.
Also this lends some merit to the idea of him being the one creating anti-Sc threads on /v/ the past week or so lol.
Does SA have the same amount of Mod control as Facepunch?
Just wondering as I think people on SA expect the price of admission to be a good enough barrier to shitposts...
Is there anything new in star citizen?
Last time I played - you could only walk around garage/hangar, do tutorial on flying and fly/fight against other players.

Soon™
Massive update to alpha coming with multiplayer missions, 200'000'000'000'000 km^3 space and quantum drive
[editline]14th October 2015[/editline]
Also what kinda flagdog is that? Just "Europe"

When is that update coming? Is that rumor or actual set date exists?
About flagdog: My work somehow works via proxy or some shit, I actually work in Ireland but our traffic comes out either from UK or fuck knows where, it seems to change every few hours.
Nor facebook nor google maps knows where I am and just reports location unknown.
If I type: "Where am I right now?" in google, it says London SE1.
I wish I knew how it works fully.

You can enter Area 18 through the elevator in the room behind your hangar.
And this is coming soon:

So basically flagdog gave up on tracking you "ah fuck it, he's from SOMEWHERE around there"
For the time it comes out, here is Chris' answer https://youtu.be/_5sRUYwgWGI?t=49m30s

Yeah I am not really sure how flagdogs work, guess it just gave up.

You can pretty much die now it's only downhill from here
When is that update coming? Is that rumor or actual set date exists?
You're not going to get a when until they have it so close to release they know they can make any deadline they promise. They're not there yet, so the official word from CR on-stage live at CitizenCon is "soon". Or,

Mark's been faving lots of SC tweets sent his way. From Reddit:

So Sandi has been taking pics of Goon posts, I wonder if she reads Facepunch.

A Germany guy wrote up a paper detailing why Star Citizen's flawed ship designs are the source of many of the flight related problems in Star Citizen and how to fix them.

I've been saying exactly all this since the very beginning. It's nice to see somebody put it all into easy to understand diagrams with visuals and everything.
At this point, the IFCS determines more how a ship flies than its thruster layout. In order to compensate for how wonky all the designs are, all the thrusters need to be crazy overpowered so that they become more flyable. IFCS limitations such as top speed, rotation rates, acceleration in rotations, it's all arbitrarily decided on by the IFCS now for the small fighters. When you've hit that point where you're "faking" the physics so much, what's the point in even simulating it to the extent that they do?
It makes me wonder if these days, the thought behind putting thrusters on a ship is to get it functional enough that the gameplay programmers can then use the IFCS to decide how they fly.

I've been saying exactly all this since the very beginning of how flawed the designs are in Star Citizen and how they significantly contribute to the flight model problems we face. It's nice to see somebody put it all into easy to understand diagrams with visuals and everything.

In order to compensate for how wonky all the designs are, all the thrusters need to be crazy overpowered so that they become more flyable. So CIG made a physics simulation so complex that they need legit space-ship engineers to design the starships so things will actually fly right?
